After 4 years in the collecting world with a good chunk of that spent reporting on the hobby, it’s rarely that I come across a figure I haven’t seen before. Well this kit of EVA Unit-01 is apparently a re-release, though I have definitely not heard of this one before! Even odder, the manufacturer (METALBOX) I have pretty much no knowledge of. Probably because they are one of the hundreds of garage kit circles out there, and a minor one at that. Their past figures include mainly big robots and SD-style figures, though apparently now they’ve branched out into full-fledged mass production.
Granted, this (amazing) Unit-01 is an unpainted, unassembled garage kit, but considering that you can buy him on AmiAmi it definitely counts! He’ll cost you a whopping ¥14,000 but with the destroyed angel base it does total 13 inches tall. If this was a painted piece I would definitely get it despite the high price point (hey, I got that crazy expensive Asuka), but sadly I don’t have the skills to work on this guy. Plus he comes out in November, which is just brutal!
