There are certain things we can expect to appear at Wonder Festival tomorrow: a figma and/or scaled figure of Racing Miku 2012, something based on Tony Taka art from Kotobukiya, more Idolm@ster girls from MegaHouse, Nendoroids of girls from recent animes, Beach Queens that no one really cares about. But there are always surprises, and one of the best parts of collecting is guessing (or rather wishing) what those items might be.
As you may recall, we opened up this wishlist to our readers to celebrate our 1st birthday, and we got a lot of good entries! Many of them Shin Megami Tensei related as well, which I’m going to guess is because you love me so much and knew I couldn’t make all the wishes myself. So what do we all desire from this event? Hit the jump to find out!
Airou Nendoroid: Good Smile Company has been doing a lot of “mascot” style Nendoroids recently like Jack Frost, Sonic, and Teddie. Heck, even Spider-Man has one solid headplate! So logically the next step is Monster Hunter’s totally amazing Airou, who I’ll admit I am obsessed with. Just think of how cute he’d be, and how many nifty accessories they could do! Dear GSC, I will buy 6 if you make them. And 6 Merarus as well.
Welveria from MegaHouse/Orchid Seed: Welveria is one of the newest QB girls, and her book isn’t even out yet! But her design is amazing, and I’d love a figure of her. MegaHouse seems most likely, but I’d much prefer Orchid Seed to take her on in 1/7 scale so she fit in with their Seven Sins line! Orchid DID just start working with one of MH’s top sculptors, so it’s possible. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind MegaHouse either, though sometimes their castoff is a little more awkward and bulky than I’d like to see and Orchid is the master of that.
Polar Bear Cafe Figmas: Polar Bear Cafe was one ridiculous addition to the last anime season and it combines four things I love: polar bears, penguins, pandas, and cafes! That being said, with a show being this ridiculous, I’m completely surprised that not a single figure has come out from it yet. I would love if Max Factory brought out figmas of the main cast at Wonder Festival as they would just be such a joy to play with and come with such great accessories for other figmas as well. I mean, what’s not to love here?
Samurai Champloo Play Arts Kai: Square-Enix just recently showed off Play Arts Kai of Spike and Vicious and continuing in that same vein I would LOVE to see them pick up a similar title for the Play Arts Kai treatment: Samurai Champloo. The three main characters of Mugen, Jin, and Fuu would all play well to the poseability factor of the Play Arts Kai, and after having seen Spike and Vicious in person, I really think that Square-Enix would knock these three out of the park. Considering just how fluid the show was, I think this is the perfect way to bring these characters to life in three dimensions and would really love to see this become a reality.
Top-Tier Nendoroid, figma, or scaled PVC lines of the Keroro Gunso/Sgt.Frog cast: The first series I ever watched when I first got into anime and manga was a little one called Keroro Gunso. It was my favorite one in history at one time, and, I have always wanted good quality figures from it ever since I started collecting. Megahouse got the license back in ’05 and made a decent line of 1/8ths, however, I want a top-tier good quality set of either: Nendoroids, figmas, and/or scaled PVCs. Unfortunately, this probably won’t happen thanks to: the anime ending two years ago in Japan causing it to go into ‘forever limbo’, TokyoPop bankrupting and not producing anymore volumes past 21 and the original Japanese version being only a few volumes ahead, no more movies being produced, the “good” figures being for the movies and manufactured by WAVE (which were highly limited) and the general hype and fanbase is next to nothing nowadays. However, we can all dream, right?
Editor’s Note: I would LOVE Keroro Nendos! Just think of how cute they’d be with an Airou Nendo. Just sayin’, GSC.
Hyouka Figures: Barring myself from repeating previous wishes, however valid they still remain (Noel! Kyosuke nendo!), my wish is for figures from Hyouka, or, most specifically, figures of the main character Houtaro Oreki! While I’m almost certain we might see some figures of the female lead, Eru Chitanda, pop up eventually (which would also make me happy), what I’m really hoping for is some representation on the male figure front. Nendos, figma, scaled static pieces– I really don’t care, just make sure he can tug on his hair and look bored and I’ll be happy! Personally, I think the whole cast would make for a great set of Nendoroids, so I’m hoping maybe we’ll get to see something like that.
Editor’s Note: I feel like Nendos and figmas are VERY likely to appear at WonFest, given that it’s a KyoAni show!
