Good Smile Company’s 1/8 Millhiore Lets Me Down

Good Smile Company’s 1/8 Millhiore F. Biscotti from the anime Dog Days was one of the figures on my Summer Wonder Festival Wishlist. She looked amazing as a raw sculpt, and when we saw some event pictures of her painted I couldn’t wait to order her. Mikatan previewed her last night, and while I am usually more pumped for a figure’s release after her shots something feels… missing with Millhiore.

The reason for this is most likely because she wasn’t hand-sculpted. I really, really dislike 3D sculpting unless it’s on things like Nendoroids or accessories. It adds an odd sense of stiffness to the figure, and Millhiore doesn’t look nearly as natural and breezy as I’d like. The skirt is stiff, her legs are way too skinny and look awkward, and her eyes look like she’s off to the crazy-farm. I think the pupils aren’t centered right, which ends up looking really wonky. It also bothers me that the pose is recycled from their 1/8 Makise which just recently went up for order.

Don’t get me wrong, Millhiore is still a pretty figure. The colors are spectacular and I can’t resist animal girls with pink hair. She just isn’t quite what I wanted, and (surprisingly) I definitely prefer Griffon’s Millhiore. The only thing I like more about GSC’s version is the colors, as this one is a vibrant pink whereas the Griffon one is more peachy. I’ll probably end up getting them both, but I’ve wound up hoping that Alter picks up the license so I can get the perfect Millhiore.
