  • It seems like Good Smile Company & co brought more to Miyazawa Model Expo than everyone else combined. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have good stuff from the other companies! In fact, we have way more non-GSC news to show you. So let’s just dive right in! Vertex showed off a ton of sculpts, including the Rune Knight from 7th Dragon which looks amazing. Kaitendoh’s Hestia is painted, and Wave brought theirs as well (along with tons of Beach Queens, most of them from Love Live). Dragon Toy/Daiki Kougyou showed off a handful of new sculpts, including some original Oda Non works. One of AlphaMax’s newest Tony Taka girls is painted, Orchid Seed actually made progress on a figure, we have announcements from Revolve and Gecco, there’s a new set of Digimon figures from MegaHouse, and tons more. Check it all out in the gallery! [via Akibahobby]

  • About two years ago, Wave jacked up the price of their 1/10 Beach Queens line significantly, so that they basically rivaled a lot of 1/8 scale figures in prices. There was obvious backlash to this: sales fell, and we see about a third as many Beach Queens nowadays as we used to. I mean, it used to be like 4 a month. Now they hardly ever pop up for order. But the line still chugs on, and the next addition will be Isuzu Sento from Amagi Brilliant Park! And her sculpt is… well, let’s just be honest. It’s not good. Her head is super tiny and her bust is way bigger than on any of her other figures, which there are a lot of. Want a figure of Isuzu? You’ve got Amakuni and Kotobukiya to choose from right now, along with Max Factory’s upcoming one. Dying for a bikini version of her? There’s a cute prize figure. I mean, this does come in two colors (though you know one of them is going to be exclusive) but do you really want to pay $60 for that teeny tiny head?! It’s so small. Why, Wave. Why. • It has been quite some time since Wave announced that they would be doing Persona Beach Queens–and at that time, they only took on two girls from Persona 4: Rise and Yukiko. Recently they worked on one of the Devil Survivor 2 gals, but as far as Atlus collabs go it’s been all quiet on the Eastern front for a while now. Well, that is finally changing because they just showed off fully painted sculpts of Mitsuru from 3 and Chie from 4! Sadly, both have issues: Mitsuru’s torso is twisted in a really odd way, and Chie looks oddly stiff. But Mitsuru is my absolute favorite Persona character, so I will take what I can get. I’d love to see the rest of the 3 girls: Yukari, please! [via Figsoku]

  • At this point, it’s not an event until we’ve been smothered by figures of Tsuji Santa’s bodacious babes. Soniko and Pochaco are all the rage: I was praying that Soniko-mania would die down, but with the introduction of her even fuller-figured companion, it’s only grown. It’s an out of control wildfire. There were 4 figures total of the duo at Miyazawa, an even two for each! For Soniko we’ve got Wave’s adorable Beach Queen, which is SO cute but insanely expensive (over $50 for a BQ AFTER discounts? ouch), and an announcement from X-Plus: they’re going to be making a 1/4 scale figure of her. I wonder what outfit it will be? For Pochaco, we have both Vertex’s Cowgirl and A+’s Beer Girl on display. I am so not sold on Pochaco at all, she creeps me out. [via moeyo]

  • Wave’s Beach Queen line is notorious for two things: producing figures of pretty much every character from every new anime, and terrible quality. Fans have learned not to expect great things from the line. The promo shots show us dull poses and lackluster paint, so we were all surprised when a Beach Queen Soniko was revealed with, gasp, a dynamic pose! Now she is painted, and I am having trouble accepting that this is indeed from the Beach Queen line. I mean, the paint looks great! Sure, there are weird gaps by her butt, but this is a prototype and it’ll probably be fixed on the final product. Her face looks great, and there is even a little crabby friend for her! Is this really Wave?! [via t_santa’s Twitter]

