In another case of “this thing isn’t even out yet and companies are already making figures from it” comes Accel World, a light novel/manga about… girls in butterfly suits and robots. Actually, Accel World has been a light novel for a while now, and recently got a manga adaptation, but the big news is that an anime is coming out for it and that’s why Max Factory picked up the license. I think it’s a bit weird that companies now do this, and it’s usually with anime that isn’t that great or successful, like Fractale or Dog Days. The culprits are usually part of the GSC family, and it seems like they tend to “sponsor” shows by announcing figures before they begin. The only one it’s been really successful with so far is Boku wa Tomodachi, but maybe Accel World will be a big hit too?
Anyway, three (yes THREE) figmas have been announced: robots Silver Crow and Black Lotus, and human/butterfly girl Kuroyukihime. Kuro has a plain school uniform and a pretty rockin’ butterfly suit (called Scarlet Rain), so let’s hope they go with the latter! It seems kind of weird that they announced so many, but the robot (or “duel avatar”) design seems really cool so hopefully these turn out well!
[UPDATE] Kuroyukihime is also getting a Nendoroid, and it’s unclear whether the Scarlet Rain figma is of her robot or her butterfly form. So that’s FOUR figures for a show that’s not going to be out until April… kind of jumping the gun here, Good Smile Company! We should be getting some more information on these soon, hopefully with at least some concept art. (Thanks to Kikirowr for the heads up)
