Chun-Li Archive

  • she T H I C C I will admit, when I first saw the art for the new Chun-Li Bishoujo I wasn’t 100% sold, mainly because the long hair was distracting. Where’s the cute buns? But once we saw the sculpt I was sold. I mean, just look at those thighs. Those are the thighs of a girl who will kick your ass and make you say “thank you” after. As usual, the Bishoujo line moved pretty fast and she is now fully painted & up for order. She’ll run you a low ¥8,500, and with a January release date you won’t even have long to wait! I do hope we get some event-exclusive colorways because I think her outfit has a lot of potential in a wide array of designs and colors. Pre-Order At: AmiAmi | Big In Japan | HLJ | Hobby Search

  • We’ve known for a while now that Kotobukiya would be doing a second version of Bishoujo Chun-Li, and I think most of us expected her to pop up at San Diego Comic Con. What I didn’t expect was two Bishes at once from the oft-neglected Street Fighter line: they have a new Cammy as well! It makes sense since these two were released quite close together in their original versions, and it’s kind of amazing to see how far the line has come since then. There is so much more detail here! Those thighs on Chun-Li, man, they’re something else. [via Kotobukiya JP]

  • I’m going to be honest: when Kotobukiya announced a version 2 Chun-Li Bishoujo, I wasn’t exactly over the moon. I like the first one well enough, and do we really need another of her when there are so many awesome Street Fighter ladies waiting in the wings? Survey says… maybe we do! I actually like this art a lot more than I thought I would. I mean, I don’t understand how anyone could fight with their boobs flopping all over the place (the pain), but I love how ripped she looks. Talk about thighs that could crush your head! Plus the long hair shockingly suits her. What do you Plastikitties think? [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook, thanks to Stuart Campbell for the heads up~]

  • Was one Chun-Li Bishoujo not enough for you? Well never fear, because a version two is on the way! And this time she has long, flowing hair (or possibly up in a ponytail?). I don’t think I’ve ever seen Chun without her signature buns, so this should be interesting. Plus this is her ‘battle costume’ aka the SFV Premium Outfit. While I’m not surprised that Chun-Li is getting more attention given her popularity, I wonder if we will see new girls in the line next? [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • What is up with all the ridiculously long-winded anime names we’ve been getting recently? Today it’s Tokurei Sochi Dantai Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C3-bu (translates to Stella Women’s Academy, High School Division Class C3, better known as C3-Bu). This manga/anime has been pretty much overlooked in the figure world–it aired in 2013, and all we’ve gotten is one Beach Queen and 2 prize figures. But that’s changing now, because Embrace Japan just showed off a sculpt of Karila Hatsuse who looks super freaking adorable. Oh, and that’s not all… there’s also an announcement for Chun-Li! Embrace has really been picking up the production pace recently, I wonder what her sculpt will look like? [via Akibahobby]

  • Kotobukiya had a lot going on at Wonder Festival, and as we all know the pictures that come out the fastest during an event usually aren’t the best. Because we want to get everything up in a timely fashion the sacrifice for speed over quality is just part of the news game, but it’s nice to have a closer, detailed look at the figures once the dust has settled! We’ve got all of Koto’s Shining World/Tony Taka girls in the gallery (of course), along with a bevel of swimsuit-clad beauties and, of course, the amazing Black Butler duo. So check them out after the jump! [via Akibahobby]

  • I am a firm believer in the fact that everything is better if you make it pink. Cats? Better pink. Hummers? Better pink. Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo Chun-Li? Better pink! It was a totally out of the blue announcement at SDCC, but I found myself pretty excited for it–which is rather amusing, because I’m far from a huge fan of hers. But she’s just so… pink! It makes her look so cheerful and happy. Like she’s going to completely wreck your face into a horrible mimicry of what a human should look like, but she’ll be bubbly as hell while doing it. I mean, if you *have* to have someone breaking all your bones, wouldn’t you rather have pink Chun-Li do it than blue Chun-Li? [Pictures from our wonderful SDCC correspondent, Anne Mortensen-Agnew!]

  • Kotobukiya’s teasers pretty much gave away all that we’d be seeing at Wonder Festival, but… hey, we still like to see the whole figure! As we suspected there are a whole lot of Tony Taka girls. Daisy’s sister is here, and looking so lovely! Then there’s Roselinde, who looks great in all that armor. The mystery winged figure is a SECOND winged version of Sakuya. But this time it’s back to the name Maxima. That counts as different, right? And, of course, Xiao-Mei and her cat form Rinrin! Then we have a new set of Muv-Luv Alternative girls: Katia Waldheim, Irisdena Bernhard, and Lyz Hohenstein in swimsuits. There is also a teaser for another Shingeki no Bahamut figure! YES! But wait, there’s more. Homura in a kimono… thing, and swimsuit Saber, and another swimsuit figure of… Amane Suou from Grisaia no Kajitsu -LE FRUIT DE LA GRISAIA-. Phew. Oh, and also pink Chun-Li. • Kotobukiya had a lot of Bishoujo teasers lined up for their gaming division: art for both Anna and Sakura, and we had hints that there would probably be a sculpt as well. But boy oh boy did they deliver at this event! The art for Anna and Sakura is out on display (note: right now we don’t have a good angle on Anna, we’re working on it!) and Juri is sculpted and I NEED HER SO BAD. Then there are two brand-new, unteased announcements: Chun-Li will be getting a second, pink outfit and Poison will be joining the Street Fighter lineup! OH HAPPY DAY [UPDATE] Full art for Anna has been added via Harada! [UPDATE 2] Art for Sakura added via Koto {Please note that transphobia in the comments, including use of the word “trap,” will not be tolerated} [via Piziitoys’ Facebook]

  • Chun-Li’s road to release was a long and bumpy one. The line was announced in 2011–yes, almost three years ago–and we didn’t get to see her sculpt until this past summer’s SDCC. She was painted shortly after, but that’s where things got a bit rough around the edges. Fans were, shall we say, displeased with Chun-Li’s face. But Kotobukiya is one of the few companies that actually listens to fan suggestions during productions, and she got a new face right before release! I think many people were still skeptical given the drama around this release and the very long timeframe, so I was thrilled when we got our paws on her to do a review shoot. Nothing’s better than seeing a figure “in the flesh,” right? So, does she live up to the very high expectations set up by a three year late, or does she miss the mark? Hit the jump and let’s find out!
