Plastikitty Review: Bigshot Toyworks’ Maddie

MaddieHeader

There are many things in life I am passionate about: books, cats, tea, perfume, apocalypses, writing, Lovecraft. It’s rare any of these things come together with the toy world (…except for cats, obviously), so you can imagine my glee when Tenacious Toys showed off the concept for Maddie, a Cthulhu version of everyone’s favorite cartoon horses designed by Klim of Bigshot Toyworks. So not only is this Lovecraft, it combines my childhood obsession of ponies as well. And I have a cat named Maddy. I mean, obviously this figure was meant just for me. But, you know, you can have one too.

Maddie

This box is so dementedly cute. The little “cutie marks” for the other Horsies of the ‘Pocalypse is just the best touch. Speaking of them, all 4 still have an open Kickstarter! So you can get your own Calamity (Pestilence), Raven (Famine), Clash (War) and Ghost (Death). Do you know how excited I am that they went with Pestilence instead of Conquest? Conquest is lame. Pestilence is where it is AT.

Maddie

There’s even a little warning when you open the box! Because to look at Maddiethulhu is to look at the heart of madness.

Maddie

Maddie requires some gentle assembly. And I do mean gentle. Her wings are packaged separately, so you have to pop them in. Since it’s roughly around freezing outside, you might need to warm yours up with a hairdryer so they slide in better. However, I don’t have a hairdryer (I know right) so I had to do some gentle wiggling and fiddling until they clicked into place. Do NOT try to force them in, because they’re relatively fragile!

Maddie

Let’s take a look at some details! And by that I mean tentacles, of course. Maddie has a few, but the most prominent ones are on her tail which is a lovely blurple-to-magenta gradient with bright coral suckers. I love Maddie’s colors so much: basically it’s “shades of warm purple, the figure.”

Maddie

Even the tentacles on her tenta-beard are gradient! It’s a really nice hidden touch.

Maddie

Both the wings and head are on ball joints, meaning you can pose them. General Cthulhu, looking over her army!

~With strange aeons even cute may die~

Maddie

There’s a second Maddie colorway too! This one is, obviously, glow in the dark. I love the material choice for this: it’s a nice milky GID plastic instead of the usual green tint they have. And the super-glossy finish makes her look almost slimy, which is 100% appropriate.

Maddie

Unlike the original Maddie who has crazy-eyes, this one’s squid eyes are milky with a turquoise pupil. For some reason they look more angry here, like she’s glaring at us! We’ve disappointed the destroyer of world, uh-oh.

Maddie

The two of them together make an awesomely terrifying duo.

Maddie

If you like ponies and unimaginably old creatures of madness, this is the toy for you! It’s got everything: tentacles, ponies, PURPLE. You can sit around and quote Lovecraft at Maddie all day long! Not, like, that that’s a thing I would ever do. Haha no way, that’s for crazy people. I just did it while I was taking the pictures, because that’s normal.

If you want your own Little Maddie you can snag one right here in either the original colorway or an absolutely stunning clear Spirit World Version!
