Sadly we here at Plastikitty got hit by a nasty spring flu so we’ve been out of commission in terms of the roundup for a few weeks, but now we’re back in business! Though technically it’s the roundup for the week of 3/29~4/4 we’re also featuring some of the best figures from the week before as well.

So what do we have in store? Tons of pretty ladies! In fact we’ve got releases from almost all the major manufacturers, including some that I have been really looking forward to. Check them all out after the jump!

I sure am great at getting you to want to read posts, huh? No but seriously this was the worst week ever. Weeks with no figures are better because man did we get some stinkers this time around. But those are fun to laugh at, at least! And, of course, there’s a single new gem tucked away in the weird slimy darkness of 1/20~1/24: a week that shall live in infamy.

I absolutely adore a lot of what they produce, but the other half is just… bizarre. Oddly enough, Yukihime here falls somewhere in the middle. I think her face is soft and lovely, and the hair is to die for. But the body sculpt is just weird. She has the US comic girl plasticine leg thing going on, along with a ribcage that looks like it’s trying to escape from her body. It’s very stylized and most definitely not my stripe, sadly. This sculpt was originally a garage kit and I think it shows a bit: her body just looks… unrefined.

No scale is listed for Yukihime but she is BIG–14 inches big. Like most Daiki figures her retail is on the high side at ¥13,000, but given how gigantic she is that doesn’t seem so steep. She’ll be released in July, and expect orders to open this week.

[via Daiki]

Also, we’re much more timely this time around because we actually started compiling the list back in November. No joke! We get so many figures in a year that it does take a while to sort through. It also requires a lot of thought, since this is not a ‘Best Of’ list. We don’t base it on sculpt or coloring or characters, but on what figures we’ve really enjoyed the most.

To be totally honest, 2012 just wasn’t quite as good as 2011–and 2013 is looking to be much brighter already. It seems like a lot of things got delayed, and some of our favorite companies fell totally flat. But of course with something like 2 thousand figures released in a year (2,269 according to mfc) there are more than enough bright stars to focus on! So who made the cut? Hit the jump to find out!
