As they usually do, DC Collectibles had a massive booth at Toy Fair stuffed with goodies. We’ve already taken a look at some of these, like the Poison Ivy Bombshell and the Man of Steel statues, but of course there was a lot more! For starters, they’ll be continuing their New 52 action figure line with a lot of new characters. 2 good guys (Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter), 3 baddies (Captain Cold, Black Adam, Death of the Family Joker), and Catwoman (who falls squarely in the middle). They’ll also be doing an action figure of Solomon Grundy, which is massive and weighs more than you can possibly imagine.
Swamp Thing will be getting a totally bitchin new statue in December. There’s a Trinity set of action figures featuring (shockingly) Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman, along with some New 52 two-packs. As for new Covergirls (which is what I really care about!) Batgirl, Batwoman, Supergirl and Platinum will be joining the line. Of course there are several new Batman Black & White stautes, mini articulated figures, an Ozymandius statue, and Nightwing from Arkham City. PHEW! That’s a whole lot of toys.

The first two, <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/nycc-2012-dc-collectibles-bombshells-line" target="_blank">Supergirl and Wonder Woman</a>, were absolutely spectacular. Seriously, I was pawing at the glass when we first saw them. They couldn’t be released fast enough! Granted, I was a bit less enthusiastic about <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/toy-fair-2013-dc-collectibles-bombshells-line" target="_blank">Poison Ivy</a>–something about her didn’t seem quite as magical, but she still had a ton of fans, and rightfully so! Of course I was over the moon with excitement when we found out that Harley Quinn would be next.</p> <p>We were told there would be a bomb theme, but it seems that got dropped somewhere along the way. In my mind I had this fantastic image of Harley actually riding a bomb, like the pinup girls on the side of WWII planes. Imagine that! So for me, the final product doesn’t quite live up to my expectations. She’s nice, but not as nice as Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy: there’s a spark with the other 3 that seems to be missing here, which is sad because I adore Harley. I mean, we already have the rest of the gang (kind of): <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/plastikitty-review-kotobukiyas-dc-bishoujo-black-uniform-batgirl" target="_blank">Babs as Batgirl</a> (though I’d really really love an Oracle hint hint) and <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/plastikitty-review-kotobukiyas-17-dc-bishoujo-huntress" target="_blank">Huntress</a>! It’s been a while since the initial reveal and now we’re getting a look at the finished art: does this mean the sculpt is somewhere in our future? Perhaps at SDCC?</p> <p>As a big Shunya fan, I of course love the art. Then again, Dinah is one of the most ass-kicking ladies in the DC universe so a more battle-ready pose would have been nice. But perhaps she just finished beating someone up and is reveling in her awesomeness! Well as we <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/toy-fair-2013-kotobukiyas-marvel-now-avengers-110-artfx" target="_blank">found out at Toy Fair</a>, Marvel is joining the fray! At WonderCon they announced that Hulk would be entering the line, and I think it’s safe to bet that the rest of the Avengers will follow.</p> <p>As for DC, we have three announcements! We’re getting some more ladies with Catwoman and Supergirl, and a baddie is joining the lineup with Black Adam. Hooray for more women! First and foremost are the Bishoujos: we have two “new” announcements, though technically neither of them is really new. Psylocke was one of the very first Bishoujos, and has been my least-favorite since her release. She’s just not up to par with the other girls, and now she’s getting redone in the bigger 1/7 scale with her X-Force outfit. Hooray!</p> <p>Then we’re going to be getting a new Wonder Woman in her Armored outfit. No word if this will be a resculpt of the original or a totally new figure, but since Wondy is one of the best in the line I’m excited to see an even more improved version of her!</p> <p>There’s also some assorted news on past announcements. How many, exactly? Well counting recolors and announced figures, a whopping 55! Considering that they only started up in 2009, they’re coming out at an almost unprecedented speed. Probably because there’s just so much ground to cover: we’ve got the original comic girls as well as characters from video games and movie franchises. The possibilities are almost endless!</p> <p>Of course every fan of the line has a long list of characters they’d like to see done up by Shunya, Stephen and I decided to compile a list of our biggest wants, with guest appearances from our Bishoujo-addicted staff members Chris and Mir! Their photoshoots have been getting <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/today-on-the-internet-nendoroid-teddies-surprise" target="_blank">more</a> and <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/today-on-the-internet-the-mysterious-capsule-machine" target="_blank">more</a> ridiculous as time goes on, but this one might take the cake. They decided to review the new Revoltech Batmobile from the Nolan franchise with a little help from… Link. Yes, from Zelda. Clearly a natural choice for the job.</p> <p>As ridiculous as the premise is, it makes for some awesome photos. We’ve already seen what <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/toy-fair-2013-kotobukiyas-man-of-steel-artfx" target="_blank">Kotobukiya</a> and <a href="www.plastikitty.com/home/toy-fair-2013-square-enixs-man-of-steel-play-arts-kai" target="_blank">Square-Enix</a> have in store for the movie, but they were far from the only ones with their paws in the Superman pot! DC Collectibles is also making a few statues of their own.</p> <p>There is, of course, the eponymous Man of Steel himself, who will be retailing for $79.95 with a Spring 2013 release date. Then we have bigger statues of Superman, Jor El, Zod and Faora which will be a bit more at $129.95. ![<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-39819 slb_group[39778] slb slb_internal" href="http://www.plastikitty.com/?attachment_id=39819"></a></p> <p>Back at NYCC, we got to take a look at DC Collectibles’ <a href="http://www.plastikitty.com/home/nycc-2012-dc-collectibles-bombshells-line" target="_blank">spectacular new Bombshell figure line</a>, which features DC characters in classic pinup poses. They had one new girl on display at Toy Fair, the always-lovely Poison Ivy! She’s got a pretty standard pinup girl outfit on, except for the fact that her clothing all seems to be made of plants. I don’t know if I like her quite as much as Supergirl (my current favorite in the line) but she definitely has a lot of charm!</p> <p>We also have info on the next release they will be working on, Harley Quinn. We don’t have definitive art yet, but we do know that she’ll be riding a bomb. Their Bane, which was unpainted then, is now painted–though his texture looks a little sandpaper-y. We’ve also got Bats himself, Catwoman Anne Hathaway style, and the ubiquitous Joker. It’s odd how much the quality varies: Catwoman looks a little… lumpy, while the Joker is perfectly executed and Batman is rather in-between.
