Good Smile Company Brings a 1/8 Kamui Kobayashi Instead of Something People Want

Sometimes figure-making decisions baffle me. Like, you know, giant 1/2.5 scale polystone statues of the Queen’s Blade cast. Or when Good Smile Company becomes marketing whores and makes figures of mildly famous people that no one wants. I mean really, this guy already has a Nendo and a figma, which is better than some popular characters, and now GSC is making a scaled figure of him too? Why? Did anyone actually ASK for this? Let me tell you the answer: no. Ultra-popular characters don’t even get scaled figures from GSC, but I guess all it really takes is to get them as a sponsor. I mean, their OWN racing mascot (Racing Miku) didn’t even get a scaled figure of her last incarnation despite people repeatedly asking for one.

Forgive my bitterness, but I can’t help but be resentful that a sketchy-looking figure of a random racecar driver gets made when stunning figures like Kyrie or GSC’s Macross Frontier set get shoved aside and eventually forgotten about. On the more positive side, the sculpting on Kobayashi does look great… until you get to his face, which looks eerily like a wax model. He’s going up for order tomorrow night, so if you need a 1/8 scale representation of a guy who risks his life to drive fast cars for money, get your wallets ready.
