D-Arts Archive

  • Remember Bandai’s D-Arts Elizabeth? She was pretty great. So were all the other Persona 3 & 4 D-Arts and Figuarts Zero that mysteriously vanished. Wouldn’t it be nice if we got an update on those? Well, we don’t. Instead we have… a recolor! Yayyyyyyyyy. It will come as no shock that we are getting Christmas Elizabeth. Ques-Q did it, so of course Bandai has to as well. But for real, Bandai, if I don’t get a Mitsuru or Rise D-Arts/S.H.Figuarts I will DIE. Literally. Then I will haunt you for all of eternity. • We’ve already seen a lot from Bandai: Sailor Moon, Batman, Naruto, Dragonball Z & phone undies. But Bluefin stocks a LOT of Bandai products, pretty much all of them, and their booth at Toy Fair was almost literally overflowing with figures. I mean, it was a little hard to squeeze in between all the cases given how packed it was with toys (and people)! The star of the show was the huge display for their Mario S.H.Figuarts, which took up an entire wall! It was pretty impressive, and with all the accessories you can get for him it’s easy to build a mini version of this. There were musical-based figures (Daft Punk, Michael Jackson), lots of Monsterarts, and a brand-new robot Hello Kitty. Check them all out below!

  • Is your Nendoroid Luigi feeling lonely? Is your Nintendo figure display a bit empty without the undisputed star of the company’s lineup? Well, we are probably going to get a Nendoroid Mario eventually, but for now there is a solution in the works! Bandai is teaming up with Nintendo to bring us everyone’s favorite Italian plumber as part of their D-Arts line. Honestly, with the amount of awesome accessories he comes with (shells, goombas, coins, blocks), I doubt even Good Smile could top this little fellow. I’m sure his price will be a bit high but I mean come on LITTLE GOOMBAS who cares?! And the tiny mushrooms! I need like 5 of these right now. [via Figure/GK]

  • So far Bandai has given us Mewtwo, Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur. So who is up next? You would think maybe Gen 2 starters, maybe some more legendaries, or perhaps a popular mascot like… say… Pikachu? Nope! It’s Lucario! Why is Lucario so popular? It eludes me. Sure, he’s great on a team (though there are other Steel & Fighting Pokes I greatly prefer), and there’s the movie, but… come on, Celebi had a movie and you don’t see her with fawning crowds of fans. In any case, here we are with D-Arts Lucario! His form does work well for an action figure, which surely went into consideration during the planning stages. I wonder if he will come with a cool hat and cape as first run bonuses? [via Figure/GK]

  • You know… in all my years of figure reporting, I’ve never been able to figure out exactly what the difference is between a D-Arts and a S.H.Figuarts (aside from pricing). Not that it really matters, but Noel here (who, granted, we have seen a lot of) is one of the former–and despite how long she’s been hanging around, we still haven’t seen her up for order! She seems to be getting a bit more refined each time she pops up at an event, and Noel was definitely shined and sculpted to perfection at NYCC. It would have been nice to see, you know,  dynamic pose or something since she’s just kind of… standing there. Thrilling! Hopefully she comes with some cool extras when she finally goes up for order (and we get to see some actual fun poses!).

    NYCC 2013: Bandai’s D-Arts Noel Vermillion

  • Wow, Noel sure is popular recently! Okay, so we’ve only seen the Vertex figure and this one in the past week, but for an under-represented game franchise like BlazBlue that counts as a lot. It’s been quite some time since we first found out that Bandai would be making an action figure of the popular heroine, and in fact she was painted when the announcement was made (we just couldn’t show you her!). But Bandai moves at a snail’s pace, so it took them almost a year to finally show her off to the public. D-Arts are sadly not quite as nice as figmas when it comes to paint and quality, but Noel is looking quite nice! I like the clear hair (of course) though her face looks kind of… blank. Of course it won’t be the only one, and I’m hoping she comes with some cool effect parts. And isn’t super limited and/or exclusive. Which she probably will be, because it’s Bandai. I’m pretty sure their figure division is run by a sadist. [via moeyo]

  • As any Persona fan will tell you, there simply aren’t enough figures from the games. Seriously, we’re quite annoying. And don’t get us hardcore MegaTen fans started, we just don’t shut up about it! But Bandai has been a light in the darkness, giving us D-Arts of some of the Personas along with annoyingly exclusive Figuarts of some of the characters. We even got Raidou from Devil Summoner! They actually announced a whole ton and then… kind of abandoned them, but it seems they are just starting over with a new Persona 4 Arena line! First up is everyone’s favorite Velvet Room assistant, Elizabeth! Sorry Margaret, Theo and Mary, but you know it’s true. She’s just… the best ever. And now you can have a poseable version of her! WITH A CHAIR! And Bandai is feeling generous, so they’re re-releasing Thanatos (her persona in Arena, originally the MC’s from 3) to go along with her. [via Tamashii Nations]

  • I think it’s safe to say that of the first generation Pokemon starters, Bulbasaur and his evolutions are the least-loved of the bunch. Poor guy just isn’t appreciated! I’m a Squirtle girl myself, followed by Charmander: in fact I don’t really care for any of the grass starters, which kind of seems to be the trend with most of them. So it’s no surprise that Venusaur is the last of the Pokemon D-Arts to be released, following Mewtwo, Charizard and Blastoise. But they still put a lot of love into this release! He looks great, and comes with vines to whip his opponents into submission. We just saw him at Miyazawa Model Exhibition but he looks a heck of a lot better in these shots, with much richer paint and better poseability. Release is set for August so we should be seeing pre-orders very soon, hopefully followed by some new announcements! Let’s just hope it’s not Mewthree…. [via Tamashii Nations]

  • For years, people have wanted high-quality Pokemon action figures. It took a long time for Bandai to come around and release some, but oh man did they deliver. So far we’ve gotten Mewtwo, Charizard and Blastoise (who are all hanging out in the gallery), but the big news is that we can finally show you Venusaur who was one of the first ones shown off! However, he was marked Do Not Photograph at the time. This clearly means he’ll be up for order soon, and also that Bandai is out of the original D-Arts they showed off. So who is next? Will they stick with Gen 1 or move on to other Generations? Who would you like to see next? Personally, I really want an Absol. [via Akibahobby]

  • It is a very good time to be a Shin Megami Tensei fan! Launching off the success of the Persona 4 animation and game trio, figure manufacturers have been pushing headlong into the entire MegaTen franchise. Sure, we’ve gotten a handful of figures in the past, but now there’s a flood! And, happily, it’s not all Persona. In fact, the awesome Raidou Kuzunoha from the Devil Summoner line of games is getting quite a bit of attention–first the MegaHouse figure, and now Bandai is doing a D-Arts of him! Raidou looks as badass as you’d guess he would, and you can even pull his hat down low enough to cover his eyes. And while Bandai usually likes to skimp on accessories, Raidou comes with quite a few bits of weaponry and effect parts, and even his loyal companion Gotou! All for ¥4200 with a June release. Now if only Good Smile would pick up that Nendoroid kit… [via Tamashii Nations]
