Bakemonogatari Archive

  • Prize figures have always been appealing: you get a cheap version of a popular character, often in an outfit that we’d never see in scales. Plus, the quality gets better and better on them every year. With rising scaled figure prices and a worsening exchange rate, prize figures are looking better than ever, so it’s a good thing the upcoming lineup of them seems amazing! We have all the regulars out and about: Evangelion, Kantai Collection, Sword Art Online, Fate/Grand Order, Bakemonogatari, Miku, Lupin, and many many more. The noodle topper ones really seem to be taking the prize world by storm: I have a few and can vouch for how amazingly fun they are to display all sorts of odd ways. Any of them catch your eye? • Another day, another event in Japan! This time around it’s Anime Japan 2017, a smaller event that only a handful of companies attend. But they still had quite a few new goodies to show us. Re:Zero seemed to be the real star here: Rem & Ram have figures from Good Smile Company, and Rem is getting a Cu-Poche. Kemono Friends also proved to be quite popular, with the Nendoroid reveal of Serval and a figma announcement for her too. There were, of course, many Nendoroids out on display. Li Syaoran is sculpted and so cute! We had a few new announements from Kotobukiya too, like a scaled figure of Aiz Wallenstein from Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria. Why with these names, Japan. Aiz had a fully painted surprise figure from Genco out & about too. Check them out and much more in the gallery! [via Kahotan & Dengeki]

  • As collectors, our focus for Wonder Festival is obviously on the things that you can, you know, actually buy. But at the event, purchasable PVC figures are outnumbered pretty substantially by garage kits. We of course brought you our usual before-event roundup, but it’s time to take a look at all the goodies that were out and about that day! The quality ranges from amazing to god-awful, so we tried to bring you the cream of the crop. Though I will admit, quite a few in this gallery are just here because of how odd they are. Shirtless Gilgamesh? Girl getting (happily) eaten by a shark? Cat on a motorcycle? Check ’em out and tons more below the jump! [via 1up, tom matsumodo, & hanpenx]

  • Max Factory is one of my favorite companies, but they’re certainly not a super productive one. They only had a few scaled figures on hand at WonFest, but they were lovely! Like that bike racing Miku: so cute! There’s also a Luka figure if you’re all Miku’d out. Wedding Lingerie Lala is finally here, and Murakumo from KanColle is painted. We also have 3 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata announcements (so many from them and GSC!): Utaha, Eriri, and Megumi. Oh, and there’s a surprise Devilman outta nowhere. A large portion of their display is dedicated to the small figures, like their Love Live figFIX and the model kit Plamax (Dirty Pair!). Plus we had all those Fate/Grand Order figures from earlier. [UPDATE] We have a picture of their Iowa! [via whl4u]

  • We are about a week away from the two big winter events, Toy Fair & Winter Wonder Festival. But before then, a little taste of that event-reveal excitement! Yes, it’s time for ~yet another prize fair.~ I do love prize figures, but I had to cut myself off because man do those boxes add up into a wall really quickly. This time around, we have of course all the usuals: Dragon Ball Z (I need that Piccolo), Fate/Stay Night, IDOLM@STER, Sword Art Online, Bakemonogatari, Evangelion, Disney, Kantai Collection, et cetera. Everything from cute to creepy (can we stop with the big-head Disney Princesses now?). There are some newcomers on the scene too, like Touhou Project and BLAME! The star for me is that Anzu Futaba in the header: that sculpt does NOT look like a prize figure! [via Dengeki]

  • It’s almost fall, and you know what that means–new season, new Prize Fair. They’re on the 45th already, if you can believe it! And like always, the big 4 (FuRyu, Taito, SEGA, & Banpresto) had all the upcoming prize figures out on display. I always try to swear off prize figures, but like clockwork there are one or two that draw me back in. This time, funnily enough, it’s a collab I’ve basically ignored because I’m interested: the Madogatari figures. That Kiss-Shot in Homura garb, hnnng! There’s lots of other great stuff, and of course all the regulars (Evangelion, Miku, KanColle, Disney, Dragon Ball Z) were out in force. Check them all out in the gallery below! [via Dengeki]

  • You  know what they say: new season, new prize fair! Okay, so only I say that, but it’s basically true. Prize Fairs are a never-ending event that seem to strike when the weather changes. I know it’s technically been spring for months, but here in NY it’s been incredibly chilly until just this week. Finally, warm weather! And new figures! We have quite a few awesome things here, and some less than awesome ones as well–like the incredibly creepy Disney Princess line that will haunt my dreams. But along with the nightmares are cool releases like a bunch of Dragonball Z goodies including, at long last, Mr. Satan! We’ve also got Macross, Evangelion, Miku Hatsune, Fate/Grand Order, Kantai Collection, and a whole lot more… like my persona favorite, the Okami noodle toppers. Check them all out below! • How many prize fairs are there even in a year? 4? 6? One every damn month? Sometimes it seems like that. I keep trying to swear off prize figures: they’re great quality for the price, but I already have so many expensive scaled figures and I am quickly running out of storage room. Or rather, I ran out a long time ago and just come up with more and more creative solutions. Yet somehow I keep coming back to prize figures. I can’t resist them! This batch seems particularly good. We have more of the Madoka x Bakemonogatari line, new Kantai Collection girls, more Evangelion (of course), a strange lack of Miku Hatsune, and more. Check them all out in the gallery! [UPDATE] Added Eikoh’s Puzzle & Dragons girls! [via Hobbylog & Dengeki]

  • One of my favorite things about Wonder Festival is the garage kits. I mean, on one hand I can’t actually own any of them and that’s kind of sad. But on the other hand, I can’t own any of them so yay not spending money! This year we have a really great mix to share with you. There’s everything from creative to sexy to cute–a lot of cute! Cute Dark Souls, cute Sonico, cute Kill la Kill, cute Polar Bear Cafe. We also have some US shows creeping in (yes, that is Finn & Jake!), a LOT of Kantai Collection (especially the bad girls–and the good girls in swimsuits?), Miku of course, a surprising amount of Persona merch including an amazingly perfect cat Aegis, and so much more. Check it all out in the gallery: and like always, all kits are named with both the circle & character name to help you find it if you’re going to the show! [via Hyaka Koubou, d.o.a.t, Amon, Atelier Hiro, Ryou, Umiyama, Rampage, Ringo Renmei, Fixia, Abeshi15, T’s System]

  • Treasure Festa is one of the biggest garage-kit-centric events, and we always get lots of beautiful goodies to look at and drool over. I mean, the chances that any of them will get made into PVC are pretty slim, but hey, we can dream! And salivate over how freaking perfect some of these are. That Ranko, man! Some of the trends were pretty obvious: there’s a lot of Miku Hatsune and quite a bit of Sailor Moon. We also saw, of course, some Evangelion, Fate/Stay Night and Bakemonogatari. More surprising was the lack of some things: we have a bit of Love Live! and IDOLM@STER, but not as nearly as much as I’d expect. And there’s also one Monster Musume figure: I thought that show was basically made to make figures from, but this is literally the first item we’ve seen from it. Maybe there will be more at Wonder Festival? Also, we usually like to focus on the good kits here, but I’ve included a truly, startlingly horrible one for you at the end. It involves boobs literally floating toward heaven. Enjoy. [via moeyo & Twoon Two]
