  • I’ve really done a heel face turn on Kotobukiya’s version 2 Harley Quinn Bishoujo: my feelings have gone from annoyance at the idea to true love of the execution. If I had one small complaint it was that I’m not a huge fan of the red/blue color scheme, but that is being fixed with her special NYCC colorway! Which will be classic red and black, of course. If you’re not going to the event, don’t worry! Harley is limited and exclusive, and of course will be easy to just pick up in person at their booth, but there’s a way for all Bishoujo fans in the US to get her. Pre-orders are open on their site right now for $74.99. They’ll probably go fast, so don’t hesitate if you want this release!

  • I’ve really done a 180 on Bishoujo Harley Quinn version 2 since her announcement. At first I was very disappointed in the choice of outfit, but the amazing sculpt quickly won me over. Now, I think it’s safe to say she might be one of my very-favorite Bishoujos… and she’s not even out yet! At SDCC we got to take another up-close look at her. We also found out that there will be an exclusive NYCC version of her with the classic black & red color palette, a masked face, and a new weapon (gun instead of hammer). I definitely need them both! • My initial hype for DC Bishoujo Wonder Girl was perhaps a little too high. I was hoping we’d get Donna Troy and her amazing sparkly outfits, but of course we ended up with the more recent/popular Cassie Sandsmark. Though to be totally honest I’m most surprised that they haven’t announced a new Supergirl based on the TV show outfit. Anyway, I was at first disappointed that we’d be getting Cassie, but I perked up when we saw her art which was super adorable. It’s been a few months since the last update, but we’re skipping right to the finished prototype! Indeed, orders are already open, and Cassie will retail for $74.99 with a December release date. Personally, I’m not super thrilled with this figure: the face is a lot less cutesy than the art and I find her outfit pretty basic (more a character flaw than the figure though). What do you guys think of this Wonder Girl, and who would you like to see next in the DC line? [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • From the beginning I’ve been pretty skeptical of a new Harley Quinn Bishoujo. I loved the first (review), and I tend to hate her Suicide Squad outfits so I was less than thrilled about this one. I felt a little differently after seeing the art, and was almost won over when we saw her at Wonder Festival. But after finally seeing her at Toy Fair? Guys, I’m sold. It’s over. I’m in love. I mean, she’s BEAUTIFUL. Possibly the best Shunya face they’ve ever done. Gorgeous colors and sculpting. Her nail color is even different on each hand and matches her outfit?? Plus she’s got the signature killer Bishoujo butt. Harley, get into my life right now.

  • We already saw Kotobukiya’s two pieces of Bishoujo news at Toy Fair (the art for Wonder Girl and Thor & Loki), but of course there was lots more–including the newly painted Harley Quinn v2 and Spider Gwen. And my waifu Lucky Chloe. Perhaps most importantly, we got some interesting info about Bishoujo Chucky. A few people thought she was a bit too cutesy for a horror Bish, but never fear! She will come with a second face that’s all scarred/messed up like the real Chucky.

  • One of Kotobukiya’s (many) Wonder Festival Bishoujo reveals was their newest DC addition, Wonder Girl! Personally, I was hoping for Donna Troy because ~sparkly space tights~ out as our clever readers guessed, it’s Cassie Sandsmark! I don’t have many feelings about Cassie as a character but I do love her cowgirl-esque-outfit. She’s ready to lasso those bulls and make them spill all their cow-related secrets!

Harley, who I expected to hate, looks good. I have to admit it! But of course I love Gwen the best–especially her body sculpt. [via Kotobukiya’s Twitter]

  • When people are thinking about the next DC Bishoujo I sometimes think to myself, “man, do they even have anyone left?” Then I remember that DC has, like, 2 thousand female characters, including a billion alt-versions of the classic ones. So, yeah, we have enough material for 25 more years of Bishoujos. At least. The next DC one will be Wonder Girl. There are a ton of different Wonder Girls but I am assuming this one will be Donna Troy–or, you know, I’m hoping. Because sparkly space pants. [via Shunya Yamashita]

  • Kotobukiya was the first company to give us Wonder Festival teasers, but it seems that wasn’t all we were going to get from them. It had two Bishoujo images so I assumed that was that, but oh no! There’s more! Both Spider Gwen and Harley Quinn v2 will be painted at the event, and they’re showing us a little slice of each of them. While I’m still on the fence about the new Harley I can’t wait for Gwen’s reveal! It seems we’ll be getting masked & unmasked heads for her. [via Kotobukiya]

  • Since the inception of the DC Bishoujo line, fans have been particularly vocal about their desires for a Raven figure. She may not be one of the most popular heroines in the comic world but we’re the generation that grew up with the Teen Titans cartoon so I, and a lot of other people, have very fond memories of her. We finally got Starfire (review) and I assumed Raven was right behind her, but there was about a year’s wait in between the two. Torture! Or, you know, just how long it takes to make figures, because the turnaround on the Bishoujos is pretty damn fast. Can you imagine if it was Orchid Seed or Alter doing this line? There’d be like 4 years between each girl and whichever one you wanted the most would just stay in prototype stage forever.
