Griffon is really on a roll this week–a few days ago both Hina Kagiyama and POP Reimu were painted, and now their new 1/8 scale Youmu Konpaku, who was just announced a few weeks ago, is done too! They’re down to only 3 figures that are now in prototype stage for this line (Medicine Melancholy, Lorelei Mystia, and the new Patchouli), which means that we must be getting some new announcements very soon.
Anyway, back to the figure at hand! While I love Touhou, some of the characters have just never appealed to me, and I must admit that Youmu was one of them. I felt like her figures were lacking and her design wasn’t really wowing me. However, that all changed when I saw this awesomely dynamic figure of her, which in my opinion really outdoes their 1/7 scale version of her. I love the base, the clear PVC, the flower on her sword–it’s all very lovely but also a little creepy! She’s set for a March release, but this is Griffon we are talking about so expect delays.

The figure looks best when Youmu’s mostly turned away from you, which is unfortunate. Little finer sculpt on the face could’ve helped, or at least soften the eyes to fit the figure. Honestly, the header image looks like it’s had some selective blur/sharpen routine applied to it but I know, I own a Reisen, this is a thing that sometimes happens with Griffon’s figures.
