I have been drooling over this release since we first got the teaser images a few weeks back. Maybe this makes me basic as hell, but Lelouch is my favorite male anime character, and the idea of owning such a huge figure of him? Pure excitement. I have yet to make a Smart Doll purchase (and in fact I haven’t ordered a doll in several years) but this might just be my first.
Unlike Volks’ boy dolls, I think Danny Choo has made his distinctly male looking. Sure, there’s still the pretty boy anime vibe, but I think the face sculpt is far more masculine than what we’ve seen in the DD world. Given that we already have Spike and Lulu from the line, I wonder what boys are next? Probably Suzaku, I’d guess.

Male anime-style dolls used to be a thing of dreams and only dreams, but recently they’ve become a very firm reality. First we got Len from Volks, and now it’s time for Kirito from Sword Art Online! I mean, he looks pretty damn feminine here, but that’s to be expected with dolls right? In any case, you now have multiple choices for some DD boyfriends for your ladies.
Many years ago we got an Asuna Dollfie, and of course she’ll be getting a re-release… of sorts. This new ‘Titania’ version will be on sale with Kirito, and while I adore her outfit & ears the face has still not won me over. There’s no concrete info on when these will go for sale, as the blog just says early summer, but I have a strong suspicion these will be lottery and not pre-order.

Santa Alter, just put Excalibur under the tree, for me…. I’ve been an awful good girl~
So, Volks really loves Saber from Fate/Stay Night. We’ve gotten a ton of versions of her, including regular, Lily, Alter, and Extra. Now it’s time for one more! In a very strange choice (no Mordred?) they’ve gone with Santa Saber aka Rider. A real character from Fate/Grand Order. What is this franchise turning into?!
In any case, this doll is basically Saber Alter (who, remember, was a pre-order doll so there are lots of her on the market!) in Christmas-themed clothing. Not their most exciting release, no? To be honest this seems like a shameless money grab: why not just release the outfit? Why not give us OG Rider, a Dollfie fans have been clamoring for? Or Caster/Caster Extra? The answer is money.

Two years ago, Volks added Sheryl and Ranka to the Dollfie Dream line. They were part of the pre-order project, so for many collectors they were finally accessible in the cutthroat world of actually owning a character DD. Now it seems they’re continuing the Macross line with Freyja Wion!
I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the wig or outfit, but I love her face and eyes! So cute. Since we have a pre-order set going already she’s certainly not going to be one of those, and will likely be a lottery doll. Unless they’re pulling a Snow Miku and doing two pre-orders back to back!

Volks has recently hopped on the male Dollfie train, though let’s be honest: their first offering looked pretty much identical to their girl dolls. I’ve been dreaming of a true anime-style male doll for years and it seems like my dreams might finally be coming true–but not because of Volks. Danny Choo’s beautiful SmartDoll lineup will be adding a few boys to the mix, and he’s got some exciting licenses in the lineup.
First off we have Cowboy Bebop‘s Spike Spiegel, who has yet to be revealed… but based on the blurry photo, he is 100% complete! Who would have ever thought we’d have a Spike doll? Times are changing. Then there’s Lelouch from Code Geass, who I am insanely excited for since he’s my favorite male anime character (well, him and the cat teacher from Princess Tutu, but we all know he’s not getting a doll). There are also some very heavy hints that Suzaku might be joining him too…

It’s been a while since we had a pre-order Dollfie! We had Snow Miku in January of last year, but she actually just shipped out and I got mine only 2 weeks ago. Volks is so slow, but worth it. Well, they’ve just announced the newest pre-order project and it’s IDOLM@STER! And 3 dolls instead of 2.
First up are Iori and Yayoi, who will be on the new Dollfie Dream Pretty bodies which are between a DDS and MDD. Yayoi is usually one of my least-favorite girls but I am so smitten with her face! Each of them retail for ¥60,000. Then we have Anastasia from Cinderella Girls, who will be on a Dollfie Dream Sister body. She has a face shape I usually love, and while I do like her I think the pronounced lashes are a little odd–but they look so lovely in some shots! Hard to tell what she’ll look like with a different wig and outift, though Volks always gives us a few pictures like that as orders open. Anastasia comes in at a bit more at ¥68,000. And of course, all 3 of them have alternate outfits!
Orders open up on October 8th and run until December 4th, and they won’t be out until fall of 2017 (so expect about a year’s wait). Sure, it’s a long time, but with something this pricey it’s great to have so much time to save up.

