At San Diego Comic Con we were able to take an up close look at the sculpt for Sideshow’s new Diablo statue. I was head over heels in love, and waiting patiently for the paint. Well, finally it’s here! To be honest, I think some of the sculpting details are a bit lost with the paint job, though I suppose that’s to be expected unless they shade every single nook and cranny. Which, you know, would be pretty awesome.
Of course anything this huge comes at a steep price: Diablo retails for $350 with a slated June release. However, Sideshow is a master of delays–our Rinzler figure from them was over half a year late. You can pre-order this 21 inch tall statue (that’s right, nearly two feet!) on Sideshow’s site, and yes, we are going to get one. How can you resist?!

Well, here it is! This is the version of Diablo from <em>Diablo III</em> and the sculpting here is pretty ridiculous, with seemingly ever milimeter worked on in some way. However, those of you with sharp eyes (or honestly, eyes at all) probably noticed something else in that post: an image of Tychus from <em>Starcraft 2</em>! This giant, nearly 20″ tall statue is, believe it or not, fully poseable. And Diablo is nearly two feet! Well, at San Diego Comic Con we’ve just gotten a peek at the full, unpainted sculpt of Diablo himself! This beast is 1/6 scale and looks absolutely massive, judging by the people in the background. The sculpt is amazing looking so far, and while I’m not really keen on Sideshow’s faces that certainly won’t be an issue with Diablo here! Of course we knew from the start that there would be an inevitable flood of merchandise, but I was expecting more along the lines of cheapie NECA action figures. It seems, though, that we’ll be getting some high-end pieces as well, courtesy of Sideshow! The first piece has been announced, and to no one’s surprise it’s Diablo. I’m hoping for a 1/4 scale version. Yeah, 1/4… just picture that glorious beast.
