As you probably know, we here at Plastikitty are huge fans of Paul Shih’s work-it’s adorable, affordable, and handpainted! What more could you ask for in a resin collectible? He’s got two new releases lined up for this Friday, May 17th–both were available at Chromacon, New Zealand’s big comic event, but thankfully there are some leftovers for us non-kiwis.
First up is a sakura-themed Sushi Kaiju. We have one in the original colorway and we love him! There are only ten and these pink cuties retail for $60 a pop. Next up is a gorgeous aqua colorway of Bevil (look at that blue butt!), whose original splendid green release I sadly missed out on. But we did snag the Sunset one at NYCC! This is also a release of 10 and will be $50 each (plus shipping). They’ll go up at 1PM PST on the 17th in his online shop, so don’t be late!

We wrapped up our New York Comic Con coverage a few days ago, but of course photos weren’t the only thing that came home with me & Stephen from the convention! Loot is one of the main lures for toy fans, and NYCC certainly had exclusives to spare. Seemingly every booth in the Cultyard had several exclusives up for offer, and while we went in planning to only nab a few we ended up with more than we bargained for! So hit the jump to check out our tasty loot haul for NYCC.

I sadly missed out on the first release of Paul Shih’s amazing new Bevil figure, and have been regretting it ever since. However, we knew right from the start that there would be more colorways so I wasn’t too worried! Now we’re getting a release right in my hometown for New York Comic Con. This Sunshine colorway is a more cheerful version of the broccoli devil, though there will only be 8 of him at the show so this is definitely not a release you want to sit on. He’ll be at mph’s booth, #3313, for $60 along with the painted Junior and Ryniak’s Misfortune Cat. Not a whole lot of the NYCC exclusives have piqued my interest, but mph has a fantastic lineup this year!

Just a short while ago we got to see the sculpt for Paul Shih‘s evil little broccoli Bevil. I was in love at first sight: I mean, he’s an evil vegetable with horns and a cute little butt! Now he’s colored, and somehow even better than I imagined. The soft colors used for his face and the fade are just so nice, and really gives him that eye-catching pop you want in a resin piece. Also, that shot of him in a Bevil-sized room complete with Hollow Threat posters is just too much, it’s heart-meltingly cute!
Bevil is ready for release, and will be hitting Paul Shih’s online store on Friday June 22nd at 1PM PST. He’ll retail for $50 + shipping and this first wave comes with a mini print as well! But there are only 15 pieces, so don’t expect this devil to stick around for long. It’s hinted that there will be a lot more releases in this line, including St. Wiener the hotdog saint. I love all of Shih’s designs, but I have to admit that I think Bevil is my favorite. Then again, we haven’t seen the sculpt for the saintly hotdog yet!

Paul Shih is the master of making adorable food-based resin: if you need proof, just check out his sushi kauji! Now he’s working on a rather unlikely vegetable-based figure, Bevil the broccoli! But he’s no ordinary veggie, this little guy is pure (adorable) evil and is attempting to take over the world! He’s been in progress for a while now, and you can check out a bunch of the work in progress shots at Paul Shih’s blog. Now the sculpt is finished, and this is definitely a “must have” piece. I love his grumpy little face and tiny butt! I mean really, how can you not adore him? There will also be some evil broccoli themed prints, and this veggie army should be ready for release around the end of June.
