@GeekeryDo: @mikeyturvey I agree with you. I stopped reading them because I got tired of it, though @Sir_Narwhal is correct that it's normal for comics.

@GeekeryDo: @Sir_Narwhal @mikeyturvey yeh but that's just one arc and it's easy to read it all since, as you said, it's been put together like that.

@NFern0: @Sir_Narwhal Sounds like (ohoho) specialist equipment. Black Friday is more mass consumer oriented isn't it?

Aya Shameimaru Archive

I’ve gotten to a point where I really hate Wonder Festival teasers. It’s like when you are a little kid and you peek at your Christmas presents: it ruins the surprise! But Good Smile Company just loves to bombard us with teaser after teaser, and Mikatan went all out this year so let’s dive right in. We have peeks at only two scaled figures, the just-announced Uzuki Shimamura and yet another Madoka Kaname (kill me now), this time a dynamic version of her in her regular outfit! It’s based on art of all 5 of the main girls… you know what that means.
As for Nendos, we have a ton. Quite a few from last WonFest are updated: Aegis is scupted, Strength is painted & sculpted, Aya is finished, and Rina Ozawa is sculpted! As for the new we’ve got Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan (no surprise there), Makoto Naegi from Dangan Ronpa (who is only kind of new because we’ve seen him before), Saber Alter, Tomoko Kuroki from Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera, and Sakura Mai from Photokanon. But don’t worry, I’m sure they’ve got 20 other new Nendos to show off at the event.

I have officially overdosed on Nendoroids. Do you know how many there were at Wonder Festival? 38. THIRTY FREAKING EIGHT. Over 40, counting the petits. So we’re just going to dive right in: all of the teasers are here, Chariot, Monokuma (and his pink counterpart Monomi), Hitagi, Shizue, Sheryl (and a matching Ranka), Tsukiko (petit and full sized), Rin Natsume and Darth Wooser. As far as BRS goes, we also have a full Strength and Petits of BRS herself, Strength, Black Gold Saw and Chariot. The next Touhou Nenodoroid is Aya Shameimaru, and unsurprisingly Akane Isshiki will be getting a full Nendoroid and a Petit along with Rei Kuroki. Nozomu Itoshiki is getting a second version, which seems a little weird!
Then we have Inia and Cryska from Muv-Luv, a new set of Vocaloid petits, Sasami Tsukuyomi, Misaka Mikoto, Charles Yoshino, Tooka Yagotami, Cecilia Alcott, Akane Tsunemori, Maou, Tia, Amy, Ricca Morizono, Miyuki Takano, Alice Kuji, a petit of Rachel Alucard, more Nanoha and Aegis. PHEW! Check them all out in the gallery.

Griffon, Touhou Project, and event exclusives: it’s a match made in heaven, or at least Griffon seems to think so! They always have a ton of recolors no matter what the event, and this time its Touhou Kouroumu 8, a doujin event that will take place on October 7th. Most of these are not new: we saw them at Aka no Hiroba 8 and Wonder Festival. However, we do have two new colorways: one of their version 2 Komachi Onozuka, and a red version of their Gungir Remilia Scarlett. We’ve also got Marisa, Reimu, Suika, Yuyuko, and many many more. If you’re hitting up the event you’ll have a ton of options! If not, expect these to pop up on the after-market quite soon (and for not much of a price bump!).

Griffon sure does love events, and always brings way more exclusives than any other company. Of course it’s always recolors, but some of them are quite cool! For Aka no Hiroba 8 they’ve got quite a few lined up, though only two are “new.” We’ve got a 3rd colorway of their Curiosities of Lotus Asia Remilia and a FOURTH version of their Aya Shameimaru (though the clear one is still my favorite).
Everything else we’ve seen before: they’ve got quite a few of their Wonder Festival colors along with that weird Christmas Flandre. Each of them is very limited, around 30 pieces a pop, but thankfully Griffon does tend to bring back their recolors a LOT. Aka no Hiroba will take place on September 9th if you happen to be in Japan and want to pick one of these ladies up!

