    GSC’s Miku Hatsune Hits The Stage

    I am usually a staunch defender of the constant flood of Miku Hatsune figures. While it’s all figures of the same character, there is just so much variety! Racing Miku, Snow Miku, Maiko Miku, Mebae Miku, Tell Your World Miku, Deep Sea Miku… see what I mean? It doesn’t seem repetitive to have so many figures of her when they look so vastly different. But I have a confession: I don’t really love her basic design!

    I used to be all about it, and I have the original Max Factory and GSC versions of her. And as you can see in the comparison photo of the old & new GSC sculpts, they’ve come a loooong way. The difference in quality is astounding! For me, I prefer the more outrageous Mikus. For new collectors, though, this is a great opportunity: not only is her sculpt great, but her price is ¥8,241–almost unheard of in 2017! And you have a while to save that $80 up because she’s not coming out until 2018.

This is no fault of the figure: I’d never watched <em>Overlord</em>, so I thought her colors would be a bit more dramatic. White dress and black wings? I mean, it’s nice, but I feel like the white makes the sculpt look a little washed out. It also highlights one of my biggest pet peeves: clothing you can see a belly button through yet is magically not skintight anywhere else.     When we first saw Racing Miku 2016’s design, I wasn’t the biggest fan. When I saw this I went, “wait, GSC owns Aquamarine??”  Yeah, Leah, that happened a long time ago. Get with the program! And of course this means we get the perks of a closer look at some of their figures from Kahotan. On today’s menu, Izumi Sagiri from<em> Ero Manga-sensei</em>.</p> <p>While Izumi isn’t the most popular character in the figure world, she’s getting a decent amount of attention. We have this, and a nearly identical (but 1/6 scale) figure of her <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/winter-wonfest-2016-nsfw-orca-toys" target="_blank">from Orca</a>. I do love her color palette (soft pastels!) and adorable hairstyle, but something about this is just a little too simple for me.     Preview Alter’s Yuzuruha

    The last time we saw Alter’s Yuzuruha from Oboro Muramasa was back in November, during MegaHobby. She was fully painted and I think we all expected orders to open soon, but it’s been months without seeing anything about her! I’m guessing Alter wanted to add some finishing touches, but I assumed that orders would open before Winter Wonder Festival–and I was probably right!

    We’re getting a preview of her–sadly not from Alter’s blog (which would confirm a pre-order date), but it’s still progress. She looks just as beautiful as you’d expect, with a crazily detailed sculpt and gorgeous paint. I absolutely can’t wait to see her next to Momohime!

You love that!” Well, yes, I do. But I also kind of hate really bland color palettes and most military themes, which this line has in droves. But something about it just draws me in: probably that Alter magic, which makes what should really be a dull color palette into something detailed and gorgeous. I’ve been buying their Strike Witches since the 2nd release!</p> <p>But for some reason, I feel like these are getting a little stale. Probably because they’re doing the same characters over & over: this is their second Charlotte, and it doesn’t seem any better in quality than the first one. Sure, the pose is way more dynamic, but I feel like the sculpting is actually less sharp and the angle looks a bit odd. I really wish they’d work on some of the newer girls!
