No One Wants It, But We’re Getting A Scaled Mirai Anyway

There are quite a few things in the figure world that I hate, but I try to keep rants to a minimum on the site. Today, however, I am going to make an exception, as I have extra hate reserved for Danny Choo’s boring mascot Mirai Suenaga. You know, that girl he had drawn for his site with the most boring design in the history of anime girls who is popular because… um, I’m honestly not really sure. Certainly it’s not the design or the convoluted backstory, I think Mirai is simply popular by virtue of being Danny Choo’s mascot. He’s an otaku god to many people, so I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that Mirai is getting so much attention. I do, however, wish that she looked even a tiny bit original.

So we’ve known for a while that we’d be getting Nendoroids of all 3 of his “mascots” since apparently that’s something people need. And now, Max Factory is going to be making a scaled figure of her as well. I find this news rather depressing as it means one of my favorite companies is going to be wasting its resources on this…. but then again, Mirai’s wormed her way into everything from anime no one cares about to the Soniko game (giving it a delay of several months). This is an inevitable occurrence, but certainly not one that I am pleased with.

[UPDATE] We now have images of the 3 Nendo faces Mirai will come with! I have to say, two of them are SO cute. The smiling one is reminiscent of Support Miku. If they come out as cute as they look here… I might bite the bullet and go for this (or at least enter a split!). She’s slated for a Winter 2012 release. [via mfc]
