  • I’ve never really understood the ‘Marvel vs DC’ mentality (don’t most comic fans read them both?) but if I was absolutely forced to pick I would be on Team DC. Because I’m basic as heck and I love Batman. So sue me! And, of course, I love me a good DC figure. Like the new Katana art they had out! Kotobukiya had quite a few DC figures on display at Toy Fair, like the huge 1/6 scale Justice League (well, at least Batman/Superman/Flash/Wonder Woman/Green Lantern). And Bishoujos Harley Quinn, Wonder Girl, the Killing Joke statue (which is getting a re-release), the Villains line in all their evil glory, and some of the classic cartoony ArtFX+.

  • Kotobukiya surprisingly didn’t have that many Marvel announcements this year: just Ms Marvel and the Spider-Family ArtFX+. But, of course, there were still Marvel figures out and about! Mostly Bishoujo, of course, like Loki & Thor, Spider Gwen, and the amazing Squirrel Girl. Oh, and that ridiculous Deadpool and the less ridiculous but still cool Vision! Check ’em out after the jump.

  • Comic-based TV shows are so popular now that you really have to work hard to avoid them. Between Marvel and DC, it seems like at least 40% of new shows are based around comic franchises. A stark change from 10 years ago, no? So it’s no surprise that Kotobukiya has been hard at work on their DC TV show line! We’ve got Gotham (James Gordon & Oswald Cobblepot), The Flash, and Arrow on display. And one big surprise reveal: they had Supergirl there! The detail they get with 3D sculpting is so amazing I actually though her skirt was real fabric at first glance.

  • True story: when the Spider-Family art first came out, no one had yet identified all of the Spideys. I’m not super well versed in the Spider-verse and I had no idea who the mystery futuristic Spidey was, so I seriously just Googled “Spiderman mostly blue suit” and voila, it gave me the answer of Spider-Man 2099. Thanks Google! As you may have presumed from my lovely tale, 2099 ArtFX+ was indeed a surprise unveil at Toy Fair. I love his weird, futuristic look. You know the 2099 he comes from is probably not a great place, unless you’re super into cyberpunk. In which case it’s probably awesome, right? Actually, it looks pretty much the same as now. Disappointing. They also had regular Spider-Man, Spider Gwen, Miles Morales, and Agent Venom on display as well. I think this line is going to look so cool once it’s all together!

  • One of Kotobukiya’s teasers for the week’s events was the art for Bishoujo Katana. And indeed, here she is! Sadly we didn’t get the full sculpt like Ms Marvel, but it’s good enough for me. I was interested to see what Shunya would do with her, because not only is she fully clothed but also armored. I mean, we still get some collarbone action, but it’s a badass pose that fits the character. Anyone want to take bets on whether or not we’ll get an extra unmasked face?

  • Yesterday, Kotobukiya gave us a little teaser of the art for their new Ms Marvel. So I was expecting the art to show up at Toy Fair… as we all were. Well surprise, they had the fully painted sculpt on display! We were a little shocked to see here there, but also very excited. The sculpt looks so soft and cute. It’s nice to see that they went for a softer, less sexed-up look for her but still kept the Shunya elements. I hope that this is a trend–first Squirrel Girl, now this. It’s a nice change of pace! Her ribbons flowing in the wind are particularly appealing. What do you guys think?

  • Wonder Festival is less than a week away, and you know what that means–teaser time! I feel like every year these pop up sooner and sooner. It used to start on Wednesday and Thursday, now we get them at the beginning of the week! Well, the better to spread ’em out, I guess. First up is Kotobukiya with 4 teasers. Two are of figures we already knew about: the protagonist from Persona 5 and RyuuuZU from Clockwork Planet. Then we have two new ones! There’s an ArtFX+ of Arrow (from the show, not the comics) and a new Lancer from Fate/Grand Order. Which is basically Caster Extra in a swimsuit? I’ll be honest, I have not the faintest clue what is going on with Fate anymore. [UPDATE] We have some teaser artwork for the Ms Marvel Bishoujo! This will be on display at Toy Fair (which we will be covering in person!), but might also make a WF appearance. [UPDATE 2] We also have Bishoujo Katana’s teaser! Thanks Marissa~ [via Kotobukiya]

  • Kotobukiya has brought us quite a few Deadpool figures in the past, but this is definitely the Deadpool to end all Deadpools. As the ‘Super’ in the title might have clued you into! As we saw at their panel, this figure comes with an insane amount of extras. From more weaponry than anyone needs to a fluffy red afro, he’s got it all. But even without all the extras, this is an impressive piece. The pose is super dynamic and the scaffolding base gives a great diorama. I can just picture how amazing this will look on display!

  • There are a lot of villains in the DC-verse, but it seems like most of the popular ones are men. So it was no surprise that Kotobukiya’s Villains Forever line was all dudes. However, while she wasn’t officially announced, Harley WAS part of that initial art announcement (though in her New 52 style, which is this obviously not). So it was great to see her out as a surprise announcement at NYCC. They went for a very different style with her: the face is much more realistic and less comic-y. It’s beautifully detailed, especially given how tiny she is–the ArtFX+ line is 1/10 scale. And we got some good related news at the panel: they are considering doing the other Gotham City Sirens, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, to go along with her!

  • There seems to be a pattern with me and the Horror Bishoujo line. When we first find out about an announcement, I’m skeptical (“cute girl Chucky?” I say to myself. “No thanks.”). The art is unveiled and I’m basically won over because it’s always so good. Then we get the sculpt, and I’m totally in love. It happened with Edward Scissorhands, and it’s happening again with Chucky, who I think I actually like the most of the line so far! She’s just so adorable but also evil. The knife behind her back? Such a nice touch. Plus she comes with an alternate scarred head if you want a little more horror in your life. The sculpt here is just lovely, and we found out that Tiffany will be done by the same person so the two should fit together perfectly when they’re completed!
