I remember being absolutely shocked when Chara-Ani unveiled their sculpt of Kohane Koishikawa, the gorgeous angel based on a Oyari Ashito illustration. I mean, Chara-Ani is a middle of the road to terrible company, depending on the release, and Kohane’s sculpt was just angelic perfection. So detailed, so true to Oyari’s style, so freaking beautiful! But I didn’t get my hopes up, because this is Chara-Ani we’re talking about.
Surprisingly, the paint looks… really good?! Soft, delicate, nicely shaded and detailed. This is definitely a higher quality product than what they usually produce, though sadly she’s not as perfect as I had hoped: the seam line on the side of her head is quite evident, and the pole-base is just distractingly weird. Why isn’t it clear? But I am such a sucker for wings, I’ll probably take my chances and order her. Plus, she’s 1/6, which is one of my favorite sizes!

When Good Smile Company announced DRAMAtical Murder Nendoroids, I wanted Clear the most: way more than Noiz or even Aoba. I mean, a Nendo sized gas mask is just such a twistedly adorable thing to imagine. But for a while, it seemed like they dropped the line entirely.
But Orange Rouge is here to save the day! Between pumping out endless amounts of Touken Ranbu figures, they’re also expanding some of GSC’s older figure collections. And today, it’s DRAMAtical Murder! Because we are finally getting a Clear Nendoroid. Oh, happy day! I wonder if he’ll come with a bonus unmasked face?

Chara-Ani/Toy’s Works used to make a lot of passable but not fantastic figures, and popped them out pretty rapidly. It seems that they are finally changing their approach, as we can see in the relatively small offerings they had out for Wonder Festival: they are at least going to try to go for quality over quantity.
There was, of course, Oyari Ashito’s angel girl on display, along with baker Sonico and Mikoto Kiba from Triage X. The most surprising thing is that they’ll be doing Free! figures of Sousuke Yamazaki and Rin Matsuoka! It also seems like that cute Rias is going to be Chara-Ani, not Embrace Japan.

When I saw this sculpt and the corresponding manufacturer I actually said “no, that can’t be right.” I mean, don’t get me wrong, Chara-Ani has made some decent figures. Usually the fanservice-y swimsuit girls are okay quality. But in terms of amazing, “I want to display this in the center of the room so everyone in the world can see it” figures? Yeah, not so much. So where the heck did this come from?
It’s a figure of Kohane Koishikawa from the poorly-named Period, illustrated by (of course) Oyari Ashito. And it looks so good?? Like really good? The detail on her wings alone is better than anything I’ve ever seen them do. I mean, we have to wait for paint… but I am already so in love. Her hair is gonna be pink, guys. PINK.

You would think by now that Orchid Seed’s incredibly slow pace wouldn’t surprise me, but I still find myself a bit shocked when a figure announced 3 years ago finally gets painted. I mean… that is a hell of a wait. Today we’re getting an update on Aoi Ayanokouji from Makai Tenshi Djibril 4, a series we haven’t seen figures from in a VERY long time.
While Aoi is kind of a generic-looking character (I mean, it’s practically NSFW Mio in a bunny suit), the sculpt shows Orchid’s typical attention to body posture and anatomy. However, I think this suffers from age: though she was only announced 3 years ago (“only”), the hair sculpt is already pretty bland and she’s far less interesting than some of their other concepts. Orders open tonight!

I think Orca Toys is planning on making all of the ToHeart 2 girls in both kitty and bunny outfits. Or at least Tamaki, Sasara, and Manaka–who according to figure manufacturers are pretty much the only girls who exist in the series. And I have to admit, their Tamakis have been great. The other girls? Yeah, not so much. I’ve been disappointed so far, especially in Bunny Manaka, but they’ve definitely picked up the quality for this one!
This is actually their second cat version of Manaka, though the first was kind of a…. cat santa? But it was terrible. Like, really bad. So we don’t talk about it. If anyone asks, this is the first cat Manaka. Because it doesn’t suck.

If you asked me yesterday the chance of Native ever making a male figure, I would have said… maybe 0.01%. Seriously. I mean, they make NSFW figures (almost) exclusively, and those are always girls. ALWAYS. But no longer! Native is going against the grain in a big way and making a figure of DRAMAtical Murder’s Aoba. Which is probably the guy I’d pick if I knew a guy was getting a ecchi figure: I mean 1) their parent company made that amazing figure of him and 2) it’s hard to think of a bigger BL game than DM at the moment. While I’m not sure if this is a figure I’ll be interested in personally, I am THRILLED to see this kind of development in the figure community! Any guesses on what art they’ll work from?

Remember those AlphaMax teasers? Well, as we all suspected, it was everything at their booth. So this post is basically all of that… but from the front! Crazy thrilling, I know. I will admit that we didn’t get an appearance by Tony’s swan girls, but the jeans one is more than enough for me. Ah, it’s a Tony Taka bonanza up in here!

[Editor’s note: linked images are all NSFW!]
Teasers have been a bit wacky this year, so is it any surprise that AlphaMax just unveiled literally every figure at their booth? Not really. 2015 is bizarre. Anyway, there’s a lot of stuff here so let’s just jump right into it! A few of their older figures have updates: Marie Mamiya is sculpted, as is their Saito Masatsugu figure which you can see fully revealed here. Himekawa Hayuru is here too of course, and one of my favorite Tony Taka illustrations is sculpted! And Angela Balzac is there too… painted. That was fast.
And now to the new–which there is a LOT of. We’ll start with the only fully safe for work figure. They’re making Saber Extra in her red dress! She’s the one in the umbrella. then we have two new Tony figures from Fault!: second versions of Ai Saeki and Maya Kamiwazumi. We also have two new art announcements from Misaki Kurehito and Kizuki Aruchu.
