Berserk Archive

  • Welcome to another episode of “where the hell did all these figmas come from?” It’s like Nendoroids: there are just too many to keep track of. We brought you updates on a few of the big updates (Link, Deadpool, Gwendolyn). Sadly my dream figma, the Persona 3 MC, is still in the art phase while all these other guys are being announced. Life is so hard! But there’s lots of other cool things here. Like figma Ted! Just kidding, that thing is an abomination. Speaking of abominations there’s lots of Berserk news! Also Elsa, Caster, Metal Gear Solid, SAO, Samus, Kantai Collection, IDOLM@STER, Touken Ranbu, Fate/Grand Order, One Punch Man, and so much more! Hit the jump for the full gallery (and, like the Nendo roundup, a full list of all the figmas compiled by Stephen). [via WHL4U, sakai_max, shin_1, takeix, gsc_mamitan [1 2], amiami]

  • Figmas: those tiny poseable things that Max Factory and a few other companies make a ton of every year. So without further adieu, here’s a super long list of em. • Time and time again I’ve expressed my love for Berserk here on Plastikitty; it’s one of the first anime that I got into and to this day it still has a special place in my heart. Well, boy was I surprised when I got an email from Gecco showing off a brand new 1/6th scale Guts that looks freaking amazing! I’ve been lusting after Good Smile Company’s giant Guts statue, but the price is way too much for me and the size is way too large, but Gecco’s offering is much more reasonable in both of those regards. Guts here is standing in his signature sword-on-shoulder pose and is decked out head to toe in impressively detailed weapons, armor, and clothing. I also love the bit of extra detail on the base as well as it just adds so much more to an otherwise static figure. And let’s also not forget the nice little addition of Puck hidden away in Guts’ bag! There’s also two heads included for Guts, one that’s a bit more business and one that’s a full on crazy mode, so that you can display him however you’d like. No word on a release date or price yet, but I know I definitely need to bring this guy home!

  • We already showed you Guts, the protagonist of Berserk, but what good is a show without an antagonist? Femto here, the antagonist, if you could even really call him that, is also getting the statue treatment from Good Smile Company and is just as imposing as Guts. Standing about the same size as Guts, but slightly shorter due to the lack of a giant sword, Femto is damn impressive. His base is actually the Behelit after, well, some spoilertastic things happen, and is full of naked and decaying humans and creatures, which is a nice touch. Just like Guts, I’m in love with this piece. The sculpting is phenomenal and in its unpainted form reminds me of the statues of ancient Greece. The theme is also very similar to what you’d see in those older pieces as well due to the whole pseudo-Inferno and hell theme of the base. The musculature and anatomy displayed in this pieces is bar none and I really hope that they continue the line if this is what we’ve gotten so far.

  • Oh Berserk… I have such fond memories of this series as it was one of the first shows we watched in my high school anime club and I will never forget when we all sat in the classroom with only the creepy red light in the room on watching the finale while one of the members sat in the fetal position rocking back and forth crying from the intensity. The show had such an impact on us all that we actually changed our anime club name to The Band of the Hawk since our school mascot was the Hawks. Good times. But I digress. Berserk has long been one of my all time favorite series, the art is phenomenal, the story is amazing, and the characters are so incredibly unique. Oh and Guts. And his giant sword. His giant sword is so iconic and I feel like this figure just completely embodies just how large and imposing and powerful Guts and his sword are. For comparison’s sake, Guts here stands about 8 inches or so taller than the Colossal Titan statue! The detail is also astounding to the point that internal organs have veins and the sliced open bones have marrow sculpted and painted. I would kill to own this piece, but sadly the hefty price tag, which will either be around $700-1000 due to sheer size, will most likely have to keep me away, sadly.

