Recently, ReMent has been focusing more and more on character-themed sets. Sure, they’re cute, but they limit what you can do in photoshoots since they’ve got capybaras and bears plastered all over them. Thankfully they’re releasing a new character-free set called the “Welcome Home, It’s Dinner Time!” series, with individual types having goofy names like “Do your best on the test, big bro!” and “Mom likes strong flavors!” How nonsensically Japanese! Sadly there are only 4 types but a box contains 8, meaning you get dupes of every one. Clearly this is a set that’s best to split with a friend. It’s also expensive at ¥4,700 a box at AmiAmi.
There are usually two releases a month, and this time is no exception! The second set is (surprise surprise) a Rilakkuma themed addition full of sweet delights. It’s called the “Funwari Cake Shop” and a case of 8 types retails for ¥2,280 at AmiAmi. Both sets will be released in August. While I’ve been waiting a while for a new “plain” set I find the Rilakkuma one more appealing simply because of the price: you get 8 types for half the cost!
