And then, last night, the straw that broke the camel’s back: the TeamUKYO Racing Miku figma (which I have been lusting after for a while) which was revealed to have a shocking ¥8,500 pricetag. Plastikitty Asks: How Much Is Too Much For A Figure?

Today we here at Plastikitty would love to have another discussion with you folks, hot on the heels of our Figure Pricing post. This is, in essence, a follow-up to that, and the question is simple: how much is too much for a figure, for you personally?

I used to be of a “as long as I really want it, no price is too high” kind of girl, but as I cut back on ordering and prices skyrocketed I realized that was just no longer true. My first wake-up call was Alter’s ¥24,800 Ranko. Even with discounts, that is around $200 (and you know her shipping is going to be insane). For a 1/7 scale figure. For a figma!! That’s too rich for my blood, no matter how much I want her.

So, Plastikitties, what number is your personal “not today, Satan” limit? Does it change based on the type of figure, or how much you like the character? Let us know in the comments!

Today I’d like to have a little chat with you about a topic that has been on my mind a lot recently: figure pricing. I’m sure for the majority of us, this is the deciding factor in what figures we order and how many we order. Yes, even more so than characters, style, and how good a figure looks. I mean, it doesn’t matter how lovely a figure is if you can’t afford it, right? But recently figure prices have been on the rise, so hit the jump and let’s get this convo started!

    Let’s Talk About Figure Pricing

Which is totally insane, even given the size and detail. Of course a lot of people will go for him regardless. Personally, we are on the fence: it’s a gorgeous figure, but is he $200 after discounts + insane shipping fees worth of gorgeous?

This got me thinking: are there any figures I would be willing to spend that much on? Maybe PVC releases of some truly amazing garage kits, or re-releases of ones I’ve been drooling over (wedding Azusa, yes please!). So, Plastikitties, what do you think? What is the absolute maximum you’d be willing to spend on a figure, and how special would it have to be to get you to drop that much dough?
