[UPDATE] Martin Hsu’s Dragon Boy is Fiercely Adorable

When I first heard the name Dragon Boy, my mind immediately wandered to a horror-land of Kid Dragon ripoffs, figures with even less sculpting and detail than the original. This is not to knock the Kid Dragon (though I will make fun of the big one all day long), it just seems like so much of vinyl is rehashed lately, and each rehashing leads to more degradations in creativity.

So imagine my pleasant surprise when I saw the art for Dragon Boy–a concept full of personality and spunk. The prototype seems to be well-detailed as well, at least what we can see of it, with far more sculpting than what you usually see in vinyl. This figure is set to be released at SDCC 2012, and it’s so full of potential that I am already excited!

[UPDATE] We have some new photos of the prototype, which is now 95% complete! It will first be shown off in full at Martin Hsu’s solo show titled “Dragon Boy” at Dragatomi on January 14th. Very fitting, as this is the year of the dragon after all!
