I’m not really sure why someone decided to make Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica into, well, seals, but I sure am glad they did. I mean, they just reek of cuteness overload. The little chubby cheeks, the squishy seal bodies, the FACES. Dear lord, just looking at them for too long will make your teeth rot. So if someone could jut, um, get me a few of these that would be great.

Of the massive amount of Nendoroids shown off at Winter Wonder Festival, clearly one of the most anticipated among them was Hitagi Senjougahara from Bakemonogatari. It’s rather surprising that Good Smile Company waited so long to make a full-sized version of her, since there’s been a Petit for years! But in any case they’ve been teasing us with magazine scans for a long time now, and it finally seems like they’ve finished her up and are ready for orders… though sadly the news is not good on that front.

Hitagi is an exclusive, and will be bundled with the Premium Box Set which also includes some posters and a fan for ¥5,700 and will be released in October. It also seems like she does not come with that much: from what we are seeing she only has one face, two sets of hair and some stationary. We better get at least one more face, Good Smile!

Misaka Mikoto from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun seems to be the reigning champ of swimsuit figures. This is odd for so many reasons: first off, there’s nothing particularly special about her character design, and let’s face it: usually characters who get a lot of swimsuit figures are busty (Kanu, Tamaki, etc) or have other special attributes like craazy colored hair or wild personalities. Second, the franchise’s popularity has pretty much peaked: it doesn’t have the lasting longevity of something like Haruhi, and we don’t even get many figures of her!

But for some reason, companies keep putting out figures of Misaka in beach ware: two companies in particular, Wave and Kotobukiya, and usually as Dengeki exclusives. Last time it was for Dengeki’s 20th anniversary, and this figure too will be a Dengeki exclusive. It’s actually quite nice, with two faces and a cast-offable shirt. But who is the manufacturer? It’s a mystery! My money is on Koto, because the sculpt seems a bit too intricate for Wave, but only time will tell.

In order to keep their Snow Miku Nendoroid designs fresh, Good Smile opens up the yearly decision to the public: this year’s theme was magical girls! I was pretty excited to see what we’d get, but given that last year not a single one of my favorite designs made the final cut I didn’t have my hopes up too high. Even if the final result was pretty cute, she was not what I envisioned. Thankfully, I couldn’t have been more wrong!

I mean, LOOK AT HOW CUTE SHE IS! A magical witch! I am so smitten with this whole look: everything from the colors to the style to the outfit is totally perfect, and I am dying to see her in full Nendoroid form. Also as a figure please, Good Smile Company. Her critter companion, which you can check out in the gallery, is of course too cute for words. For once I am really looking forward to a Snow Miku release!

In a cruel attempt to torment their fans with Nendoroids they can (probably) never have (unless they are filthy rich), Good Smile has recently started doing lottery-style additions to their Nendoroid line. Of course they’ve chosen the ridiculously popular Vocaloid family for this little experiment: so far we’ve had FamilyMart Miku and Santa Miku. They must have been a success, because now we are getting four more. Yes, four! And they’re not all Miku.

This summer we’ll be getting a painfully cute swimwear version of Miku astride a blowup dolphin, along with Miku, Rin and Len in preppy tennis-like ensembles. Sigh. These are SO cute, and they’d obviously make a lot of money if these were regular releases. I just don’t understand the mentality behind lottery-style releases of Nendoroids, it makes it so hard for us collectors! There will also be some GraPhigs in the mix, and doubtlessly a lot of other goodies as well. My wallet is weeping.

By now, we all know that Chima Group is the master of cute. After all, their past figures include things like a dinosaur in rain boots, a brontosaurus in a scarf, and a bird wearing a bowler hat and a banana peel. Their sense of whimsy knows no bounds! And they are Japanese, so of course the cuteness factor is off the charts. But I think with this new release, named Kanicoro, they have actually managed to top themselves.

How is that possible, you ask? Well, it’s a crab. A TEMPURA CRAB. WITH GOOGLY EYES. I CAN’T EVEN. Look at its face! The smile! The eye stalks! His little crab claws! I need an army of these guys asap. Thankfully even though Chima Group is a kaiju company, their popularity in the US means that several stores will stock them in the US, so keep an eye on your favorite vinyl shop for these cuties in the coming weeks!

Well this is an unexpected announcement! Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy Play-Arts Kai usually focus on the later games in the series, VII and after for the most part. Actually, pretty much exclusively! But as you can see, they’re going back to the very beginning and bringing us the Warrior Of Light from the very first entry in the franchise. Also is it just me or does he look a little bit like EVA Unit-01 in the header shot?

As terribly dull as I find that game, it’s nice to see them delving back into Final Fantasy’s history–there’s a lot of great character design for them to work with! Though of course you have to wonder if it’s just a one-time thing or if they really will be doing more older characters? Who would you like to see join the Play-Arts Kai line?

The Vocaloid family seems to get a lot of love from Good Smile Company & co: except for the fringe ones like IA and, of course, the boys: though they do get Nendoroids (even Gakupo!), we don’t see much in the way of scaled merchandise or anything else for that matter. So it’s no surprise that fans went pretty ballistic when a figma of Kaito was shown off at Winter Wonder Festival! While I’m not a huge Kaito fan I can appreciate everyone else’s enthusiasm, and we’re finally getting a preview of this handsome devil.

While I think his limbs are a bit too gangly, he does look nice and he comes with a decent amount of extras. He comes with three faces: standard, a really cute happy face, and a singing face. I don’t really like the singing one, since he kind of looks… pissed off. And of course he has his signature ice cream! Sadly, the parasol in the shots is NOT his, but Snow Miku’s. Why do you taunt us like this, Mikatan?! He’ll be up for order tonight.

As you probably know, we here at Plastikitty are huge fans of Paul Shih’s work-it’s adorable, affordable, and handpainted! What more could you ask for in a resin collectible? He’s got two new releases lined up for this Friday, May 17th–both were available at Chromacon, New Zealand’s big comic event, but thankfully there are some leftovers for us non-kiwis.

First up is a sakura-themed Sushi Kaiju. We have one in the original colorway and we love him! There are only ten and these pink cuties retail for $60 a pop. Next up is a gorgeous aqua colorway of Bevil (look at that blue butt!), whose original splendid green release I sadly missed out on. But we did snag the Sunset one at NYCC! This is also a release of 10 and will be $50 each (plus shipping). They’ll go up at 1PM PST on the 17th in his online shop, so don’t be late!

So far, DC’s Bombshell line, which is based on classic pinup art, has been nothing but a smashing success. The first two, Supergirl and Wonder Woman, were absolutely spectacular. Seriously, I was pawing at the glass when we first saw them. They couldn’t be released fast enough! Granted, I was a bit less enthusiastic about Poison Ivy–something about her didn’t seem quite as magical, but she still had a ton of fans, and rightfully so! Of course I was over the moon with excitement when we found out that Harley Quinn would be next.

We were told there would be a bomb theme, but it seems that got dropped somewhere along the way. In my mind I had this fantastic image of Harley actually riding a bomb, like the pinup girls on the side of WWII planes. Imagine that! So for me, the final product doesn’t quite live up to my expectations. She’s nice, but not as nice as Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy: there’s a spark with the other 3 that seems to be missing here, which is sad because I adore Harley. Hopefully she looks nicer when we get to check her out in person at SDCC!
