  • Well, tonight’s a big night for Star Wars fans with the Episode VIII trailer coming out during Monday Night Football, but that said, we can’t forget about the movies that have already come out before it and the merchandise from those! Kotobukiya brought the whole lot of their Episode VII: The Force Awakens ArtFX+ figures including the new and amazing First Order Stormtrooper FN-2199 that comes with a blaster and whatever the electro thing is that he used in his fight with Finn. There were also some new additions to the original trilogy line namely, a Return of the Jedi Luke to go with the Darth Vader that is already released (and seen with Luke, that’s not a new figure for those wondering), and also a new standing Emperor Palpatine and Imperial Guard set. I’m personally loving the Luke and Vader together as it recreates quite an iconic moment in the series and I’m also loving both Palpatine figures who would be great for randomly placing around your house to scare others. Check out the gallery below and expect even more of an onslaught of figures come next year after Episode VIII is out.

  • Of all the licenses that Kotobukiya tackled at their panel, Star Wars definitely had the most news and new merchandise. They’ve always done a lot with the franchise, but given that we have new, actually good movies I guess it’s not really a shock that we’re not getting bombarded with it! There’s a lot to cover so let’s jump right in. We got the rough concept sculpts for the Finn & Rey ArtFX+, along with an announcement for Poe & BB-8 and Chewbacca and Han!. They also had the sculpt for the Obi-Wan ArtFX+, along with the tragically hilarious news that he will come with an empty cape to display if you prefer Dead-Kenobi. They had quite a few new troopers: thew Snowtrooper & Flametrooper 2 pack, FN-2199, Scarif Stormtrooper, Death Trooper 2-pack, and a Death Trooper ArtFX. They will also be expanding the Droid line with R4 and R5 sculpts!

  • If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that Kotobukiya will have some new Star Wars merchandise up their sleeves at almost every major event. It’s one of their oldest licenses, and given how much content it holds (plus all the content we’re going to be getting with the new movies) it’s no surprise that they’ve found endless variations of Stormtroopers I had no idea existed. I’ll admit I’m a Star Trek girl, not Star Wars. Because anthropologists in space is simply the greatest. Anyway, Kotobukiya had two new sets on display at Toy Fair! The first is an ArtFX+ Snowtrooper, which will most likely come in a set like all the other Troopers. Then we have R3-A2 and K-3PO, who will be hitting shelves in April. Some of the Bishoujos made an appearance too, so check them out in the gallery!

  • One of Kotobukiya’s biggest announcements at this past NYCC was of ArtFX+ for Star Wars: A New Hope. While it wasn’t the most shocking of announcements, given that they already had the license for their Bishoujo line in the form of Jaina and Mara, it was still fantastic news for fans! High quality, small, affordable figures–what more can you want? We got a look at the rough sculpt for Han Solo at the panel, but we got to take him and Chewie out at Toy Fair! I am a Star Trek girl through and through so these are not really my jam, but that said I am in love with the sculpt for Chewbacca’s fur. It looks so soft! I want to pet him. Of course you’re really not supposed to fiddle around with prototypes, so I refrained from that. Mostly. Just kidding! You can check out a full view of both in the gallery.

  • The big new reveal in regards to the Star Wars universe at Kotobukiya’s booth were the sculpts for their Han Solo and Chewbacca ArtFX+. Well… sort of reveal. We first saw Han Solo back at New York Comic Con during Kotobukiya’s panel for like half a second, so I guess this is the first time anyone has seen them in person. That being said, both Han and Chewie look awesome in person! Both feature sections that will be in cloth/fake leather/etc in their final forms and will move with the figures. Chewie has a ton of well sculpted fur and Han looks exactly like Harrison Ford. I can’t believe just how amazing these two came out and I can’t wait to see Luke and Leia in the future.

  • Star Wars ArtFX figures are nothing new for Kotobukiya, rather, it’s the exact opposite, I can’t think of ArtFX without thinking of Star Wars, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for new figures in the line. At Kotobukiya’s panel they revealed that they will be doing 1/10th scale ArtFX+ figures from Star Wars: A New Hope in two different two packs: Han Solo and Chewbacca and Luke and Leia. We also got a quick sneak peek of Han Solo’s sculpt, which looks quite great so far! Check them all out in the gallery below!

  • The first time Stephen and I did any in-person event coverage it was Toy Fair 2009, and our first booth was Kotobukiya’s. Back then their only Star Wars merchandise was their awesome lightsaber chopsticks: while those are still in production, they’ve come a long way! This year at SDCC they had a staggering number of figures from the franchise. Everything from pretty girls to monsters! They had the full art for Mara Jade’s Bishoujo along with Jaina Solo (review)–I wonder how long it will take Mara to get sculpted? They had some of their older statues, like the amazing Darth Maul, and they also premiered their NYCC 2013 exclusive: R2-Q5! D’aww, evil robots. Last but most definitely not least is the announcement of several A New Hope ArtFX+ figures: Luke, Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca! [Pictures courtesy of our lovely SDCC corespondent, Missy!]