When Griffon unveiled their Wonder Festival exclusives, there were hints that another Touhou girl would be getting announced as well: their Version 2 Aya Shameimaru in a clear colorway. Well, turns out it wasn’t just speculation and weird file naming, because here she is! I actually totally love this colorway, since I’m addicted to clear PVC and all. It makes her look wonderfully ghostly! She should be about ¥6,800 like the first release, and is limited to only 300 pieces so you’ll definitely have to hire a proxy if you want to add her to your collection.

Unlike most companies that go for a handful of exclusives at each event, Griffon is always ready with seemingly endless colorways of their Touhou girls to bring to Wonder Festival. This year is, of course, no exception: Wonder Festival is about 3 weeks away, and Griffon is gearing up with a slew of exclusives. There will be garage kits of sevearl of their Touhou girls: the new Aya Shameimaru, Toyosatomimi no Miko, Yuyuko Saigyouji, and Curiosities of Lotus Asia Reimu. Then there’s the new recolors: Yuyuko is getting a very pink version, there will be what seems to be a watermelon-themed Suika, Miko is going purple & red, Hatate Himekaidou is getting an Aya-based colorway, and we’re getting a girlie version of Harumi (the only non-Touhou girl there!). These are the new ones, but there will be quite a few that we’ve seen before at the event as well. It seems like they’ll also have a clear Aya!
Of course these are event exclusives, and all limited to only a few hundred pieces so you will need to attend to snap one up. None of them are really calling to me though, except for Hatate who I do like. However, I skipped Aya so I fear she’d be a bit lonely!

Touhou Project is already full of adorable girls, but of course you can never have too much cute, so Penguin Parade & Algernon Product have amped up the moe factor by adding them to their Petanko line. Aka the line where everyone is an adorable loli! Two “volumes” (aka sets) are getting released at once, so let’s start with Volume 2. It includes Satori Komeji, Koishi Komeji, Patchouli Knowledge, Kaguya Houraisan, Yuyuko Saigyouji Yuka Kazami, Aya Shameimaru, Reimu Hakurei, and Cirno, as well as a secret release. And if you buy a set on AmiAmi you get a bonus Sakuya Izayoi! A case of these rubber straps doesn’t come cheap though, retailing at ¥5,780 a pop with a September release date. At least you get all ten!
Volume 3 comes with Yukari Yakumo, Ran Yakumo, Chen, Suika Ibuki, Hanaoogi Ibaraki, Suwako Moriya, Tensh Hinanai, Marisa Kirisame, Youmu Konpaku, and a secret figure, as well as the AmiAmi bonus Nofuto Mononobe. It retails for the same price as Volume 2 on AmiAmi with a November release date. This set contains almost all of my favorite Touhou girls (Yukari, Ran, Chen, Suika, Marisa & Tenshi) and Volume 2 contains pretty much the rest of them (Cirno, Aya, Sakuya) so this is pretty tempting despite the high price!

When Griffon announced a new version of Aya Shameimaru I was pretty excited because I love her design, but the sculpt didn’t really wow me. I feel kind of in between now: I love the paint job and I think she’s very cute, but at the same time the sculpt is just not very interesting. I think the unusual color palette kind of makes up for that though, and she certainly looks more polished here than she did at Reitaisai 9. It also seems like her accessories (fan, camera, hat pom-poms) can all be removed so you can mix and match for the look you want! I’m still unsure if I want to order her or not though, the Kotobukiya version of Aya is just so perfect that I end up comparing them in my head… and sadly, this version comes up a little short.

Griffon’s main focus has been on Touhou Project for a while, though I do think they’ve slowed down production a bit recently to put more effort into each individual figure. As such, there were no new sculpts at Reitaisai, but their new Aya Shameimaru seems to be partially painted. They had art for two of the figures announced at Wonder Festival, Murasa Minamitsu and Parsee Mizuhashi, which means they should be next up. But of course there were two new announcements as well: Komachi Onazuka and Remilia Scarlett will be getting new versions! Komachi I am pretty excited for, as the first version was only so-so, but I’m not sure how they are going to top their previous Remilias. The outline does at least look interesting!
I just have one question: where the heck is Lorelei Mystia?!
