  • I have to say, I was not 100% sold on the reveal of Snow Miku 2018. It looked a little bland, and not quite as creative as some of the past designs. We’re finally getting a full art reveal for her and I must say, I’ve completely changed my tune! Maybe it’s the lovely atmosphere of this piece but I am smitten. We will, of course, be getting the usual Nendoroid & figma of her (expect a reveal of the figures closer to Wonder Festival), but this makes me desperate for a scale. I say that every year (and it never happens, except for the OG design, but just look at her! She’d make a really gorgeous PVC figure. Maybe from Max Factory? Pretty please? [via Piapro]

  • I think it came as a big surprise to all of us when Good Smile Company & co snagged the Overwatch license. But they’re really a perfect fit: we get both the cutesy Nendoroids and the articulated, true-to-model figmas. Combine that with Blizzard’s statues and there’s (almost) something for everyone. The figma line is moving along a bit slower than the Nendoroid one, but that’s to be expected: with the level of detail and articulation you get on a figma, you just can’t pump them out as quickly! And figma Genji is looking really amazing. Just look at that sexy robot body. Though technically he’s a cyborg, right? What character would you like to see next in the Overwatch figma (or Nendoroid) line? Personally, I want a Nendo Reaper something fierce. Let us know in the comments!

  • After the years upon years we waited for Persona 5, it’s only fair that we get an absolute metric ton of merchandise from it. I mean, I think at this point we have more P5 figures than P4... which is really saying something. I mean, the game just came out this year! In the US, at least. Waiting for translations is so annoying. Of course Max Factory was one of the first companies to jump on the P5 hype train. After all, based god MF is the one who gave us a P3 figma. So far we only have Joker in the lineup, but he comes with a little Morgana so it’s kind of like two for the price of one! I’m considering putting Morgana on my alarm clock to give me even less of a reason to wake up. I mean, just imagine it: you roll over in the morning to hit your alarm and are faced with the “it’s time for bed” cat. What’s one more hit of the snooze, right?

  • Nendoroid Sucy just went up for pre-order (AmiAmi, HLJ, HS, BIJ) so now seems like the perfect time to take a closer look at her! I must admit, every time I see her name I think it’s a typo and she’s actually Suzy. But no, this is Sucy. Like her parents couldn’t decide between Lucy and Suzy so they just combined them! But that’s neither here nor there. Something that’s much clearer in person than in her stock photos is the hair color gradient: it’s really subtle but beautifully executed. She’s such a lovely pastel baby. Actually, with that sad face and witch outfit, Sucy is pretty much pure pastel goth. One of my favorite niche fashion styles!

  • Square-Enix is known for their oversized action figures, but they are going in a different direction for the new Nier: Automata line. These Bring Arts (not the catchiest name) are about figma-sized, and super articulated. I’m glad to see a cheaper and daintier option from them! They showed off YoRHa No. 2 Type B and Machine Lifeform. They also had a ridiculously cute set of Trading Arts minis and some fancy jewelry if that’s your jam.

  • I have such a love-hate relationship with Square-Enix and their figure production. I love Final Fantasy. I hate that we only get action figures from Squeenix themselves (and the occasional bust). While I must admit that the Play Arts Kai are awesome (I dearly love my FFXII Fran), they’re so expensive! Also I prefer scales, so obviously I’m a bit biased here. They had yet another Lightning out at NYCC, cause we absolutely need more of her, along with Terra, Zach, and a Cid who comes with Cait Sith! Dear Squeenix, if you sell him separately (or with the fatto catto body) I will but that shit so fast.

  • I remember the dark times when Good Smile Company didn’t come to US events. Thankfully those days are over, because their booth is usually the toy highlight of any convention! And they really brought it for NYCC this year with not one but two separate booth displays. They had a lot of brand-new goodies, like the Anniversary Miku (look at that hair!!), figma Genji, and the sculpt for the Breath of the Wild Guardian Nendoroid. It’s always nice to be able to see figures in person, it’s quite a different experience–for example, I wasn’t really sold on Marie Rose’s colors at all when the promotional shots came out, but I was totally won over when I finally got to see her. She might be coming to my pre-order list!

  • For one brief, shining moment Umaru-chan was all the rage in the figure world. Nendoroid, trading figures, and merchandise out the wazoo. She was the It Girl for roughly 4 months, and now we see absolutely nothing from the show. But a second season is starting soon, which means it’s time for this short-lived hype train to get back on the tracks. Good Smile Company showed off an unpainted Nendoroid of Nana Ebina the other day, and she looks so cute! She has had a whopping 1 figure before this, and it was a little trading one, so this is a great day to be a Nana fan. [via Kahotan & mfc]

  • Usually we get a decent amount of time between the reveal of Good Smile’s two seasonal Mikus, Snow and Racing. But this year, they’re going a little crazy for her 10th anniversary and showing off both at the same time! Because what we need this week is more Miku news, don’t you think? I must admit that the Racing designs almost never win me over until I see a sculpted scale, and this one is no different: it’s a little blah, and I feel like the ‘royalty’ theme for her is a little overdone. The Snow design, though, is so cute! Makes me sad we never get scales of the Snow designs. [via linz_torute]

  • The sub-header of this post should be “but not the one you want or expect.” I saw that we were getting another Yu-Gi-Oh figma and my mind immediately went to all sorts of crazy places. Figma Pegasus? Figma Mai Valentine? Figma JOEY WHEELER? Nope. We’re jumping right to Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS and Playmaker, who has a name and design ripped straight from Tron. I love how bizarre this franchise has gotten. I mean, it was already pretty weird in the first few seasons. Then we got Jaden’s show, then Yu-Gi-Oh on bikes, and now… Yu-Gi-Oh in the mainframe? Wild, I tell you. While I have no idea what is going on here I’m not gonna lie, I like it. [via the figma blog]