  • Why is it that whenever a Beach Queen sculpt is actually good–which, as we all know, is a pretty rare occurrence–it’s of a character I don’t like? We get Beach Queens from Devil Survivor 2, and they are awful. But of course the Kill la Kill one is perfect. I had a sinking feeling when we saw the sculpt that she would be magnificent, but now we are getting a peek at the painted version, and… ugh LOOK AT HOW PRETTY HER FACE IS. What gives, Wave?! If you are capable of this level of quality, why are 1/10ths of your figures so shitty?! It drives me insane. I don’t want Ryuuko. Or rather, I don’t want to want Ryuuko. But now I do because she’s so beautiful. And if you are a huge Kill la Kill fan she will have a second exclusive version with bonus Scissors Blade. Totally… uh, not worth it, unless you are the world’s biggest fan. [via Wave’s Blog]

  • Guys, guys. Why is this happening to me? Wonder Festival was great, then all the news after it has been totally awful stuff I hate involving terribly sculpted boobs. Oh, god, the boobs. They haunt me in my sleep. Today we have a whole lot of them, so let’s jump right in. There’s Suguha Kirigaya from Sword Art Online, a surprisingly tasteful (and dull) Ryuuko Matoi from Kill la Kill, a super boring Marika Katou (how?! Where is her pirate hat, Wave?!), and a Charlotte Dunois with inflated boobs, because apparently they just weren’t big enough in the first figure they did of her. But wait, there’s more! Hozuki Ferrari (and you know the other siblings aren’t far behind), Maho Nishizumi (wah-wah, so boring), the super creepy loli Renge Miyauchi from Non Non Biyori, and last but definitely not least Takao from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova–who, to be honest, is the only one I’m remotely interested in… but there are so many better figures of her on the horizon. Then we have announcements! We’ll be getting another Asuna, Mirai Kuriyama from Kyoukai no Kanata, and Yukina Himeragi from Strike the Blood. [via Wave’s Twitter]

  • Ah, Wave’s Beach Queen line. I’ve found a very consistent pattern that happens every time new ones are announced. I’m momentarily excited by the character reveal, and then… I see the sculpts and shake my head sadly. It’s the case again today, with three new girls I (should) be excited for but am not. At all. First we’ve got Celia Cumani Aintree from Walkure Romanze, whose scaled figures I have loved but ahhh underboob! Wave strikes again! Also that hair seam is ouch. Then we’ve got to Fate/Extra announcements: a recolor of their Saber Extra (the red sparkly suit makes her boobs look even more fake, goodness!) and Caster Extra. Okay, so, I LOVE Caster Extra. Yes yes please. But then DREADED UNDERBOOB STRIKES AGAIN. And this is really, really extreme underboob. Just why? Why? At least even without it her hair is horrid so I won’t be missing out on anything. [via Wave’s Blog]

  • Beach Queens are usually boring and predictable. Wave just snatches up any new license in sight and churns out bikini versions of the cast like there’s no tomorrow, with little focus on quality or originality. Wow, standing in a bikini! Leaning over in a bikini! Shocking and exciting! Thankfully, every once in a while we get one that stands out from the crowd. This time it’s Ranko Kanzaki from IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, and they’ve really gone all out with her! Parasol and goth gloves at the beach? A velvet choker? No, it makes zero sense, but do you really care? Look how lovely she is! [via Wave’s Blog]

  • Did you think that the OreImo hype was over? That Kotobukiya’s Sweet Lolita Ruri was the last big release we’d have from the show? (No I refuse to count the MF Wedding Kirino because it broke my heart, we don’t even talk about it. It’s dead to me) Well… you’re wrong! Cause once again, Wave is taking on the bickering duo. In case the Beach Queens and casual duo weren’t quite enough for you. This time it’s kind of a mishmash: the Kuroneko is a Beach Queen, and the Kirino is a garage kit from Tsuru no Yakata portraying Kirino as a young child (in, thankfully, a totally innocent manner). Clearly Kuroneko is NOT a kid here, so I’m not sure if they are supposed to… match? They don’t, especially since the finished Kuroneko is standing. But whatever, they’re cute. And up for order tomorrow night! [via Wave’s Blog]
