Elf Archive

  • While I’ve been a less-than-enthusiastic supporter of Dragon’s Crown in the figure world, two have won me over so far. First Vertex’s Tiki, and then MegaHouse when they showed off their painted version of Elf. I really thought my issues with the anatomy would prevent me from even thinking about buying her, but she is SO gorgeous! The hair shading is unreal. She popped up with Amazon at MegaHobby, and now we get to take a closer look at both of them! The more I look at Elf, the more I love her. I mean there’s a chipmunk IN HER HOOD. I didn’t even notice that before! We also get to take a, ahem, perhaps too close look at Amazon, who is still a lumpy monstrosity in my eyes. I’m just… scared. What is happening. It’s like She-Hulk ON STEROIDS. Last but not least there’s the full art for Sorceress, who is carrying a frog, so I do have some hope left. [via Digitamin]

  • Okay guys, you’ve won: I like a Dragon’s Crown figure besides Tiki. Elf, even with her totally derpy spine, is a winner for sure. She’s friggin goooorgeous. The hair, the colors, everything is just amazing. I kind of don’t even believe this is MegaHouse, whose quality has fallen quite a bit lately. She seriously looks like an Alter girl! Amazon… well, um… yeah. Those are some muscles right there. Yes sirree. I wonder what Sorceress will turn out like? [via Takeix’s Img.ly]

  • What is up with magazine scans recently? Last month they were just awfully uploaded, and this time around they are so late the exclusives revealed are already up for order. Also… they’re pretty awful. There’s barely anything here worth checking out. Are you sold on this post yet?! Well, there are some goodies–MegaHouse’s Elf and Amazon from Dragon’s Crown are painted, and they announced a Sorceress! Their Morgiana is painted as well. There’s also a brand new Range Murata figure from Alter! Of course there’s more. A giant Siggy from Queen’s Blade, a less giant (but no less tacky) Tomoe, Penguin Parade’s awkward version of Senhime from Hyakka Ryouran, and New Line’s surprisingly nice Naoe. MegaHouse is now pumping out yet another version of their Miki, this time with… a cowboy hat! Also there are Nendoroids we’ve already seen. Hooray! [note: we’re currently having issues with links, images are from 2chan]

  • Every year, MegaHouse is without a doubt the most disappointing company at Wonder Festival. They’re one of the biggest PVC producers, yet year after year they bring nothing new. You know what new figures they had this year? Umi Kousaka from IDOLM@STER Million Live!, which we’re not allowed to show you. LITERALLY THAT IS IT. Oh, and announcements for Melda Dietz and Juuzo Okita from Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199. Wow. Of course they had lots of figures we’ve already seen from Dragon’s Crown, One Piece, Devil Summoner and more that you can check out in the gallery! Meanwhile I’ll just sit over here and sulk. *grumble grumble* [via Akibahobby]

  • Whoo, scans. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but the week leading up to Wonder Festival always has me dreading scans. It means extra features (garage kit roundup and wishlist) on top of, well, the event coverage and we have three reviews to work on this week! So when I remembered scans were tonight I nearly cried. For real, ask Stephen. So, let’s just dive right in. Wow, such figures! So PVC! Wowwwww! Maybe I’ll just do every post in Shibe…

  • We’ve already seen some of the goodies Max Factory had on display like their Cardcaptor Sakura, 7th Dragon Miku and Sheryl Nome. But there was more! A lot more, in fact. Their gorgeous Dark Elf from Lineage is painted… in 2 colorways, for some reason. Blue skin and brown! I prefer the blue, but both are nice. Then we have a new addition to the Lineage line, Kamael. Ugh, love the wings! There’s also the last se.kirara girl, Mana Miyuki. So glad they are finally wrapping up the line! Nyaruko will be getting a risque apron version, and Momo will be decked out in (almost) wedding gear. The crazy Kuroyukihime is painted (and stunning) and last but not least we’ve got a Fire Emblem figure of Sallya! [via GSC]

  • Many years ago, Good Smile Company made a figure of the Dark Elf class from Lineage II. Well, it seems like they’re hard at work again, with Max Factory working on a stunning female Elf of their own! Orchid Seed actually had their own Elf (review), though personally I like the sculpting here better: she’s just so lovely and menacing. [UPDATE] There’s a second Elf that we just got word of her, check them both out in the gallery! [via Figure/GK]

  • Orchid Seed is known mainly for their NSFW and ecchi figure offerings, but every once in a while they produce a totally SFW figure. Their Lineage II line is perhaps the best example of this, though it’s rather small–3 announced figures, and 2 released ones with a combined total of 5 colorways. While I have both colorways of the adorable Dwarf, I missed out on the original and grey versions of Elf. But Orchid Seed is well-known for doing 3 separate colorways, so it was no surprise when they announced a pink-hued version of Elf. Technically it’s the “second edition” because of some sculpting/castoff improvements and the new weapons, but it’s really just the third colorway of this figure. And it follows their rather strict pattern: first edition is a general release, second is a very limited exclusive, and third is also a general release… but it’s also the best colorway! It’s happened with Al Azif, Elf, and more recently Soniko. I was happy to finally get my hands on this elegant figure, though there were some issues with the first edition that I was hoping would be resolved.

  • Once again we’re quite behind with our loot post, but that seems to be a regular thing around here! June’s loot was posted 2 months late, in August, so it seems fitting to have July’s in September. Plus we don’t even have 2/3rds of the August order in! The main reason for the delay on this was trying to get all of the SDCC loot together, which came to us in odd ways. Some, mostly resin pieces, we took on the plane back with us, but several were shipped and took a while to arrive. But the SDCC loot is going to have to be saved for another post, as one of the pieces has mysteriously gone missing! Stephen and I are currently in the process of moving and packing up the collection, so things are a bit hectic. Heck, we’ve received 2 different shipments of August goods that haven’t even been unboxed! Poor little figures, trapped in plastic. But for now, let’s look at the loot that has made it onto shelves (for the most part), because July was a great month for figures!