  • Something people have wanted for a long time, but never really were able to get, are figures of the main characters from Berserk. The Art of War figures were quite pricey as they’re polystone and when Max Factory started work on the figma line and hinted at larger scale figures, people were excited as they were hoping they’d be standard PVC and relatively reasonably priced. Well, all of those hopes and dreams just shattered today. Guts and Femto statues were announced and shown off by Max Factory and, you guessed it, they’re polystone. Don’t expect these to be cheap as both are rather large and intricate. I’m loving the detail on both and would love to add them to my collection, but the whole polystone aspect makes me second guess as they’ll be quite fragile on top of every other issue. As much as I adore Berserk, as do many others, I feel like these are going to be a hard sell. [via Wonderful Hobby Life For You’s Twitter 1 | 2]

  • Max Factory has been having something of a love affair with Guts figma versions, so it really shouldn’t be a surprise that they are now making a scaled figure of him… but considering how rare male scaled figure are, I’m still shocked! Especially since this is so big and elaborate. No boys standing around here. In fact, I think Aoba might have some competition for best male figure. Especially since there are guts on the base. On Guts’ base. Tehe. [via Good Smile Company’s Facebook]

  • Ahh, Berserk. While it’s certainly an older franchise, the reluctance of the artist to actually… you know… finish the manga makes it a perpetual source of figure inspiration. That and the new movies. However, for a long time we only had those insanely overpriced Art of War resin figures. But now that Max Factory is pumping out figmas from the franchise, I fear it will never stop–I mean, we already have three figmas of Guts! They had his armored & Hawks versions on display at Toy Fair, along with the figmas of Casca and Griffith. Then the wall ‘o announcements: Void, Sian, Conrad & Ubik will be joining the lineup as well! But where’s Puck?!

  • Well, just like Nendoroids, it seems like the Good Smile Company umbrella decided to bring a crapton of figmas as well. You may be asking why I used umbrella there, well, it seems FREEing is lending a hand to help free up Max Factory’s work load (pun intended). We already showed you all of the Kill la Kill, Kantai Collection, new Racing Miku, Idolm@ster, Nintendo, Avengers, Motoko Kusanagi, and Detective Conan figmas, but there was a lot more as well. Finally we’ve got a painted figma Archer back from the dead, two new Mikus (a Spring one and a bike one), Nagise Momoe from Madoka, a new Saber, and Chariot from more well known properties. Then we’ve got Funasshi, Hazuki Mizuhara, Nobunaga the Fool (sidebar, don’t watch this anime, it’s godawful), Sakamichi Onoda, Saori Takebi, and Uzume Uno rounding out the anime front on the lesser-known-yet-still-gets-a-figma front. Even lesser known is the man that I’ve dubbed Gourmet of Loneliness as that’s all that Google decided to spit out for a name and he was only in a small run manga from 1994-1996. Then we’ve got the Zombie figma and Ninja Slayer figmas for a good dose of some action. On the video game front there’s going to be Silent Hill figmas of Pyramid Head and Bubblehead Nurse, which both look spookily awesome. Finally, we’ve got five new Berserk figmas: Femto, Ubik, Slan, Conrad, and Void that my only memories of are that they creeped out my high school anime club so much at the end of the anime that half of my club was in tears from the WTF-ness. Oh, and then there’s a horse. Of course. [via GSC’s WonFest Page and 2chan]

  • Usually with a series or game (or manga or eroge or… whatever…), we get a deluge of figures of the female characters and then one of a male character if we’re very, very good and eat all our veggies and clean the living room. But so far, Berserk has been the exact opposite. We got one figma of Griffith, and not one, not two, but THREE of Guts. Cause… we need that many? So when we found out we’d be getting a figma of Casca, it was kind of a surprise! I mean, a girl Berserk figma. Shocking! But it’s always nice to have less sexed-up girl figmas, and Casca has pretty serious battle armor for a girl. I mean, aside from the whole “boob indents will kill you” thing. But hey, we can’t expect guys to get it all right. [via Kahotan’s Twitter]
