  • When I did the Yoko Kurama review, I mentioned a little assistant. A little furry assistant who did not so much “assist” as he did “get in the way and shove the figure over at every given opportunity.” Because, you know, that’s just how cats roll. What is this thing? Is it mine? Why are you paying attention to it? Can it pet me? Let me rub up against it! Look it fell over! Let’s do it again! Whenever I shoot outdoors the kitties invariably get in the way. This time it was Sam, like it usually is–he is my cat, after all, and though he can be annoying as heck he’s just SO CUTE look at his smiley little face how can you not love him? So I may or may not have taken a break from the shoot for cat pictures. Possibly. You can find out in the gallery!

  • Do you look around at your life and think, “man, this would be so much better with more grumpy felines.” Because I do. Every day. Of course there’s the one and only Grumpy Cat to fill that hole for us: first she (yes, Tard is a she) got some cute plushes, and now… actual figures! Minifigs that look like they might be blind boxed. But I don’t really care how they sell them because I am literally addicted to plastic kitties. I got 3 in the mail today… For those of you who are thinking, “Wow, Leah, why so many memes on the site?! You are literally the worst ever” 1) get out of here, these are adorable and 2) there are many other grumpy kitty options! May I suggest the Angry Cat plush, Kornekohone, or Maddy? Wait, she’s not for sale… [via Grumpy Cat’s Twitter]

  • Much to my chagrin, we have so far not had a single reason to feature Grumpy Cat on the site. In fact, we don’t get to feature any famous cats. No Lil Bub, no Colonel Meow. It’s devastating, truly. Though if you follow us on Instagram you will get to see some of our (not so famous) kitties! However, that is all about to change. That’s right, the universe will never be the same. Grumpy Cat, aka Tard, aka Tardar Sauce, is getting… a plush. Actually two. There’s one that is more realistic, and a more cartoony version. Both are in production and will be available soon! I’m sure most people think Grumpy Cat has been milked beyond belief (literally, I mean she has coffee drinks…), and I do agree on some level, but come on. GRUMPY PLUSH. I kind of need both right now. • It seems I am literally incapable of doing an outdoor shoot at my house and not taking pictures of my cats. Seriously, it’s like an addiction. If there was a cat picture rehab, I’d totally be eligible–but I wouldn’t go, because the world needs more cat pictures. Always. This time it’s three for the price of one: Samkin, my squishy baby who usually hogs all the attention, and his two siblings: Maddy, the teeny gray girl kitty, and Cornelius, the adorably stupid butterscotch weirdo. Okay, so there’s only like two shots of Maddy, but she seriously will not stay still for photos. She’s a terrible model. I’m sorry Maddy, you are NOT going to be America’s Top Kitty Model.

  • My cats tend to get in the way when I’m taking photos. A lot. You know how cats are: they want attention at the most inopportune of times, and they can somehow sense when that attention is directed at something else. Like, oh, the figure you are trying to take pictures of. But one loo at a fluffy little face and your heart melts: how can you be mad at a silly furball? Samkin, the official Plastikitty mascot, seems most intent to butt his head (literally) into the camera. However, cats are awesome photography subjects… even if you do get distracted and end up running around after then for 15 minutes and totally forget your review. But look at his happy little face. Look at it! How am I supposed to resist the lure of Sam?!

  • We have featured my kitties on the site here before–quite a bit, in fact! They tend to get in the way during outdoor review shoots at my house, and Sam even got his own post. Sam has two siblings: Cornelius (or Corny, because he’s way too stupid for such a dignified name) and Madeline (Maddy). I handraised them from ten days old because their mom tried to eat them (long story), so they’re very close! And I realized Maddy hadn’t really been on the site, which of course had to be fixed. I managed to catch her sneak-attacking (aka putting her fat butt on) Corny while he was tucked in like a little human, and how I could I resist the photo opportunity? Even though it was super late at night. (I may or may not be a crazy cat lady in training). So check out these two cuties in the gallery, and expect Samkin to get his own feature very soon!

  • Grumpy, annoyed cats seem to be all the rage nowadays–which is a-okay with me, since I happen to be a big fan of them myself. I even have a real live one (who is the basis for our mascot!). And if something is in style, you know what that means: toys! Merchandise! …SQUISHY GRUMPY PLUSHES! This one is brought to us by the illustrator Amanda Coronado, who happens to be a longtime Plastikitty fan <3 She has a Kickstarter running for Angry Cat, the cutest attitude-filled kitty plush this side of the ocean (because Japan does put up some stiff competition!). You can pledge anything from $1 to $1,000 and there are all sorts of rewards: cute stickers, pins, the plush himself (of course!), and even some original artwork! I have my eyes on the $45 Pawsitively Purrfect pack because I am SUCH a sucker for stickers and cats and everything both cute and grumpy.

  • You may have noticed that here at Plastikitty, we really like cats. Like, a whole lot. After all, we are Plastikitty. Our mascot is actually based on a real life animal: my cat Samkin, who is indeed pink! Not hot pink: he’s a champagne tabby, so he’s a soft, washed out sort of pink. I’ve had him since he was ten days old: his mom tried to eat him (true story!) and I ended up handraising him and two of his siblings who are bound to pop up on the site sooner or later. You probably picked up on the fact that I absolutely cannot resist taking pictures of Sam if he appears in the middle of a figure photoshoot, like he did with Asuna and Kitty Pryde. I ended up with quite a few shots that I just couldn’t rationalize sticking in the middle of a review, so they get their own post! Action shots of Sam hunting a squirrel! So sit back, relax, and coo over how cute he is. So ferocious! Go get that squirrel, Sam!
