  • It’s been a long time coming (or at least it seems like it). And it has been two years since the announcement, so actually it has been a long time! That’s like a decade in the figure world. I’m a huge Yu-Gi-Oh fan, as you all know by now, so of course I’ve been waiting (im)patiently for the whole time. Though, you know, we kind of have enough DMG. But hey, this one is poseable! And, unlike Yugi, she actually has quite a few accessories. The staff, of course, a cool magic attack effect, her magic book, and some really cute faces. The attention to detail looks great, and in some of the close-up shots she actually looks like a scaled figure! Orders open tonight. I wonder who we’re going to get after Kaiba? Maybe some Toon versions of monsters…that would be amazing. [via the figma blog]

  • After a very long wait, it’s finally time for Max Factory’s Yu-Gi-Oh figures to make their way onto your pre-order list! It really feels like ages, but it hasn’t been that long at all. I just want them so bad that it feels like ages! It seems like both the Dark Magician Girl statue and Yami Yugi figma will be going up at the same time, unsurprisingly–tomorrow, to be exact! I have to say, I’m kind of disappointed in both of them. Dark Magician Girl looks nowhere near as good here as when we saw her in person–in fact, if I hadn’t seen her at NYCC, I wouldn’t want to order this figure at all. And Yugi has, like, no accessories. What the hell! So much potential wasted! But we just get some cards, a duel deck, and 3 very similar faces. Boo. [via the figma blog]

  • Miyazawa Model Exhibition is one of those “in-between” events. Nestled right in the middle of Summer WonFest and Fall MegaHobby, it’s a chance for companies to… not really show off much new. Let’s be honest, they save the big stuff for the big event, so we don’t get a ton of news from Miyazawa. But Good Smile Company & co brought, like, literally everything they’re working on (that we know about). Just a TON of stuff. Most of it was things we knew about, but we do have some updates: their lovely Felia is finally painted (and, well, no as pretty as I expected), Nendoroid Sheeda from Fire Emblem is finished, figma Yugi showed up, and basically we got a ton of other paint updates. The star of the show was definitely Mebae Miku: hopefully her orders open soon! [via Akibahobby]

  • Need more Yu-Gi-Oh after our Yami Yugi figma gallery? Not to fear! As you may know, Good Smile Company brought Max Factory’s Dark Magician Girl to NYCC as well! So of course we had to take her out of the case and get a closer look. I was originally not on board with the color palette, but it’s definitely been growing on me. The pastels fit the original card art, and in person it’s not quite as washed out as those first pictures. And the base is so cute! Hopefully she’s not an exclusive.

  • It’s been a good week for Yu-Gi-Oh news! First we found out that Kotobukiya would be making a new Dark Magician Girl figure, and now Max Factory’s version of her is painted. I have to say that I was super hyped after we got the sculpt: I mean, it’s Max Factory, so I was expecting killer quality and lots of details. I was hoping for something that would totally blow me away. Well, she’s here and… I’m not particularly thrilled with how she came out. The paint looks vaguely metallic and cheap: it lacks the shading and detail Max Factory is known for. Also, the colors aren’t nearly bright enough! At least I have the old Kotobukiya one and the new version to look forward to… [via moeyo]

  • Dark Magician Girl has been pretty popular lately, with figures and figmas alike, but the very first nice scaled figure of her was made by Kotobukiya quite a few years ago. It was the first of their Yu-Gi-Oh line, which funnily enough went on to include only male characters from that point onward. But with the recent explosion in her popularity, I guess it was only a matter of time before they revisited the character! This time we’ll be getting her in a more animated pose, which I think fans will like–though of course I was a big fan of the original kneeling one. It’s safe to assume she’ll be 1/7 scale to fit with the rest of the line. I wonder if they’ll do any more of the girls? Maybe Mai? Or even more monsters?! [via Figure/GK]

  • Dark Magician Girl from Yu-Gi-Oh sure is popular recently, huh? Two scaled figures, one from Amakuni and one from Max Factory, along with a figma. And, of course, there’s the original Kotobukiya figure of her and their Cu-Poche. It’s a good time to be a Yu-Gi-Oh fan, isn’t it? While I like Max Factory’s sculpt, I’ve been most excited for the Amakuni verion–mostly because it’s sculpted by my figure bae, Grizzry Panda. And oh my GOD she looks so good. Bright colors, sleek sculpting, and that base. Though honestly, I’m not loving the little (toon?) DMG at the bottom. Pre-orders start on May 25th and run until July 10th though of course she will be exclusive, so you will need a proxy/to order from their international store/etc. And her price? A not-so-scary ¥12,800, which does not seem that bad given her base, even if she is only 1/8. [via figure/gk]

  • A large chunk of Amakuni’s goodies at MegaHobby were already covered in the Seven Sins post, but of course they’ve got more to show us! They went from a small-time, kind of crappy quality producer to a rather large one so quickly, and I’m actually excited for most of these releases. We’ve got some brand-new stuff: mainly the announcement of a Dark Magician Girl figure, sculpted by Grizzry Panda. YES. Their Dark Schneider from Bastard!! is painted, and looks pretty freaking awesome. Then we’ve got the two KanColle girls who were just in scans, Amatsukaze and Haruna Kai Ni, though only Amatsukaze is sculpted. And finally we have the sculpt for their Maou from Maoyuu Maou Yuusha: I haven’t liked any of her figures so far but this one is ADORABLE. Of course, everything Amakuni is exclusive… [via Ykosge’s Twitter & Hobby Search’s Blog]

  • Good Smile used to be pretty much the king of the scaled figure world, but with the focus shifting more and more to Nendoroids they seem to be making less and less scaled PVC. But, of course, they haven’t cut it all out! We have lots of goodies to show you, besides the Levi and Mikus we’ve already featured. There’s some Madoka goodies: art for the Momoe Nagisa figure, and a new Homura to go with their recent art-style Madoka! There’s more of the Saber Sakura sculpt, a kickass new Ryuuko Matoi and the announcement for a matching (possibly?) Satsuki, the sculpt for their bikini Soniko, the creepy Terra Formars girl, and the announcement of Niko Yazawa from Love Live! [UPDATE] Added Sawamura Supensaa Eriri from Saenai hiroin no Sodatekata. What a long name. [UPDATE 2] Added a sculpt for Kurumi Tokisaki (Kurumi is from AlphaMax, sorry for the confusion!) and the announcement for.. brace yourselves… DARK MAGICIAN GIRL. [via whl4u]