About 6 months ago, we found out that Volks would be taking on a Vocaloid who wasn’t Miku Hatsune. In fact, two of them–the twins Rin & Len. Which is surprising because 1) I think we assumed they’d do Luka next and 2) Len would be their first male Dollfie Dream, which is kind of a big deal and something customers have been clamoring for for years. Unsurprisingly, their kind-of-rival comany Danny Choo is also producing male dolls. Can’t help but wonder if that helped them make this decision!
Anyway, we’re finally getting the reveal for these two. Most surprisingly, they’re not going to be pre-order style releases but regular lottery dolls at Home Town Dolpa Nagoya 6 with an online lottery on August 13th. For very selfish reasons I’m happy about this (I want different pre-order dolls since these two aren’t my style at all) but I’m also surprised at the choice. Rin retails for ¥64,814 and Len is a little more expensive at ¥69,44. Do you plan on entering for either of them?

It used to be that Volks would do one, maybe two alternate outfits for their Dollfies and that was it. And they were almost always event-limited and hard to get. But times are a changing! Both Sheryl & Ranka and Miku Hatsune have had quite a few extra outfits released well after they came out. I just wish this trend had started with KOS-MOS…
Anyway, the new Miku outfit that Volks is putting out this time is the Ribbon Girl outfit, which I am totally smitten with. I mean, the headphones alone are enough to sway me, but add in the hoddie and the amazing wig? Oh my. Sadly, it’s insanely expensive–¥21,800. Ouch! And will probably be event limited, not an online pre-order. But a girl can dream, right?

Dollfie Dream Snow Miku Hatsune went up for order ages ago, and she still isn’t out. But that’s not stopping Volks for milking the line for all it’s worth! We know that there are roughly twenty million variations of Snow Miku, so it’s no surprise that they are giving us outfit variations. Starting with the very first one, Snow Miku 2012!
This is one of the less original Snow Miku redesigns so I’m not overly excited about the outfit for her. I mean, I’ll probably buy it, but that’s because I have Snow Miku DD on order and I want more clothing for her. I’d greatly prefer one of the cooler variations like 2014 or 2013 (never gonna happen, but I can dream!). Orders will open for this set on February 6th, but that’s not all! They have some leftover Dollfie Dream Mikus they will be selling–though I expect it will be really hard to get one, given past sales of extra Dollfies.

You know what we need right before MegaHobby? Another figure event! What is up with how many we’ve had this fall? This time it’s one dedicated only to IDOLM@STER, and there were a LOT of figures at it. Wave, surprisingly, is making non-Beach Queens figures of some of the Cinderella Girls: sculpts for Kaede Takagaki and Miku Maekawa appeared, along with announcements for Rika Jougasaki, Miria Akagi, and Kirari Moroboshi. We’re also getting another Dollfie Dream from Volks: Rin Shibuya! Kotobukiya joined the party with the sculpt for Kaede Takagaki and an announcement for Nana Abe.
Good Smile Company & Co had, of course, the most updates. Phat! Company had many of their girls, along with a brand new sculpt of Rin Shibuya. The Love Laika version of Anastasia, which just went up for order, was painted, along with the matching Minami Nitta. Good Smile’s Crystal Night Party figure of Uzuki Shimamura is sculpted, and we have figmas of Rika and Mika Jougasaki based on their anime appearance.
Then we have Alter! First, three announcements from their Alpha x Omega collaboration: Rin Shibuya, Karen Houjou, and Nao Kamiya. They also showed off the amazing sculpts for Riina Tada and Miku Maekawa. Phew, that’s a lot of idols!
