Kotobukiya has brought us quite a few Deadpool figures in the past, but this is definitely the Deadpool to end all Deadpools. As the ‘Super’ in the title might have clued you into! As we saw at their panel, this figure comes with an insane amount of extras. From more weaponry than anyone needs to a fluffy red afro, he’s got it all.
But even without all the extras, this is an impressive piece. The pose is super dynamic and the scaffolding base gives a great diorama. I can just picture how amazing this will look on display!

There are a lot of villains in the DC-verse, but it seems like most of the popular ones are men. So it was no surprise that Kotobukiya’s Villains Forever line was all dudes. However, while she wasn’t officially announced, Harley WAS part of that initial art announcement (though in her New 52 style, which is this obviously not).
So it was great to see her out as a surprise announcement at NYCC. They went for a very different style with her: the face is much more realistic and less comic-y. It’s beautifully detailed, especially given how tiny she is–the ArtFX+ line is 1/10 scale. And we got some good related news at the panel: they are considering doing the other Gotham City Sirens, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, to go along with her!

There seems to be a pattern with me and the Horror Bishoujo line. When we first find out about an announcement, I’m skeptical (“cute girl Chucky?” I say to myself. “No thanks.”). The art is unveiled and I’m basically won over because it’s always so good. Then we get the sculpt, and I’m totally in love. It happened with Edward Scissorhands, and it’s happening again with Chucky, who I think I actually like the most of the line so far!
She’s just so adorable but also evil. The knife behind her back? Such a nice touch. Plus she comes with an alternate scarred head if you want a little more horror in your life. The sculpt here is just lovely, and we found out that Tiffany will be done by the same person so the two should fit together perfectly when they’re completed!

I was never really a big Spider-Man fan, or Spider-verse fan even. It just wasn’t a comic world that interested me. That changed pretty drastically when they announced Ultimate Spider-Man, aka my bae Miles Morales. Of course it was nice to see more diversity in the comics world, but he’s near and dear to my heart because of how much my brother identifies with and loves this character. He has a lot of things in common with Miles (boarding school, a love of Legos, feeling very different) so it was amazing to have a character he could connect to that strongly.
Of course I’ve been anticipating this figure like crazy since it was first announced. A little baby Miles? Yes please! And as we found out at their panel, his pre-orders have been selling incredibly well (so maybe more Miles merch in the future?!). They also had the ArtFX+ Spider Gwen on display (which I must admit I like a bit more than the Bishoujo). Check them both out below!

There are always new things happening in the Bishoujo line, but by far my favorite recent one was the announcement that Squirrel Girl was not, in fact, just an April Fool’s joke. And then the reveal of her sculpt, which is just painfully adorable (and right now has one of the best Shunya Yamashita faces Kotobukiya has ever done).
We got to take a close look at her at New York Comic Con. The sculpt is so crisp: I especially like her spiky hair, acorn earrings, and (surprise) her little squirrel pal! Because I think 90% of figures would be improved by having an animal companion.

Given the huge number of DC movies on the horizon, I’m sure by next NYCC Kotobukiya’s booth will be flooded with them (though let’s be honest, I’m only hoping for Aquaman & Mera). But this year there was only one: the hugely impressive Batman vs Superman duo. I sure do hate that stumpy batsuit but it looks great on this scale!
We also had Bishoujos. Lots of Bishoujos. Both Harleys, Black Canary, Wonder Girl. We had the villains ArtFX+ (including their new star Harley Quinn), the Super Powers line, and their larger scale ArtFX statues. Check them all out below!

The star of Kotobukiya’s Marvel display at NYCC was, of course, Squirrel Girl. But there was much more, including quite a few Bishoujos: Lady Deadpool, Spider Gwen, and Loki & Thor were all out and about. In fact, they had two Spider Gwens: Bishoujo and the new ArtFX+. For the first time ever, I think I might actually like the ArtFX+ better.
They had tons of statues out, like the Civil War battle diorama of Captain America and Iron Man (which would look amazing displayed with Hulkbuster). Check them all out in the gallery!

We got some very exciting DC-related announcements at Kotobukiya’s panel (Bishoujo Katana and the TV show teasers). But given how massive their DC lines are, it’s no surprise that there was a ton more! Like the affordable retro Super Powers figures, their villains ArtFX+ line (including the brand-new Harley Quinn–and a new sculpt for Black Manta), and their ArtFX statues.
We also got a little more info about the Ikemen line. It was a pretty big deal when announced, and they discussed how happy fan response has been along with the potential of the line. If the Bat-Boys sell well enough, they will definitely be continuing with other characters!

We’ve already seen Kotobukiya’s big Marvel-related announcement from their panel (Ms. Marvel Bishoujo!), but they had a ton more news at the event. Including an update on their Spiderverse ArtFX+ line: Agent Venom is sculpted! This is not the final sculpt, as his guns and other details will be changed before the paint, but it’s nice to see some progress. We also have the order the rest will come out (Spider-Man 2099, Carnage, and finally Venom) plus this interesting tidbit: they called this the “first wave” of Spiderverse figures. Which means we should get another set! Who would you like to see in it?
We also had a lot of ArtFX updates, like the limited edition black Deadpool and the crazy amount of accessories that will come with their Super Deadpool. There’s an afro, guys. Amazing.

Kotobukiya has done a lot of comic toys (that’s something of an understatement, huh?), but so far we’ve been basically restricted to actual comic and movie appearances. With the new wave of comic-based tv shows it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing more and more of them in the figure world, but I definitely didn’t expect one this big from Koto.
They’ve announced license acquisition for Gotham, Green Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Phew, all 4 at once! No word on what exactly we’ll be getting. ArtFX? ArtFX+? Statues? Bishoujos?! It’s a mystery, but one I’m excited to uncover!
