  • As a company, MegaHouse absolutely bamboozles me. On one hand we have their cute, nostalgic, simple-but-well-made lines like their amazing Digimon and Pokemon figures, which were both out and about at MegaHobby. Then they bust out the occasional magnificent sculpt, like our header girl: Airi from Queen’s Blade! I cannot explain my excitement when I saw her: I always wanted a great Airi figure but assumed that time had come & gone long ago. But no, MegaHouse to the rescue! Then we have the other half of their line: the painfully tacky and often out-of-character girls, especially from beloved shows like Naruto and Dragonball Z. They’ve butchered so many of my faves. Just look at that Hinata. It hurts my soul. And I remember C.C in a lot more clothing, don’t you? The One Piece girls obviously fall into this category: the anatomy has gotten so bad that I kind of think it’s some big elaborate joke. The sculpting for this “side” of them is often simple to a fault and looks like it could have been from 8 years ago. Put Airi, the new Digimon boys, and that awful stripper pole Nami together: do they look like the same company? What is going on with MegaHouse?!?! [via moeyo]

  • MegaHouse is absolutely the most consistent manufacturer at any event. You can guess before seeing anything what 90% of their figures will be. We’ve got One Piece, Digimon, Pokemon, Gintama, Naruto, Tiger & Bunny, Kuroko no Basket. Of course they always throw us a few curveballs (no Dragon Ball Z?!) and at least one pleasant surprise. This time around it’s C.C from Code Geass! Of course her dress is coming off because recently MH has been incapable of making a female character who isn’t halfway disrobed or busting out of her top. Android 18, Chi Chi, now C.C…. sigh….. she’s sexy enough already! [via girlshobby]

  • I will be honest: when it comes to Wonder Festival, I never really look forward to MegaHouse’s booth. They tend to save all their good stuff for their own event… which is MegaHobby! And that time has finally come. The star of the show was, of course, the amazing Suzaku & Lelouch duo they teased earlier. And my how beautiful these sculpts are. Of course they had all the usuals: Naruto (including the adorable Naruto Girls line), Dragon Ball Z, Gintama, Gundam, One Piece, and my new favorite from them… Zatch Bell. Check ’em all out in the gallery below! [UPDATE] They have also announced a new Pokemon figures: Ash with Greninja and Pikachu! [via AmiAmi’s Twitter & Dengeki]

  • MegaHobby Expo Spring 2017 is almost upon us! And by “almost upon us” I actually mean “3 weeks away but it’s never too early for teasers amirite.” Because MegaHouse is already teasing some of the announcements they will have there. And it’s something I am very excited for, because I am unrepentant Lelouch trash. They will be doing a matching set of Lelouch & Suzaku figures based on an absolutely stunning illustration from CLAMP themselves. How beautiful are these boys?! Behold my trash babies in all their glory. MegaHouse’s Code Geass figures have been consistently great so I can’t wait to see the sculpts. [via MegaHobby]

  • I have been drooling over this release since we first got the teaser images a few weeks back. Maybe this makes me basic as hell, but Lelouch is my favorite male anime character, and the idea of owning such a huge figure of him? Pure excitement. I have yet to make a Smart Doll purchase (and in fact I haven’t ordered a doll in several years) but this might just be my first. Unlike Volks’ boy dolls, I think Danny Choo has made his distinctly male looking. Sure, there’s still the pretty boy anime vibe, but I think the face sculpt is far more masculine than what we’ve seen in the DD world. Given that we already have Spike and Lulu from the line, I wonder what boys are next? Probably Suzaku, I’d guess. [via takamine95’s Twitter]

  • While Kotobukiya’s Toy Fair booth is mostly focused on US-centric licenses like comic and movie toys (the new anime reveals are saved for Wonder Festival), they always bring a few on over for us. And, unsurprisingly, they’re mostly from shows that are popular here like Cowboy Bebop, Black Butler, Code Geass, and Cardcaptor Sakura. My favorite, though, was the gorgeous Charlotta from Granblue Fantasy. She’s so detailed but so tiny and cute! And the ruffles. So many of my favorite things.

  • Volks has recently hopped on the male Dollfie train, though let’s be honest: their first offering looked pretty much identical to their girl dolls. I’ve been dreaming of a true anime-style male doll for years and it seems like my dreams might finally be coming true–but not because of Volks. Danny Choo’s beautiful SmartDoll lineup will be adding a few boys to the mix, and he’s got some exciting licenses in the lineup. First off we have Cowboy Bebop‘s Spike Spiegel, who has yet to be revealed… but based on the blurry photo, he is 100% complete! Who would have ever thought we’d have a Spike doll? Times are changing. Then there’s Lelouch from Code Geass, who I am insanely excited for since he’s my favorite male anime character (well, him and the cat teacher from Princess Tutu, but we all know he’s not getting a doll). There are also some very heavy hints that Suzaku might be joining him too… [via Danny Choo]

  • Code Geass is such a nostalgic series for me. I used to spend Saturday nights chowing down on Chinese food with a friend and watching episodes of it. It was at a time in my life that I’d pretty much fallen away from anime, so in a way it was my re-introduction to the genre. And a hella good one at that! Figure releases from the show have always been sporadic but at the same time it seems like there’s always at least one in the works, be it a planned re-release or fancy prize figures. This year it’s Kotobukiya’s Lelouch, based on his Code Black appearance. He was unpainted at Wonder Festival, but it’s been a few months since then and now he’s all finished and shiny!

  • The vast majority of Kotobukiya’s figures sold in Japan are based on anime, game, and manga licenses. But of course in the US, the focus is more on comic and movie toys. But they still brought a few of their cute boys and girls! Especially because the ArtFX J line is increasingly popular in the US. They had figures like Genjo Sanzo from Saiyuki Reload Blast, their new Lelouch, the beautiful new Tony Taka girl, Emilia from Re:Zero, and their realistic Marie Rose from Dead or Alive. Their new Atem was also out on display, but sadly they’re making some sculpt tweaks so he was Do Not Photograph.

  • We have seen two of Kotobukiya’s most exciting Wonder Festival announcements (new Pokemon and Cowboy Bebop), but I don’t think anything could prepare me for the exciting boy-figure-flood that was about to happen. Not only did they have Spike on display and their sculpted Atem, but we’re getting a brand new Lelouch from Code Black!! Thank you figure Jesus. We are blessed this day. And that’s not all (obviously)! So much new stuff, like an adorable Madoka, High School Fleet figures, Type-Moon’s Heroine X, a bunny-tastic Airi Totoki, Sebastian Cu-Poche, and a sculpted Velvet Crowe. We also have a few announcements! They’ll be doing another Tony Taka butterfly sister (who looks suspiciously like Miku), Vira from Granblue Fantasy, and RyuuZU from Clockwork Planet.
