Alpha x Omega Archive

  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Earlier this year, Alpha x Omega showed off their amazing Halloween-themed Eri Ayase figure. Sadly, she was both expensive and an exclusive, so I never got to own that cutie. Just look mournfully from a distance and wish she was mine. Sigh. Now, about a year after the initial announcement, they’re adding another girl: Nozomi Toujou! At this rate it’ll only take a decade to get the full set. But for real, Nozomi is one of my favorite Love Live girls, so I’m excited to see that she is next in line. I mean, she’ll probably be another exclusive and will slip through my fingers once again, but at least I get to admire the pretty pictures? [via Alpha x Omega]

  • Most shows do not get mini-events where the figures on display are 99% from it. But somehow, IDOLM@STER consistently does! Probably because every company under the sun has made at least one of the girls, so there is always a lot of news. And this event is no exception. There was so much on display! Alpha x Omega’s Nao Kamiya, Rin Shibuya, and Karen Houjou trio is painted, as is Alter’s Love Laika set of Minami Nitta, Ranko Kanzaki, and Anastasia. Alter also had two new announcements: Uzuki Shimamura and Shiki Ichinose. Oh, and the sculpt for Sachiko Koshimizu on display. Alter, calm down! Wave, a company that’s very much fallen out of popularity, was on hand with a few girls. Mika Jougasaki is painted, and they had a sculpt for swimsuit Ranko along with the announcement for a Beach Queen Nitta. Last but not least, Kotobukiya brought a few girls! They had a surprise sculpt for Yuki Himekawa along with an announcement for Cu-Poche Kaede Takagaki. [UPDATE] Added two of Phat’s figures! [via whitenoize & figsoku]

  • Ah, MegaHobby Expo. It’s like Wonder Festival’s little brother! While it’s smaller, it’s still full of exciting announcements! Well, a few announcements. Alter brought all their newest goodies out in full force. While there’s not much new (just the announcement of Rei Sakuma and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars), there are lots of painted beauties. Like their bunny Sora, or the Charlotte & Laura cat pajama figures which I am IN LOVE WITH. Their Love Live! Umi is also painted, and so so pretty, along with Leonardo Watch from the Altair line. We also have some sculpts! Purple Heart is here (and while I love her design, not a single one of her many figures has done it for me), along with some of the Alpha x Omega girls: Karen Houjou and Nao Kamiya. There’s also Asuka Sugou from Shin Seiki GPX Cyber Formula which is kind of a surprise. [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • I was over the moon when Alpha x Omega announced that they’d be picking up Primal Heart’s garage kit of Eri Ayase from Love Live. I mean, I love Primal Heart and I love Halloween figures. What could go wrong? Well, I should have known better than to get my hopes up because Alpha x Omega means MegaHouse is involved. And I am pretty certain they just sit around a table all day cackling and discussing ways to screw over their fans. Dear MegaHouse (and Bandai): I hate you and you are dead to me. Love, Leah. So Eri is an exclusive and I wanna cry. She’s so pretty! But already so expensive (¥14,400 retail) plus fees on top of that? No bueno. Why do you hate me, MegaHouse? Why couldn’t Alter have done this by themselves? Because they want us to suffer, that’s why. [via Bandai Premium]

  • A new year, a new batch of magazine scans! Sadly with 2016 we aren’t getting any good changes. AKA, it’s still almost all MegaHouse. I miss old scans so bad, guys, but I need to get over it! Just appreciate what we’ve got! Because there’s a lot of nostalgia here. I mean, there’s the usual One Piece figures (including some totally over the top anatomy as per usual), yet another figma Kirito (we totally need that), and Alpha x Omega’s Eri! Then… nostalgia train. We’ve got Digimon, Dragonball Z, and Pokemon. Lots and lots of Pokemon. Ash and Misty are here, of course, with basically no updates. But we’ve got new ones! Cynthia will be joining the line, along with Steven Stone! Talk about characters I never expected to see in figure form. And why is Metagross so freaking tiny? But whatever. More Pokemon. Not gonna complain. [via takezo1101’s Twitter]

  • We’ve seen Alter’s Yuzuruha, but of course they had lots more at Megahobby Expo! I mean, they did just show off some stuff at that IDOLM@STER event but still, many goodies to be had. There were, of course, many of their Love Live! girls (seeing as how they are doing the whole cast): the Halloween Eri was there (which is technically Alpha x Omega), along with Maki Nishikino and Nozomi Tojou. We also have two Sabers: the previously announced Saber Alter is sculpted, and they’ve announced a new school uniform one. Personally, I don’t need any more Sabers, but man the dress on that Alter… The most exciting announcement (to me) is a dual figure of Charlotte and Laura from Infinite Stratos… as catgirls! It’s just too cute. We also have sculpts for Edna from Tales of Zestiria (who I seriously thought was another Saber), along with Julius Will Kresnik from Tales of Xillia 2. Gertrud Barkhorn, the last announced Strike Witch, is sculpted, and the rather risque Mea Kurosaki got a paint job along with Isuzu Sento. Check them all out below! [UPDATE] Added Yukina Himeragi from Strike the Blood [via whitenoize, prizeman_ufo & Hobby Search]

  • You know what we need right before MegaHobby? Another figure event! What is up with how many we’ve had this fall? This time it’s one dedicated only to IDOLM@STER, and there were a LOT of figures at it. Wave, surprisingly, is making non-Beach Queens figures of some of the Cinderella Girls: sculpts for Kaede Takagaki and Miku Maekawa appeared, along with announcements for Rika Jougasaki, Miria Akagi, and Kirari Moroboshi. We’re also getting another Dollfie Dream from Volks: Rin Shibuya! Kotobukiya joined the party with the sculpt for Kaede Takagaki and an announcement for Nana Abe. Good Smile Company & Co had, of course, the most updates. Phat! Company had many of their girls, along with a brand new sculpt of Rin Shibuya. The Love Laika version of Anastasia, which just went up for order, was painted, along with the matching Minami Nitta. Good Smile’s Crystal Night Party figure of Uzuki Shimamura is sculpted, and we have figmas of Rika and Mika Jougasaki based on their anime appearance. Then we have Alter! First, three announcements from their Alpha x Omega collaboration: Rin Shibuya, Karen Houjou, and Nao Kamiya. They also showed off the amazing sculpts for Riina Tada and Miku Maekawa. Phew, that’s a lot of idols! [via taka humo, kuroneko_r, and kahotan]

  • When was the last time you heard the name Alpha x Omega? If you’re a newer figure fan, you might not even know about this company, which is a collaboration between Alter and MegaHouse. They (technically) have worked on some of MegaHouse’s Yamato girls, but their last stand-alone piece was of Yagyu Kyubei in 2013. That’s a long time to go figure-less, and I kind of assumed they were defunct. But thankfully (because their quality is usually great), they’ve come back together! And, oddly enough, it’s to mass-produce a Primal Heart sculpt. This is weird because Alter has produced some of them, so it’s odd to see a team-up for one of their sculpts. This time it’s of an amazing Halloween version of Eri Ayase, which is just… perfect. I really like Eri’s design but none of her figures have really spoken to me until now. [via figure/GK]

  • I’ve found MegaHouse’s Gundam SEED line a bit lackluster so far, especially Lacus who is just… not as good as I’d hope for, at all. I was hoping their joint company with Alter, Alpha x Omega, would hop on board sooner or later and here they are! Oddly enough they’re doing Jule Yzak, a character no one cares about. Okay, I kid, there are probably like 20 people at least who care. I hope they do Meer as well! [via twiple]
