  • One of my favorite things about Wonder Festival is the garage kits. I mean, on one hand I can’t actually own any of them and that’s kind of sad. But on the other hand, I can’t own any of them so yay not spending money! This year we have a really great mix to share with you. There’s everything from creative to sexy to cute–a lot of cute! Cute Dark Souls, cute Sonico, cute Kill la Kill, cute Polar Bear Cafe. We also have some US shows creeping in (yes, that is Finn & Jake!), a LOT of Kantai Collection (especially the bad girls–and the good girls in swimsuits?), Miku of course, a surprising amount of Persona merch including an amazingly perfect cat Aegis, and so much more. Check it all out in the gallery: and like always, all kits are named with both the circle & character name to help you find it if you’re going to the show! • It’s rare that I end up falling for a figure that I originally disliked, but that’s what happened with Max Factory’s Sorceress. I went from “no definitely do not want” to “suddenly, I am in love!” once I saw her in person. She’ just… divine. Perfect. Okay, maybe not perfect, because I still don’t like the bust. But everything else? Yes! We thankfully got to take a very close look at her at NYCC. There is just so much detail on this piece: from the insane layering of both sculpt & color on her hair to the amazing skeleton base, she’s got something to focus on from head to toe.

  • Have you ever waffled on a figure? One second you love it, the next you’re all, “oh but that price!” I’ve been up and down on Max Factory’s Sorceress basically since the sculpt. I mean, I’ve been openly hostile about the Dragon’s Crown designs for the most part, but something about this one is just… magical. And those colored pictures? Hnng. After seeing her in person, I am 95% on board. The sculpt is amazing, absolutely flawless. The colors are rich, the pose is perfection. That other 5%? I don’t know if I am willing to shell out $175 for her! And I still think the bust sculpt is over the top (though better than her other figures for sure). So do I bite the bullet, or live with regret?

  • I have been less than enthusiastic about the glut of Dragon’s Crown figures that we’ve been getting. Mostly because I love the aesthetic and basic designs, but am totally thrown by the bizarre body proportions. Except for MegaHouse’s Elf, which had its own set of problems (aka an incredibly terrible base). But man, I am really tempted by Max Factory’s Sorceress. First off, I adore witch figures and the hat is calling to me. I love the pose, the color palette, her face, her hair, the outfit… everything but the boobs. Which are just strange?? They look literally nothing like real-life boobs. They don’t even look fake. They’re just… kind of tubular? And have no nipples? Also floating. All things I hate. Ah, what a tough decision! But orders are opening soon, so I guess I’ve got to make up my mind. [via the figma blog]

  • X-Plus only had three painted figures at Wonder Festival, but… they were at Wonder Festival, so they get a post! The first and foremost (in both importance and size) is the huge Amazon from Dragon’s Crown. While I still think her proportions are laughable, honestly this looks better than some of the others! Then we have Fairy Tail’s Lucy Heartfilia in a massive 1/4 scale. It’s a swimsuit figure and we have quite a few of her already, so unless you want a giant version of her there’s not much here. Last if Frieza–or Freezer, tehe, in Japanese. [via moeyo]

  • I was really tempted to make the entire body of this post WHAT THE HELL, ORCHID SEED? You used to be my favorite! You were the chosen one! But the amount of figures they brought to WonFest is literally laugable. There’s TWO pieces of news: their Push!! Cover Girl (aka the one freaking piece of art in their backlog no one cares about) is painted, and they have a new Arshes which looks nowhere near as good as the original. [EDIT: it’s Shiin-Hari, not Arshes] Sorceress is here (with no updates) and also some of their much older figures. But no actual news, no progress, not even new art. I’m about ready to give up on them because I don’t think I will ever get my library girl. [via Akibahobby]

  • There have been a lot of figures of Dragon Crown’s Sorceress lately, and I do mean a lot. MegaHouse, A+, AlphaMax, Orchid Seed. But apparently that’s not enough! Because Max Factory is hopping on the bandwagon as well. While I don’t like the Sorceress’ design, I think this pose is tons better than any of the previous ones. It’s more playful and dynamic, that’s for sure! [via GSC]

  • There have been a lot of figures of Sorceress from Dragon’s Crown, and I’ve kind of hated all of them. In fact, I was pretty certain I’d never but a figure of her… but my mind has changed, and from A+ of all companies! I mean, the concept art is nice and there’s much less focus on her boobs than the other renditions, but it’s the face that is selling me: so lovely! Let’s hope it holds up painted. They also showed off the concept art outline for their Amazon! Isn’t it strange that most companies are doing both Sorceress and Amazon, but a third main girl hasn’t really been decided: we’ve got an Elf and Tiki, but not much overlap so far. [via moeyo]

  • If you are a Dragon’s Crown fan, there are quite a few options for you in the figure world. Heck, even a male one! But by far the Sorceress has been the most popular, for… obvious reasons. I’m talking about her boobs, in case you didn’t get that. And if you want a figure of her but aren’t pleased with the AlphaMax, MegaHouse or Orchid Seed versions? Well, there’s at least one more on the way. This one will be from A+, so don’t get your hopes up too high: they don’t exactly have a stellar track record. And she’ll be polyresin, meaning a super high pricetag. [via A+’s Blog]

  • Orchid Seed, the company that moves at the pace of a glacier, actually had some new updates this Wonder Festival! One thing they didn’t have? A ton of new art announcements. To me this is very, very good news because it means they might actually be focusing on, you know, the 20+ pieces they’ve announced that are still in the art/sculpting stage. Anyway, to the news! Their bunnygirl Yumiko Sakaki from Grisaia no Kajitsu -LE FRUIT DE LA GRISAIA- was the new sculpt at this event, and their most recent Mogudan sculpt (which is titled, I kid you not, Sailor Sapphire Succubus) is painted. We’ve also got the sculpt for the alternate Leviathan, and the art (that I HATE) for alternate Mammon was displayed pretty prominently. Also displayed was the art for bikini Soniko #2, meaning they should start on her soon! They also had the sculpts out for Sorceress, Yuuko Sagiri, and Aki Nijou. [via Orchid Seed’s Twitter]
