  • Prize figures have always been appealing: you get a cheap version of a popular character, often in an outfit that we’d never see in scales. Plus, the quality gets better and better on them every year. With rising scaled figure prices and a worsening exchange rate, prize figures are looking better than ever, so it’s a good thing the upcoming lineup of them seems amazing! We have all the regulars out and about: Evangelion, Kantai Collection, Sword Art Online, Fate/Grand Order, Bakemonogatari, Miku, Lupin, and many many more. The noodle topper ones really seem to be taking the prize world by storm: I have a few and can vouch for how amazingly fun they are to display all sorts of odd ways. Any of them catch your eye? • Well, the day has finally come. Max Factory has given up on the weird pixellated teasers. You probably know I am a fan of those, and not so much a fan of these “here are 10 things we’re bringing to WonFest~” teasers because I want SOME surprise, dammit. My last bastion has fallen, my peaches are ruined. Why Max Factory. Okay, so their teasers still are more ambiguous than GSC’s, but it’s easy to guess what is here. The header is the crazy Aoba from DRAMAtical Murder, then we have figmas of Li Syaoran, Chono Masahiro, and Kaban from Kemono Friends. The staff looks very Dark Magician to me (or maybe Lancer?), but what about that weird tentacle thing? Any ideas, Plastikitties? [via the figma blog]

  • MegaHobby Expo Spring 2017 is almost upon us! And by “almost upon us” I actually mean “3 weeks away but it’s never too early for teasers amirite.” Because MegaHouse is already teasing some of the announcements they will have there. And it’s something I am very excited for, because I am unrepentant Lelouch trash. They will be doing a matching set of Lelouch & Suzaku figures based on an absolutely stunning illustration from CLAMP themselves. How beautiful are these boys?! Behold my trash babies in all their glory. MegaHouse’s Code Geass figures have been consistently great so I can’t wait to see the sculpts. [via MegaHobby]

  • Nendoroids. I love ’em, but on days like this I think to myself “why are there so many?!” We’ve seen the Nendos from Persona 5 and Fate/Grand Order. But there’s more. SO MANY MORE. We’ve got a surprise Lum, Fullmetal Alchemist cuties, Atlas & P-Body, Tony Taka Racing Miku, a new Kirby x2, Leonard Watch, Li from Cardcaptor, maiko Madoka Nendoroids, a Detective Conan quartet, new Rin & Len, even more Love Live!, Vocaloids Rin & Len, Attack on Titan, Re:Zero, a new Reimu (who looks sooo much better than the old one), Little Witch Academia, Fire Emblem, Kimi no Na wa, Ero Manga-sensei, Granblue Fantasy, Kyoukai no Rinne, Serval from Kemono Friends (so cute!! but why is the African mammal white guys), Saga of Tanya the Evil, Little Armory, Tsuki ni Yorisou Otome no Sahou, BanG Dream!, Is the order a Rabbit?, AND MORE. So much more. Like many cool Nendoroid accessories: tanks for them to ride in, penguin & bear suits, special Halloween and Christmas sets… check ’em out below, and decide what tiny plastic babies to spend your hard-earned money on. • We’ve been blessed with a lot of Cardcaptor figures recently, but while I am happy I still really want some of the non-human main characters. Like some of the cards, or Kero’s true form. My one true wish was for Yue, but I really expected that to never happen. Yet here we are, with a scaled Yue announcement! Granted, it’s from Hobby Max who don’t have a single released figure, but I don’t even care. I WANT HIM SO BAD. [via 2chan]

  • So far we’ve had Nendoroids of Sakura (numerous Nendos, in fact!) and Tomoyo, but a certain grumpy boy was totally missing in action. Which is a shame, because he’s a main character… moreso than Tomoyo, I think you can argue. But the wait is now over! We have both Nendoroid and figma announcements for Li. Dreams do come true, guys. Dreams do come true. [via Kahotan]

  • It’s really hard for me to not get overly excited about Cardcaptor Sakura merchandise. It’s like Sailor Moon: the ten-year-old girl in me just goes apeshit. I tried really hard to temper my expectations for GSC’s Sakura after we saw the sculpt: I mean, it was a thing of beauty, but it’s important to not get too excited! And sadly it seemed like I was right when we saw her painted… but maybe it was the event lighting? I’m so torn about this figure. I think Sakura herself looks amazing: the sculpt is so crisp and the colors perfectly bright. I mean, just look at the floofy skirt! Perfection! But I really dislike the base. It looks kind of cheap to me, too much perfectly clear PVC and it’s just a lil too elaborate (my problem with MF Sheryl as well). It’s hard to focus on Sakura! And she’s going to cost like $300 so it’s not something I want to compromise on. Thankfully, there will be a standard version that’s just the figure! Of course at ¥12k it still costs and arm and a leg but I greatly prefer the simplicity of that one. [via Kahotan]

  • I was over the moon when Good Smile Company announced a scaled figure of Sakura. One of my favorite anime heroines in the crazy detail we’ve come to expect from GSC? Yes please. I was cautiously optimistic about the sculpt: it looked great, but the concept art had some strange color choices. I wanted to pass judgment only when we’d seen the finished piece. Well she was at Anime Expo so that time has arrived! And let’s just pray the lighting there was really bad because I am not wowed by this. The colors look as weird as I imagined, and the totally clear wings are an… odd choice. If they were even slightly tinted I think they’d look less cheap. But I know event lighting is usually just terrible so I am still hopeful that the official shots will be stunning! [via mfc]

  • I will admit that when I first heard about Nendoroid Co-De, I thought it was just a money-grab, a way to make basically unfinished and accessory-less Nendoroids and still get us to pay. Well, it’s high time I admitted I was terribly wrong. Co-De has given us some amazingly cute alternate outfits, and it’s kind of like a “Nendo wardrobe.” And who better fits that description than Sakura, who had a new outfit basically every episode? We’ve known for a while that Sakura would be getting some Co-De outfits, and I kind of expected them to pop up at Wonder Festival. But here we are, with them fully painted! We’ve got her cat outfit (my favorite of all her getups) and her jester-style dress from the second OP. So cute!! I need them both. [via Kahotan’s Twitter]

  • Welcome to what is apparently Cardcaptor Sakura day on Plastikitty! Boy do we have a lot of Sakura-related news for you today, phew. So let’s get right on it! Kotobukiya’s first Sakura (review) is a figure near and dear to my heart, and while I guess I’d be fine owning one scaled figure of her there’s no such thing as “too much Sakura.” So of course I’m very excited by their new announcement! They’ll be doing a second figure of her, this time of the white & pink dress. Which, of course, also has wings! I wonder if they’ll be going with the pose in the art they showed, or something a bit more dynamic? [via mfc]
