Magazine Scans: April 2013

Another month, another batch of magazine scans! Is it just me, or have scans kind of tapered off in intensity? I feel like several companies have kind of “dropped out” of the Hobby Japan scans, namely Good Smile Company & co. We really don’t get many big reveals from them anymore! There’s very little variety in that sense, and a lot of the older titles (like Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga) have no mass-produced figures at all! We do, thankfully, get some of the monsters, though mostly from FuRyu’s prize figures.

However, that doesn’t mean garage kit makers aren’t taking a crack at SMT’s expansive bestiary. While perusing mfc today, I noticed a bunch of new uploads from the series… new in the sense that we all just found out about them, since sadly most of these are from 2008-2009. In fact, the circle Chemical Reaction has made quite a few, including fan favorites like Belial, Hecate, and human Beelzebub. There’s also a kit of Mishaguji (which is why we had to slap a NSFW warning on!). While there’s pretty much no hope of owning them, it sure is fun to look at what people have come up with from my favorite game world!

[via Chemical Reaction]

(NSFW) Check Out These Older Shin Megami Tensei Garage Kits

The long-running Shin Megami Tensei series certainly gets a lot of love in the figure world, but most of it is focused on the Persona franchise.

They are the 7 princes of hell instead that are sometimes associated with the sins: Lucifer is Pride, Leviathan is Envy, Satan is Wrath, Mammon is Greed, Beelzebub is Gluttony, Belphegor is Sloth, and Asmodeus is Lust. However, Leviathan is a sea monster and Lucifer is an angel so it is a bit odd that they are all “devils”–I blame that on the confusing history of Demonology, though. They are drawn as women both busty and flat-chested which you can check out in the gallery. As you’d expect from niθ the designs are stunning, and I think these will make some killer figures.

Unlike last time, Hobby Japan is pairing up with Orchid Seed for this project. I think they are a better choice than Alter after looking at the designs, as demon girls are something Orchid is very good at (plus we get the added bonus of cast-off). The figures will most likely be a mix of regular and exclusive releases, but I know this is definitely one line I will do anything to complete!

[via the 7 Sins site]

Hobby Japan Announces 7 Sins Collaboration With Orchid Seed

A few years ago, Hobby Japan (which usually only produces exclusive figures) announced a collaboration with Alter for their Hyakka Ryouran project, which eventually led to both some stellar figures and a really tacky anime. Designs were done by the famous illustrator niθ, who is known for his elaborate outfits, and it seems like they are at it again!

Point in case: FuRyu’s third set of Shin Megami Tensei monster prize figures. They’ve tackled Thor, Shiva, Cerberus, and Lucifer in the previous two sets, but it seemed like they really pulled out all the stops for these ones!

Beelzebub and Loki are the newest monsters to hit the lineup, and they both look amazing. Beelzebub has always been one of my favorites, so it’s great to finally see a figure of this big bad! And Loki looks sleek, though I kind of miss the odd toga-underpants version of him. These should retail for about ¥1,400, and like the rest they will probably go up on AmiAmi.

I love that they are continuing this line, though I do wish they’d tackle some of the ladies or the cuter monsters. I’d really love a figure of Uzume or Parvati, and of course we could always use more Jack Frost!

[via Moeyo]
