Black Butler Archive

  • Kotobukiya’s action figure Cu-Poche line has been booming lately. It seems like only yesterday that we were photographing the Dark Magician Girl Cu-Poche, but it was almost 4 years ago! Time sure flies when you’re getting old, amirite? Today we are looking at Sebastian from Black Butler, everyone’s favorite demon housekeeper. Sebastian is one of those few male characters who manages to cling onto popularity long after his first hit the figure scene. In fact, Koto even did a scaled figure of him a short while back! But how will this handsome lil devil hold up in chibi form? Hit the jump and let’s find out!

  • While Kotobukiya’s Toy Fair booth is mostly focused on US-centric licenses like comic and movie toys (the new anime reveals are saved for Wonder Festival), they always bring a few on over for us. And, unsurprisingly, they’re mostly from shows that are popular here like Cowboy Bebop, Black Butler, Code Geass, and Cardcaptor Sakura. My favorite, though, was the gorgeous Charlotta from Granblue Fantasy. She’s so detailed but so tiny and cute! And the ruffles. So many of my favorite things.

  • We have seen two of Kotobukiya’s most exciting Wonder Festival announcements (new Pokemon and Cowboy Bebop), but I don’t think anything could prepare me for the exciting boy-figure-flood that was about to happen. Not only did they have Spike on display and their sculpted Atem, but we’re getting a brand new Lelouch from Code Black!! Thank you figure Jesus. We are blessed this day. And that’s not all (obviously)! So much new stuff, like an adorable Madoka, High School Fleet figures, Type-Moon’s Heroine X, a bunny-tastic Airi Totoki, Sebastian Cu-Poche, and a sculpted Velvet Crowe. We also have a few announcements! They’ll be doing another Tony Taka butterfly sister (who looks suspiciously like Miku), Vira from Granblue Fantasy, and RyuuZU from Clockwork Planet. • Aniplex: aka “that stuff you want that will cost a small fortune.” Because Aniplex = exclusive! Not that it’ll stop me from getting the gorgeous Your Lie In April figure with a cat. A CAT. Kaori was the star of the show for me but they had lots more: two Sabers, tons of Saenai Heroine (including… a 1/1 scale fig you can buy for the low low price of like $1,700), Bakemonogatari, and some truly adorable Fate/Stay Night chibis. • Animate Girls Festival seems like it’d be an event dedicated to female figures (so, you know, basically every other event). But no, it’s an event… for girls! Who like dude figures. So today we’re bringing you some manly (and less manly) men. Including, most importantly, our header figure: based Alter finally made a dynamic guy! Thank you, figure Jesus, for this figure of Durarara’s Izaya Orihara. The rest of it was basically all the Touken Ranbu. Max Factory/Orange Rouge’s Mikazuki Munechika and Tsurumaru Kuninaga are painted, and we have the sculpt for Kotobukiya’s Hotarumaru is sculpted (and SO adorable). There was a lot of Nendo stuff going on: the announcements for Hotarumaru and Doutanuki Masakuni were out, Ichigo Hitofuri is painted, and Yagen Toushirou is sculpted. Aniplex’s amazing Ciel, Toy’s Works’ Sousuke Yamazaki from Free!, and Nendoroid Clear all showed up too. [via whitenoize & Orange Rouge]

  • We’ve seen a lot from Kotobukiya this NYCC: DC, Marvel, Star Wars, some new announcements and a whole lot of up-close galleries. But Kotobukiya is primarily a PVC manufacturing company, so there were a lot of anime & manga related girls and guys on display as well! Their Hestia was obviously there (though without her alternate face), along with Ken Kaneki, the Black Butler line, the video game Bishoujos, Trigun, Halo, Alien… and their new Saber. I have to say, in press photos she really didn’t impress me (another standing Saber!) but in person? True love. The sculpt is so crisp, and I’m really tempted to place an order now.

  • When Aniplex announced that they’d be making a figure of Ciel in full fancy dress, I think we were all a little excited. I mean, Black Butler fans have been jilted by the figure market for a long time, and finally we’re getting so many Ciels & Sebastians! But I think this might be the crown jewel of them all. The sculpt is amazing, the pose is amazing, it’s just… it’s going to be an exclusive, so I’m trying to keep my excitement reigned in. But really. Just gorgeous. [via Whitenoize’s Twitter]

  • I am definitely not used to this new magazine scan format. Sure, it’s nice to have them back, but I miss when they actually had, you know, news. Pickings are slim now, even though we do get quite a bit of material. And this month, like the past few, features basically MegaHouse and like 2 pages of non-MegaHouse. There’s their new Digimon figures, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon.. the usual, stuff we already knew about. But we do have some news! There’s going to be a new Hyakka Ryouran figure, this time of a bride-like Jubei (and probably manufactured by Alter). We also have some pages from Union Creative featuring their expansive line of guy figures: new on the scene are Sebastian and Ciel. [via takezo1101 & Union Creative]

  • Ahh, Black Butler. One of the most popular US anime/manga franchises, but not one that I was ever really invested in. Black Butler is the domain of those girls who practically live in the manga section of Barnes & Nobles, and will talk to you for hours about who they ship Sebby with. You all know what I’m talking about. Okay, maybe that’s not a thing anymore, but it was when I was in highschool! *shakes fist at sky* While I was never a huge fan, I’ve always liked the designs: there are so few guys who aren’t “stereotypical highschool boy with boring outfit* in anime, let alone a… *gasp* “older” one like Sebastian! I mean, he’s a demon butler. What’s not to like? And like so many older series, the license on this has recently been required by a ton of companies, finally filling the BB-sized hole in so many fangirls’ hearts. Sadly, most of the Sebastian figures are super boring (look, he’s… standing there again!) but Koto gave us one with a cool base! And I am all about cool bases, so let’s hit the jump and get this party started.

Of course the star of the show has to be their new IDOLM@STER girl Kanaki Mimura, just on the virtue of this being her first time out on display. And Anzu was there with her too, of course! The newly painted Ken made an appearance, along with another boy: Grell! Then there’s Kantai Collection, of course. Inazuma and Ikazuchi were there both in scaled and Cu-Poche form. Check them out in the gallery! [via Dengeki]
