Dark Angel Olivia Archive

  • There are few things in life I like more than cute winged girls full of clear PVC. My cat, jelly beans, Christmas trees, an untouched tube of lipstick. And then Dark Angel Olivia, since the original version (review) has skyrocketed up the list of my favorite figures since I got my grubby paws on her. When they announced a second colorway I was both happy and confused: more Olivia is a good thing, but the colors looked a bit off. Now we’re getting some super high def pictures and she looks far more vibrant and less washed-out, with her wings having that same “lit from within” magic that the original showed us. Plus, you know, twintails–another of my weaknesses. This is a super limited Wonder Festival release but if you live in the US and want her, you are in luck! She is up in Kotobukiya’s webstore for a reasonable $139.99, though you will have to wait patiently until September to receive her. Worth not paying the proxy fees and EMS shipping for sure!

  • Most of the time, recolors are kind of obnoxious. It’s just another coat of paint, so what? Yes, Orchid Seed, I am talking about you. But every once in a while you find yourself really, really wishing for a recolor. Like with Kotobukiya’s Dark Angel Olivia (review): sure, the original was phenomenal, but you know what? There are other versions of her WITH TWINTAILS. So of course I wanted some of that action. Well, here she is, looking gorgeous! And… she’s an exclusive. Excuse me while I cry in the corner. SHe will be available at CCG EXPO 2014, and there are hints at another release so maybe not all hope is lost! Thankfully, I don’t like her quite as much as I expected I would: her warm color palette looks a bit washed out next to the vibrancy of the original. I wonder if they will produce her third version as well? [via Kotobukiya’s Blog]

  • Not all figures are created equal. Even among the top-tier companies, there are the shining beacons of quality that clearly demand more time and attention than the rest of their lineup. You know, the showstoppers, the centerpiece figures. I think it’s no big secret that Dark Angel Olivia is Kotobukiya’s crown jewel of 2014: sure, the year is just starting and they do have Seraphim Sakuya coming up, but just look at her. I’ve been in love with this beauty for a long time, and I let out many squeals of delight when the box was finally in my hands. I was convinced she would be the most perfect figure in the history of all things because Olivia is my One True Love so I guess you could say my expectations were just a little high for this release. So how does the final product live up to the figure-wife I’d constructed in my head? Hit the jump and let’s find out!

  • It’s no secret that I’m totally smitten by Kotobukiya’s Dark Angel Olivia. I was practically hyperventilating when we saw her full reveal, and we’ve already featured one bonus gallery. But I’ve decided that there is no such thing as too much when it comes to Olivia. It’s impossible. Every post every day could be Olivia and I’d be happy. I mean, just look at her! The wings, the outfit, the detail, the base, the colors! She’s perfection. It’s like I’ve been waiting my whole collecting career for this one figure. Seriously, I could retire after I get her in the mail and be happy. (And yes, I did just say “retire”… about a hobby. I have a problem). Her pre-orders sold out at most Japanese retailers but there are a few US stores that have her in stock if you’re on the hunt! [via AmiAmi]

  • By now I’m sure most people are already head over heels in love with Kotobukiya’s Dark Angel Olivia. I mean really, what’s not to like? She has the sharp, detailed sculpt of an Alter figure, the gorgeous shading of a Max Factory girl, combined with one of Kotobukiya’s usual interesting diorama bases. Oh, and since she’s made by the last company on the list she’s probably going to actually be affordable. So hold of on selling a kidney on the black market! We’ve seen quite a few pictures of her so far, but you know what we need? More. So many more. Today we’ve got some nice backlit shots showing off all that tasty PVC along with close-up details of her outfit and wings. I’m kind of dying because I don’t own her right now… and won’t until March, her release date. [via Kotobukiya’s Blog]

  • Apparently one major event just isn’t enough for Kotobukiya! While they just revealed a whole bunch of new licenses and figures in the US, they can’t neglect their Japanese audience can they? Which, of course, is us too since I’m sure most of our readers are also invested in the Japanese PVC market. It’s Hobby Show 2013, and they have some goodies to show off! The first is Dark Angel Olivia, whose sculpt I was drooling over at Wonder Festival. Now she’s painted and I want to hop on a plane RIGHT NOW and go steal this prototype because oh my god it’s everything I ever wanted. [via Kotobukiya’s Twitter]

  • If you know anything about my collecting habits, you’re probably aware of the fact that I am a sucker for wings. Like, that is literally the only reason I need to buy a figure. It’s got wings? Yup, I’ll buy it. Good wings, bad wings, I don’t even care just gimmie those sweet sweet wings. Of course I’d prefer awesome ones, and for a while now the pride of my wing collection has been Kotobukiya’s Astraea (I know you’re thinking it should be Dizzy but SHUT UP CLEAR PVC)–I never thought she’d be topped, especially not by Koto! Even thought they made my #1 wing girl… don’t ask me the logic behind this. Seeing their Dark Angel Olivia at WonFest gave me some hope for a new winged queen, but event photos are shitty and terrible and I hate them. Now we’re getting a close look at Olivia and BE STILL MY HEART. SO PRETTY. She has made me enter ALL CAPS MODE. The best news? She has tons of forms… so we might even get some RESCULPTS. I know, that’s not really good news unless you are a wing addict. Which I definitely am. [via Kotobukiya’s RED☆STAR Blog]

  • Kotobukiya stuffed us full of so many teasers very few of the figures in this post are going to come as a surprise. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome! Especially Dark Angel Olivia, uhnf. We’ve also got Colette Brunel, Shiki Ryougi, Sumika Kagami, the bunny version of Kasumi Yashiro and Tomo Asama. We’ve shown you the rest already: their ArtFX J line, the Tony Taka reveals, and the Bakemonogatari girls. Of course we have some announcements! It seems they have (at least for the moment) stopped their Angelic Island line and are moving on to the hot new idol property, Love Live! School Idol Project. They’ll be doing swimsuit figures of Umi Sonada, Kotori Minami and Honoka Kousaka who are all pretty cute. Now… for the big announcement: ArtFX J Attack on Titan! Yes, that means BOYS BOYS BOYS YEAAH. Eren Jaegar and Levi, to be more specific. That should help balance out all the Mikasa merch! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • Did you think Kotobukiya’s huge slew of Wonder Festival teasers was enough? Well, my friend, you were wrong. So wrong! Apparently Koto is out to de-throne Mikatan as king of the WonFest teasers, and I think they might actually win this round. Which makes me sad because I hate hate hate teasers. You’re killing the surprise! Especially with WonFest only a few hours away! Well we’ve only got three here, so let’s dive right in. First off their Colette Brunel from Tales of Symphonia is sculpted. Hooray! Then we’ve got two new announcements: Shiki Ryougi from Kara no Kyoukai (shocking!) and Dark Angel Olivia from Shingeki no Bahamut (less shocking, given how we’ve already seen Cerberus and Dark General from the franchise).
