SDCC 2011: A Closer Look At Kotobukiya’s DC and Marvel Bishoujos

We showed you the lovely ladies that Kotobukiya had on display previously, but they were generous enough to open up the cases for us and let Stephen get up close and personal with these figures. From the Marvel side, we got to see Elektra, Mystique, and the unpainted prototype of X-23. Elektra turned out a lot better than I thought she would, and I really can’t get over how gorgeous the black-to-blue hair is. Her expression has been criticized, but to me she looks very focused and it fits well with the figure.  Mystique stands out a lot because she is the first Bish to be sitting instead of standing, and the pose definitely matches her personality. X-23 also has clear hair, a surprising detail to have in a prototype! Funnily enough the painted X-23 was shown off at Wonder Festival, but you can see the sculpted details a lot better on an unpainted figure.

On the DC side we got close-up looks at Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is my favorite so far–the colors are so vibrant, I love her cocky pose, and the sculpting is really above and beyond the rest of the line. She has so many small details that it is easy to overlook, like the layering of her hair or the leaf detailing on her boots.

We also have a few bonus shots of Binary Ms. Marvel and Black Ver. Batgirl, so check them all out in the gallery and let us know which one is your favorite and who you’d like to see next!
