Katsura Hinagiku from Hayate no Goku! had her (brief) moment in the sun: a handful of figures, mostly prizes, along with a Nendoroid. After that it was radio silence, her time had come and gone. But, mysteriously, she’s been revived for Kotobukiya’s newest swimsuit figure! While they have no specific swimsuit line per say they knock them out nearly as much as AlphaMax or Wave.
Kotobukiya actually worked on Katsura previously in a cute stage-themed figure, but this time she’s (literally) stripped down and ready for some sun. This is a recolor of their 2009 beach version of her, switching the pink swimsuit to blue striped. While her character design isn’t my favorite she is looking rather cute here, and at ¥6,300 for a 1/6 scale figure she’s an awesome deal. But there’s a catch: she’s an exclusive. Set for an August release, even with proxy fees she will cost about the same as a 1/6 scale from any other company. Yeah… prices have risen a lot in the past 4 years.

That’s how I felt when I saw AlphaMax’s new Tony Taka figure <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/miyazawa-model-exhibition-spring-2013-nsfw-alphamax" target="_blank">at Miyazawa Model Exhibition</a>. I’m a huge Tony Taka fangirl as you may know and I snatch up (almost) any figure with his name attached to it, so of course I own quite a few at this point. But this fetching lady, who seems to be named Ringo, tops them all.</p> <p>Her face! It’s the closest I have ever seen a company come to Tony’s artwork, and some of them have come pretty damn close in the past. She’s just… perfection. So much so that I couldn’t pick between the two big event galleries of her. First <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/miyazawa-model-exhibition-spring-2013-kotobukiyas-kobato" target="_blank">Kobato</a>, then <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/miyazawa-model-exhibition-spring-2013-aoshimas-sena" target="_blank">Sena</a>, now a second Sena?! Well I’m not going to complain since I am a big fan of the character design. AlphaMax has already taken on miss Sena, but this time she is in 1/6 scale and in her infamous cow outfit. Not something you see a lot of! It’s just ridiculous, in a hilariously good way.</p> <p>The second figure is another Tony Taka girl from them, this time an original (and NSFW) character. Recently they’ve been doing the ladies from <em>Fault!</em>, and pretty darn well. AlphaMax seems to have really gotten the hang of his faces, and this is one of the best renditions of his art I’ve seen. But finally, we have something brand new! FREEing has taken on Mei Misaki from <em>Another</em> and are doing a swimsuit version of her. No scale is listed, but based on the group shots I’m going to guess at 1/7 or 1/8.</p> <p>We also have some of <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/winter-wonder-festival-2013-freeing" target="_blank">their figures from Wonder Festival painted</a>. A peaceful and serene game franchise featuring monster designs that are cute and cuddly and you’d totally want versions of for your house. Right? I mean, look at that sexy <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/add-some-terror-to-your-collection-with-this-bubblehead-nurse" target="_blank">Bubblehead Nurse</a> Gecco and Mamegyoari made! And now, the adorable Pyramid Head from <em>Silent Hill 2</em> is making an appearance.</p> <p>Okay, so it’s really rather terrifying and disturbing (especially given the fact that it’s dragging around a Mannequin body) but hey, he’s so cool looking! And given that this beast is 1/6, scale and a massive 13 inches, his price of ¥12,000 doesn’t seem like that much at all. So far it’s been mainly the Madoka girls, but now we are getting a new, relatively GSC-exclusive character: Miku Hatsune!</p> <p>My wallet is weeping. I try so hard not to give in to figures like this, 1/6 and poseable is just not my thing. I resisted Madoka, Homura, even Mami. But Miku… yeah, it’s going to be harder. Her two-tone wig, dramatic makeup, chic clothing and awesome tattoo all spoke to me. She went up on Japanese sites, but of course that is crazy expensive for those in the US even with the current great exchange rate.</p> <p>Well, US stores have finally opened up their doors on this doll! Her retail price is $169.99, though you can find her a bit cheaper at some stores.
