It’s been a while since we featured a prize fair on the site, since they’ve been dull dull dull. Evangelion, Evangelion, and more Evangelion. But the 34th has some lovely surprises, like… a Cardcaptor Sakura prize figure! For real. Look at the header. It’s not a mirage, it’s real life, and it’s glorious.
Of course there are other figure (but who cares SAKURA), like… tons of Attack on Titan stuff! Also the usual suspects: Vocaloid, Madoka, Macross, Yuru Yuri, Evangelion (even I’m tired of it…), Bakemonogatari, To Aru, Sword Art Online, Kantai Collection, and… Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! (finally!).

We sure have been experiencing Kuroyukihime overload recently! After the popularity of Accel World I thought we’d be getting a ton of figures of her right after it aired but it seems like companies decided to take their time–which is both a good thing and a bad thing, since most of the focus has shifted to the “sister” property Sword Art Online. However, I rarely pay attention to the shows figures are from so this is definitely not an issue for me. However, I am still not in love with any of the versions of her–while at first I adored Kotobukiya’s I was less in love as time wore on, I’ve already expressed my opinions on Max Factory’s take, and I am no more smitten by this version than when we last saw her at ACE.
While it’s a pretty figure, the sitting pose feels like a cop-out. Kuroyukihime has a stunning outfit and killer wings, there’s just so much to work with! Give me a dynamic pose, people! Granted the paint here is lovely and she is a looker, but I just feel like her design has such potential. Plus, this might be the creepiest Mikatan post so far. I’m still holding out for a great paint job on the Chara-Ani Kuroyukihimes! If this version is your cup of tea she’s going up for order on the 30th.

I can’t believe I’ve written about this figure so many times and not once made a joke about how the piece’s official name, ‘Death by Embracing’, essentially means hugging to death. Ooh, scary! The world’s most deadly cuddle! Actually Black Lotus’ arms appear to be blades so yeah, that’s a killer hug. My opinion on this figure has gone back and forth so much–first I was confused about the bust aspect, then happy she was going to have legs, but when we finally saw the legs I snorted my tea all over the place because they look ridiculous.
Seriously, look at the 360 shots of Kuroyukihime by herself. The sculpt has a lot of issues: she looks bizarrely elongated, kind of emaciated (those ribs are freaking me out), and her head is HUGE. Even by anime standards, that is a friggin enormous head. Thankfully, the bust display is really growing on me. And I love that you can display Black Lotus by herself! Though leave it to Akibahobby to give us boob shots of a robot…

Welcome to the return of the roundup! Sadly we here at Plastikitty got hit by a nasty spring flu so we’ve been out of commission in terms of the roundup for a few weeks, but now we’re back in business! Though technically it’s the roundup for the week of 3/29~4/4 we’re also featuring some of the best figures from the week before as well.
So what do we have in store? Tons of pretty ladies! In fact we’ve got releases from almost all the major manufacturers, including some that I have been really looking forward to. Check them all out after the jump!

Kuryukihime has proven to be very popular in terms of figures at least, but I still haven’t found quite the right figure for me. I missed the boat on Kotobukiya’s (though I still thought she was a little too cutesy just for me personally), I ended up wildly disappointed in Max Factory’s, so I was holding out hope for the GSC announced version.
Well… she’s nice and all, but I just am not feeling it! I suppose it’s the pose, which is super dull (especially given all they have to work with–her wings and dress are so pretty!). I mean she looks nice here, just not ‘WOW I NEED TO OWN THIS’ nice. I am still hoping for a good paintjob for those Chara-Ani sculpts.

I really, really don’t like busts–I like my figures to have legs, not hang around on a shelf dismembered. That was my main (and really only) issue with Max Factory’s Kuroyukihime and Black Lotus, even when we saw their awesome paint job at Wonder Festival. But it seems like Max Factory understands that most people don’t want half of a naked Kuroyukihime and… she’s getting legs! As well as underwear I’d assume, since this isn’t Native or Giga Pulse.
Along with the legs, ‘Death By Embrace’ comes with a hefty pricetag of ¥10,800 and is coming out in August–yes, the same month as their Belldandy. Uhh sure, Max Factory, totally buying that one. Orders open tonight, and depending on how her appendages look I might not be able to resist this one!
[UPDATE] Added Mikatan‘s pictures… yeah, I’m still not sold on this piece. They really wasted a cool opportunity on the legs!

AmiAmi has this nasty habit of combining our orders into big glumps that overlap between months. So, for example, we might not get some of our January stuff until the beginning of March (yet mysteriously it will be with not just February but March items as well). You may have noticed that we skipped a January loot post: well, that’s because we didn’t even get all our figures from it until a few days ago!
But thankfully January and February seemed to be smaller months than most, so we’re just going to combine them into a mega loot post! Check it all out after the jump.

I am as baffled by this duo of figures now as I was when we first saw them. Not because they are bad or weird: quite the opposite! They are totally, fabulously gorgeous. The sculpting on the kneeling Kuroyukihime is stunning and ridiculously high quality, and the pose on the flying one is the most original I’ve seen in a long time.
The weird part is that they are done by Chara-Ani, a small mid-tier company, yet their sculpts here look better than the newly announced GSC Kuroyukihime. So what gives? Whatever it is, I’m not going to complain. I am, however, going to pray to the figure gods that the paint is as lovely as the sculpt.

Toy’s Works and Chara-Ani make cute, simple figures, right? Like check out the gallery, we’ve got adorable Kuroneko, some cute To Aru Kagaku no Railgun girls, the more elaborate but still kind of simple Honda Futayo and then… BAM KUROYUKIHIME UP IN HERE.
They ahve two sculpts for her and both look… oh god, so pretty. In fact, uncolored I am going to say that I like them more than Kotobukiya’s and GSC’s new version of her… as well as the MF one, which is still too weird for my taste. The poses are just so elaborate and pretty! Let’s hope they look nice painted.
