Agent G Archive

  • Kotobukiya has a few different Bishoujo lines: the comic and game ones have been moving along at a rapid pace since they were started, with several franchises in each. But the Movie x Bishoujo is inarguably slower, with only two releases so far: Ghostbusters Lucy (review) a year and a half ago, and Star Wars Jaina (review) a few months ago. Now we’re getting the third release, who just happens to be from a third franchise: Agent G from Men In Black. From the first announcement, this seemed like a rather odd collaboration. The art and sculpt didn’t inspire a ton of confidence, but that seems like a general trend in the Bish line: nobody can agree on the art, there are usually complaints about the sculpt, but generally once they come out people have less to worry about and they sell well. So did Agent G follow the same path? Hit the jump to find out!

  • Kotobukiya announced a Men In Black 3 Bishoujo at NYCC, and the art was shown off at SDCC this year. I was surprised that after so many months she wasn’t sculpted yet, but it seems like she’s been in the works for a while as she is now both sculpted and painted! Thankfully they kept the hydrant and tentacle from the illustration, and I think the base is actually the best part of this figure. I love intricate bases, and I feel it adds a lot to this piece. The face is the one part I’m not sold on: it looks too, well, American for me. That might seem weird since Agent G’s an American character, but I feel like Shunya’s style is a bit lost. The pose and outfit look great though, especially the sculpting on her coat and the glossy tights! She’ll come out in February 2013 in the US, and probably January in Japan. I think she’ll pair quite well with the Ghostbusters Lucy (review). [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • 9 months ago, Kotobukiya sneakily announced two new Bishoujo lines: Street Fighter and Men In Black! Now, at SDCC, we are finally getting some real info on these figures! Cammy and Chun-Li were announced in the Street Fighter line, and Chun-Li it seems will be the first. I honestly don’t really like the Street Fighter designs, but Shunya Yamashita is a master of Chinese-themed girls so she is already looking goof. Agent G from Men In Black is more my style, decked out in sleek office-wear. Is the fire hydrant going to be in the final piece though? It looks a bit out of place!
