Dangan-Ronpa Archive

  • Flare, Alter’s new-ish sister company, has had some… mixed results, to put it lightly. Some of their figures are amazing and some are very bland, but all of them have insanely high prices. But hey, it’s (kind of) Alter, so I think we all had high expectations for their Dangan Ronpa figure. Even with a scary pricetag looming overhead. Sadly, this is about as bland as a figure can get. Kyouko has such a fantastic character design, but she’s just… standing there. Super stiffly. The fabric sculpt looks so unrealistic! I mean, the noodle-hat accessory is nice, and she does come with Monokuma, but this is really just a meh figure. And the price? ¥13500 for 1/7. Hah, okay then Flare. [via Flare]

  • Unlike some companies (*cough*GSC*cough*), Alter decided that maybe it wasn’t the best idea to bring literally every figure they’re working on to Miyazawa Model, so instead we’re getting a nice, concise highlight reel. In fact, they only had 2 figures out on display: the new Gotou, and their wonderful Plamya-sama who I am head-over-heels in love with. Flare, their sister company, brought a TON though. Basically everything they’ve ever made (which is, like, 6 figures). Most of them are already up for order but two, Kyouko Kirigiri from Dangan Ronpa and Yukari from Girls und Panzer, are still in the sculpt stage. Honestly, Flare’s high prices have yet to really sell me on anything, but I am looking forward to the upcoming Saber Extra. [via Akibahobby]

  • Flare, a somehow-sister-company of Alter, started out with a clear mission statement: elaborate but totally overpriced figures. I think after only two of these they sat down and went “woah, shit, that’s not working at all!” because things are significantly toned down at Wonder Festival. Most of their booth was actually announcements: Saber Extra in her red dress, Caster Extra (who we have a sneaky pic of), Venera-sama in a cute lying-down pose, and Ena Hoshijiro. As for sculpts? Only a few, and they look quite simple! Miho from Girls und Panzer (though in my mind it won’t beat that new Koto one) and Kyouko Kirigiri fron Dangan Ronpa! In a super basic pose, what’s up with that? I think they went a little too in the opposite direction of “crazy elaborate.” [via 2chan]

  • Wonder Festival is now only one day away, and we’re coming to the end of our pre-event garage kit coverage! We’ve been over quite a bit, but by far the biggest category is exactly what you would expect: anime and manga related characters. This year, like pretty much every other, there’s a fantastic mix of old and new. From shows that just wrapped up to ones that ended decades ago, it’s all here! Check them all out in the gallery below and let us know your favorites. [via Amie-Grand, Volks, fg-site, motomiya_amato, Mad Hands, ice-9, Windflower, Tinami, T’s System, Temjin, Sakura Senzen, Crea Mode]

  • Here we see the signature almost-white but kind-of-lavender spikey hair, maniacal look and dorky-yet-diabolical pose of the Yu-Gi-Oh antagonist/protagonist, Bakura! Wait, no. That’s not right. Bakura, a figure announced 2 years ago, still even isn’t sculpted! Not that I’m mad about it or anything. This is actually Kotobukiya’s second ArtFX J boy in the Dangan Ronpa line: Nagito Komaeda! It’s certainly better pose-wise than Algernon Project’s, though I think I like the hair on the latter more. But it sure will make a nice pair with their Hinata Hajime. [via IoryHamon’s Twitter]

  • 99% of the time, my decisions about a figure are based on, well, the figure itself. How is the character posed? Is the clothing realistically sculpted? Is her face well done? How are the body proportions? Are the colors cohesive? Will it fit in with the rest of my collection? But sometimes that 1% takes over and I want a figure because of things like floating televisions. YES, floating televisions. Like the ones that come with Phat! Company’s Chiaki from Super Dangan-Ronpa 2: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen. There’s also a floating Monomi and an amazing giant Monokuma face base. Chiaki herself is kind of meh (what even is happening with her torso/bust) but do I care? No. Floating television. Pre-orders start on the 27th and I am terrified of what her price will be, but I kind of need this in my life immediately. [via Kahotan]

  • Fans were excited to learn that Kotobukiya would be taking on the boys of Dangan-Ronpa at Wonder Festival, and while it’s only been a few months since the event they’re already on a roll! Hajime Hinata was painted a week ago, and orders have just opened–though note, if you get him through the Kotobukiya store, you get an extra face! And now, already, we are getting the sculpt for Nagito Komaeda! Who, you know, sure does look a lot like Bakura. Who they also have an announced figure of. Where is Bakura?! ;~; Okay, seriously, Nagito looks really awesome. I love the pose! Much more interesting than Algernon Project’s version. [via Kotobukiya’s es blog]

  • Remember when Kotobukiya announced figures from Dangan-Ronpa? You probably should because it was only like a month and a half ago, although it was just art at the time. But apparently this project, which is part of the ArtFX J line, is on the fast track–we are getting not just a sculpt, but a colored one! It’s Hinata Hajime, one of the two characters currently in the works (though I wouldn’t be surprised if we get more, depending on how well the first few sell), and he looks great! Though the art and base style just remind me so much of MegaTen and Persona. Man, I’d kill for a Junpei figure… [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Kotobukiya’s ArtFX J line so far has been dedicated to reviving older series like Yu-Gi-Oh or Yu Yu Hakusho, but it seems like they are going to be changing it up a bit! That’s right, a (much) newer license has landed in the line: Dangan Ronpa! We’ve got two character announcements, Hinata Hajime and Nagito Komaeda. Finally, some male figures from the series! • Empty is a strange company. They barely make any figures–in fact their last big release was Solange (!!)–but when they do produce something, people tend to notice. Out of the blue they’ve announced a figure from Dangan Ronpa of Nanami Chiaki, a PVC version of a garage kit that won’t even see release until Winter Wonder Festival. It’s a strange situation all around, but I’m sure fans aren’t complaining! I’m a bit behind on the Dangan Ronpa hype, but it’s hard to deny Nanami’s cuteness. I mean… her hair, the outfit, that gorgeous color palette, and she even comes with Monomi! And all for the very reasonable price of ¥8,925 with a July release. [via Amazon JP]
