  • One of Kotobukiya’s NYCC teasers was of their ArtFX Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, a hotly anticipated figure. And to no one’s surprise, here he is! He’s close to 1/6 scale, so he does tower over the FemShep Bish a bit, but he looks great! The pose is very dynamic and the detail on his outfit is very true to the game design. He’s slated for a second quarter 2013 release, and perhaps he’ll come with some extra weapons as well!

  • New York Comic Con is only two days away! Plastikitty will of course be attending, so you can expect lots of news from the floor. But before the event begins, it’s time for some delicious teasers! Kotobukiya has two lined up for us today. The first is their ArtFX Commander Shepard, which has been in the works for several months now. Hopefully he’s to scale with Bishoujo Shepard, I think they could look totally amazing! Second is the newest addition to their New 52 ArtFX line, which started with Superman and Green Lantern and continued with Flash. Well, now we’re getting Aquaman! Wonder Woman was sculpted a while back, but it seems like she’s not quite ready to show off. Kotobukiya has also promised another teaser tomorrow, perhaps of a new Bishoujo? Either way, it’s gotten me excited for NYCC! [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • Welcome to a week of fabulous flying ladies! We’ve got ladies with mechanical wings, butterfly wings, even feathered wings… on their waist! In fact, we’ve also got not one but two sky-high Nendoroids. Okay, so one rides a carrot and the other has weird feet blade-wings, but there’s still an unusually high number of airborne figures this time around. Of course we’ve got some earthbound ladies as well (and one small guy). Ladies with guns, small ladies with guns, flying ladies with guns… really, it’s a week of flying ladies with guns all around (and some with swords and laces!), many of whom popped up in magazine scans. So hit the jump and check them out!

  • …and it’s not for New York Comic Con! Honestly, Female Shepard JUST got promotional shots, so I am amazed that we are getting a second colorway already. Though I think fans will be happy: this is a raven-haired version of the customizable character! So if you played black or red-haired Shep, it’s almost like a version of your character. So all we need now is blonde and brunette. This is an exclusive to Bioware’s store, and of course because it’s Bioware she will come with some DLC for the Xbox 360 and PC versions. They’re only multiplayer bonus items, but hey, who doesn’t love free DLC. You do of course have to pay for FemShep herself, though she’s only $65, the price of the regular edition. There are 2,500 pieces, so she’s sort-of-limited, and she’ll come out in March

  • This is a figure we’ve seen a lot of before–in fact we got the chance to do a similar gallery at NYCC–but as she gets closer and closer to release we get to see more of the details that will be on the final piece! This time we got a peek at her base, which will be done in the same style as Christie’s with clear inserts that you can change depending on your preference. We also got some nice shots of Liara outside of the glass case, so hit the jump to check them all out!

  • Square-Enix’s Play Arts line used to be restricted to only their own titles, but recently they’ve been branching out a whole lot. It’s no surprise then that they’ve picked up the Mass Effect license and are planning a trio from the series: Commander Shepard (male), Garrus, and Ashley, all based on their Mass Effect 3 designs. While I could do without Ashley (she’s so whiney, give me Tali!), I love Garrus and it’s great to see some nice figures of him! Hopefully they add Wrex and Tali next.

  • Back at SDCC, Kotobukiya announced that they had acquired the BioWare license and were working on new additions to several of their lines. The one I was most excited about was the new Bishoujo figures–only Liara was announced, but Shunya’s style meshed very well with the character design. The sculpt was unveiled to mixed responses, though I was confident that she would look great once finished. Well, nonbelievers, she looks great now! The issue with her face being “small” or odd-looking was clearly fixed here, and while we only have some small images it looks quite accurate to the illustration. Her bustiness is also a lot less apparent, and the details on her suit look great. She mysteriously popped up for order on Eye on Asia, but they tend to jump the gun on things so there’s no real idea when she will be going up. However, they list her as a May 2012 release which seems pretty accurate! She should retail for around the same price as all the others, so $59.99 in US shops. Like the new Marvel and DC Bishoujos, she’s listed as 1/7, so expect her to be a smidge taller than 1/8… unless she’s like Ms. Marvel, who is easily 1/6! [UPDATE] Rumor has it that these are NOT the official shots of Liara (thus why they are so small!). They are indeed of the real figure, but not of the finished prototype, which will have some adjustments made. She’ll be at NYCC, though, where Plastikitty will be in attendance, so we’ll be sure to bring you a full gallery of the real deal! [UPDATE 2] It turns out that the images of Liara were very unofficial and were not intended to be leaked, so we have taken them down. The post will remain up so that people may discuss the figure, and as soon as actual official shots come out we will be sure to post them.

  • Back at SDCC, Kotobukiya had some pretty big news–they had gotten the Mass Effect License for their Bishoujo line! There were no completed figures, only the finished art of Liara T’Soni, which looked fantastic. Now, Kotobukiya has finished sculpting her and damn does she look nice! It’s kind of hard to tell what the face will look like on an unpainted figure, but so far it looks pretty spot-on to the illustration. There are some alterations from the artwork, most notably the boob-squishing, but that’s not a change I mind as it feels very “Shunya.” The detail work on her looks fantastic, with every little seam of her suit sculpted. Kotobukiya works pretty fast, so we should be seeing her painted quite soon. That’s not all, there’s some release info for this lovely lady as well! She will retail for ¥6,200, and it’s safe to say that her US price will be around $59.99 like all of the other girls. No month was given, but this 1/7 scale alien will be coming out sometime in 2012–spring is my best guess! So, how do you feel about Liara now that she is sculpted, and which BioWare character would you like to see next? [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Kotobukiya’s signature Bishoujo figures were out in full force with quite a few new additions as well. From movies, to video games, to comics, there’s something for everyone here. First up were the continuations of the Marvel and DC Bishoujo lines with the additions of a black colorway of Batgirl and Poison Ivy for DC and Mystique, X-23, and Elektra for Marvel. The new colorway of Batgirl will be available in December for $59.99 and Poison Ivy will be available in February for $64.99, and both look quite great in person. Poison Ivy’s detailed sculpt with her many whisps of hair and tentacle plants is quite impressive in person and I can’t wait to see the final product. On the Marvel end of things, Elektra will be coming out late this year with X-23 and Mystique to follow early next year, and all 3 have a retail price of $59.99. I really love the way that Mystique and X-23 have been captured in these sculpts; the character’s personalities as well as Shunya Yamashita’s unique style really shine through and really work well together. Next up were the new announcements of video game bishoujo figures with the announcement of a Tekken line and a Mass Effect 3 Liara. The Tekken line, which had been revealed a few weeks ago, so far contains Christie Monteiro and Alisa Bosconovitch from Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and will begin releasing with Christie at the end of the year and Alisa shortly after early next year. Having now seen Christie in person, the few changes made to her outfit really don’t detract from her character at all and the detailing on the back of her shirt is really stunning in person. Sitting next to this announcement was the shocker of Liara from Mass Effect 3, which is about as far from a Japanese game franchise as one could get. Liara will be the first in a series of figures and was only shown off in concept art, but from what we were shown, I can’t wait to see the final sculpt, which should be soon as she’s set to be released before the end of the year. Last and not least, the movie bishoujo line has not been forgotten. While there were no new announcements on hand at Comic Con, the recently released Ghostbusters Lucy was on hand as well as confirmation that the next series that will get a release is Star Wars. Be sure to hit the jump to check out all of the bishoujos on hand at the Kotobukiya booth at San Diego Comic Con 2011 and leave your thoughts in a comment about what other bishoujos you’d like to see!
