Boku wa Tomodachi Archive

  • It has been two years since ques Q first showed off their design for Boku wa Tomodachi‘s Sena in her blacksmith outfit. And then… nothing! The sculpt went into one of those weird limbos, and I was pretty sure we’d never see her again. Thankfully I was wrong, and they dug her out of whatever closet she was hiding in, painted her, and have prepared this cutie for orders. Sadly, this is one of those situations where time is not your friend. I was all about this sculpt when it first rolled out, but now? Not so much. The breast sculpt is just… no thank you, and there’s so little detail in the outfit, her hair, and the hammer. Sure, she has a nice butt, but is it worth ¥12,500? Because that’s how much she will cost you. Ouch. [via ques Q]

  • So technically this is not really a Christmas recolor. But it is Christmas Eve (Christmas proper in Japan!) and she is in Santa red so it’s a Christmas figure. At least for tonight. We just found out this morning that Kotobukiya will be doing a recolor of their darling Kobato Hasegawa, a prospect I’d be excited about if it was pretty much any other color than red. Well, that’s a blatant lie–kelly green, orange, or poop brown would be worse. But in my head I see her in soft pink or a daring orchid and sob internally. However, this “Noble Blood of Night” version will be a Winter Wonder Festival exclusive, so it’s not like most of us will have an opportunity to buy her anyway! [via Kotobukiya]

Get In The Christmas Spirit With Kotobukiya’s Kobato Recolor

  • Merry Christmas Eve, Plastikitties! Of course magazine scans decided to drop on one of the busiest days of the year–usually we get them on the 21st or 22nd, but this year Japan decided “hey, let’s wait until those crazy Americans are actually doing something!” So this month we are keeping it short and sweet. This is an action packed bunch of scans: MegaHouse has their Dragon’s Crown Sorceress sculpted, release info for their Amazon, and more IDOLM@STER goodies (of course). AlphaMax has a surprise sculpt of Saber Bride that looks amazing! Hyakka Ryouran has a ton of figures in these scans: Inshun Houzouin from Alter, Mataemon Araki from Kaitendoh, and a painted Naoe from New Line. Clayz is bringing a Takeshi Miyagawi Ymir sculpt to PVC (FINALLY!), and MegaHouse’s new Liliana is painted. Amakuni is redoing their Noel (again), this time with a tweaked sculpt, and their Shimakaze is done too. The Seven Sins Satan is… still just a sculpt, and the second Asmodeus is here in more detail. We’ve also got a repaint of Koto’s Kobato, which I am honestly not feeling at all. On the Tony Taka front, swimsuit Nellis is sculpted and looking amazing, and the AlphaMax Viola is painted (and I’m in love!). We’ve got lots of Nendos and the Snow Miku figma, Fairy Tail’s Erza Scarlet, and FREEing has their yukata Tamaki and Inori painted. And last but not least, Alter’s Hayate and Max Factory’s Cerberus make appearances. Phew, that’s a lot of stuff! Check them all out in the gallery. [via Figure/GK]

  • Treasure Festa is always bursting at the seams with garage kits, but this event seems particularly bountiful. There was a whole lot going on, and lots of delicious goodies on display, including a few kits we have featured on the site recently: Lisasays’ Beethoven, Sakura Zensen’s Saber Bride, Grizzry Panda’s Madoka & Homura, and Iousen’s Soniko. There were also all the usual suspects: lots of Miku Hatsune, Infinite Stratos, Touhou Project, Madoka (the swimsuit Mami is divinely hilarious), Vividred Operation, Type-Moon, PreCure, Sword Art Online. For me, the standouts were the original character in the header, whose sculpt is so pretty I’d probably kill a few puppies for a PVC release. I mean… she’s stunning! Then there’s the Sakura & Tomoyo duo which is too cute for words, and the awesome Panty Anarchy. Of course we’ve got funny ones too: the amazingly bad Dragon’s Crown girls stand out the most to me. • Gift is very selective about the figure sculpts they take on. They produce a handful of figures a year, and it’s always an odd mix: super stylized things like King Arthur or Toda’s Homura, and then giant bikini babes. Yeah, strange to say the least. Their newest addition to the swimsuit line? Sena Kashiwazaki from Haganai. She reminds me very strongly of their Tamaki, only with a derpy face. It’s like… almost Sena, but not quite right. Let’s hope it turns out better with paint! And speaking of their swimsuit figures, I see a big Soniko on their horizon… [note: also in the gallery are Gift’s trio of Fate, Nanoha & Hayate loli 1/4 scale figures and their 1/7 Houki Shinonono] [via Akibahobby]

  • Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t hate Griffon. Yes, many of their figures are laughbly derpy and they screw up pretty often. But every once in a while they get it totally right: I dare you to look at their Ellis and tell me she sucks in any way. So open your mind up just a little, because they had a sculpt or two at WonFest that were totally awesome! Mainly the whooshy girl from Vividred Operation that looks like KOS-MOS (what’s up with that?) who I kind of need right now. Their kitty Kirino is also painfully cute, though they are doing a standing version of her that doesn’t look so hot. And their Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi line looks promising: Aoi Mukou has pink hair and is holding a cat, which I totally cannot resist, and they announced a matching Sone Miyuki. They also had sculpts for Yukimura Kusunoki, Asuka, Nyaruko, Haruka Kotoura and Benkei Musashibou, though only the latter caught my attention. As for announcements… they had plenty! They’ll be doing Saber again (the last time she was topless!), along with the Rozen Maiden dolls. We also have Shimakaze from Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ (AGAIN oh my godd why is she so popular), Himawari Shinomiya in a swimsuit, Tsukiko & Tsukushi Tsutsukakushi (also in swimsuits), and lastly Yozora Mikazuki in a witch outfit (which I am very excited for–matching Sena please!) • It was only a little over a year ago that Max Factory put up for order their adorable (and controversial) Haganai duo of Maria & Kobato in kitty outfits. They’re at it again, though this time the age of the (imaginary & fictional) girls is a bit clearer so there won’t be any uhh imaginary ethical plastic figure girl issues to ponder. That’s right, we are getting kitty Sena & Yozora! The colors aren’t really working for me: I’d like to see Sena in pink and Yozora in black, but I’ll take what I can get. Also, why no long hair Yozora. ;~; So far, definitely liking the first set more. [via fc2]

  • We tend to focus on PVC coverage during Wonder Festival because, well… those are the things most of us can buy! But really, there are about ten times as many garage kits at the event as pre-painted PVC. Actually… that might be underestimating it, the garage kit area is HUGE! We’ve already shown you some of the kits that will be at the event like Purple Heart, Yagyuu Toshiyuki’s Marisa Kirisame, an acrobatic Saber Bride, chibi Saber Lily, Toda Satoshi’s terrifying Passionlip, and Coneckers’ Momiji. But of course there are a ton more, and we’ve got some really lovely kits this time around. My personal favorites are Vispo’s astonishing Jeanne d’Arc & her horse–though Jeanne seems very popular this WonFest!–, the bathing suit IDOLM@STER trio, the gory Labrys, and Atelier Hiro’s punk rock Miku Hatsune. And my oh my do we have a lot of Mikus. Chec them all out (and plenty more) in the gallery! • Recently the Nendoroid line has been feeling a little… stale. I mean, after 300 characters it’s kind of hard to keep it interesting with every single release. And like the figma line, some releases have been lacking in the accessory department. But there’s one anime whose Nendoroids have been consistently awesome: Boku wa Tomodachi. Yozora came with amazing items, Sena has one of my favorite faces, and Kobato is just… the cutest ever. They announced Maria at Wonder Festival, but does she live up to the hype of the first 3? Well she doesn’t top Kobato, but come on, who could? She is pretty awesome though, with the outfit being the high point for me: now all your Nendos can do nun cosplay! How amazing is that? She comes with 3 faces: adorably happy, adorably angry, and adorably blissful, along with some potato chips, a bento box, chopsticks, and a sitting body to match Kobato. She goes up for order on the 17th, and I’m a bit sad that this probably means the end of the Haganai line. They’re all so perfect! [via Mikatan]

  • There are a massive amount of figure-related events in Japan. Usually we cover the big ones that involve PVC: Wonder Festival, Comiket, MegaHobby, Tamashii Nations, et cetera. But of course the garage kit community probably puts out ten times as much as the PVC world, they are just a lot harder to get! The most recent gk event will be Treasure Festa in Ariake 9, which takes place on May 5th–yes, only a few days away! So today we’re bringing you a roundup of some of the best kits that will be at the event, complete with the circle’s name in case you are lucky enough to be at the event and have the money and speed to snag one. My favorites are the adorable Yagyu from Senran Kagura and Atelier Hiro’s graceful Miku, but there’s a whole lot more–even a Kaito and an awesome Shin Megami kit with both Jack Frost and Pyro Jack! Check them all out after the jump. [via fg-site, Moonlighter, Mr. Surprise, T’s System, Pink Panders, Glemo, ooxoo]