A Kotobukiya Urabe Mikoto: Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X) was one of the sleeper hits for me last season and I’d love to have a figure of the title character, Urabe Mikoto. Her weird habits could make for some interesting sculpts (like pulling out her scissors, or waking up at her desk while drooling, like in the image), her cyclopean hairstyle would look pretty distinctive as well and the series has a oldschool drawing style, which could look pretty cool in figure form. I picked Kotobukiya because they have a tendency to make figures of more obscure shows, along with the fact that they tend to be pretty creative with their figures. I have my fingers crossed, in any case.
Editor’s Note: I think Koto is a good choice, both in terms of style and likelihood. I wouldn’t be surprised if they worked on the series!
A PersonaxDetective Naoto Shirogane from Alter: Despite its fame, the amount of scaled Persona figures has always been extremely disproportionate to the series’ popularity. We do have a fair amount of figures of the series’ leading ladies (most notably teen idol Rise Kujikawa and the android Aigis), but as for Naoto who is possibly the most popular Persona lady she has little more than a Bandai Figuarts prototype and some chibi trading figures. Fortunately, with the release of the Detective Prince’s new spinoff novel comes a new character design which is almost certain to translate into a wonderful figure that both longtime Persona and Naoto fans and strangers to the Shin Megami Tensei franchise could love. A figure so anticipated could only be done by arguably the best figure manufacturer in Japan, and could you imagine that hair of hers sculpted by Yagyuu Toshiyuki? I’m already drooling at the thought!
Editor’s Note: Alter, Persona, and my all-time favorite sculptor?! Oh Dani, this is the figure of my dreams.
A figma IA: The one big wish I have for WonFest may or may not come as a surprise, but it is a figma or Nendoroid version of IA the newest Vocaloid. The reason is due to her sudden popularity (she has a GK in WonFest, and I feel it is the first of many) and of course her popularity is only growing. Further logic, in relation as to why they might do this while older Vocaloids were not picked up, it’s due to their dwindling popularity; no Vocaloid beyond Luka or Gumi really has been able to have staying power. However, IA is the newest girl on the block and is slowly working on owning it, plus her design is fun, unique, and exciting.
Editor’s Note: I really love IA’s design, I’d love to see more of her! Especially that kit from WonFest that’ll be on the site very soon… hey Alter, if you want to pick that up, we’d all appreciate it.
Persona 4 Arena‘s Labrys by Alter: I would like Alter to make a figure of Labrys from Persona 4 Arena. While she shares some design cues with Aigis, her outfit and hair give Labrys a certain femininity that the former lacks. Plus I think her weapon would lend itself to a very dynamic looking figure. I know MegaHouse seems to be taking care of all the Persona 4 figures, but I’d prefer Alter to take another shot at the Persona series, especially since their Yukiko is still one of my favorites.
Editor’s Note: YES PLEASE! Especially if they make her 1/6 scale to match their recent Aegis.
A Demifiend in the Altair line: Lord knows it was hard to decide what I wanted. There are a lot of things I could ask for. In the Winter I asked for a scaled Saber Bride but now? What do I want more that anything? I want Nocturne to be represented by more than just Jack Frost, some prize figures, and a couple of Garage Kits. Alter, you have a line dedicated to dudes so do something for me. Give me the Demifiend. I want nothing more than my super badass Shura to sit next to all those Persona 4 figures. He’s going to sit there looking at Yu and going “Oh you have a sword to fight shadows in a TV? Well I fight demons by punching them in the face…With my fists! Because I’m a badass that’s why. Only one man could ever give me a fight and that’s because he’s powered by glorious sideburns. But you know what I did? FIST TO THE FACE!” So yeah, Altair, please give me a Demifiend. I’d settle for Raidou but he’s a sissy that needs more than a pair of tennis shoes and some khakis. And really, when it comes to demon fighting all you need are fists, badass tats, and some shorts and tennies. (Edit: and also ingesting a demon bug)
Editor’s Note: Nocturne is my favorite game ever and the Demifiend my favorite male figure, so YES PLEASE ALTER DO THIS. I’d like Raidou too, but I’m pretty sure we will be getting a figma of him at least.
So that wraps up our wishlist for this Summer Wonder Festival! We’d like to thank everyone who participated and hope that at least some of us have our dreams come true tomorrow.
