I have been waiting a long time for this figure. I do not really have a “statement piece” Saber Zero yet: I passed on Good Smile’s version, and Max Factory’s doesn’t exactly have a pow factor. So when Aniplex showed off the art for their new Saber figure, I had a lot of hope–and she looked great at Wonder Festival, too!
I probably shouldn’t have gotten my hopes so high, because the paint is the worst. Okay, that is a total exaggeration. Her shirt looks quite nice, but her face is flat and lifeless. I was really hoping for a paintjob similar to the swimsuit Saber Alter from, well, Alter but alas. At least her price, at ¥8,800 for a 1/6 scale figure, is not that bad: but she is exclusive to Aniplex’s web store. Let’s hope she pops up in GSC’s for international orders!

Remember when we thought we weren’t getting any scans this month? Turns out Japan was just messing with us and decided to make them the latest scans in the history of… how long I’ve been writing up magazine scans! I mean, it’s not even February in Japan anymore.
Since Wonder Festival just happened there is not a lot of new here, though there are some already announced figures with updates. AlphaMax’s Kotone is painted, along with [edit: Kaitendoh’s] Mataemon Araki. Embrace Japan is showing off their new original character from Wonder Festival, Black Hood Benoa, and we are getting a closer look at three MegaHouse sculpts: Space Dandy, Honey, and Kakashi.
Speaking of MegaHouse, their painted Sorceress is also making an appearance: out of the three sculpts we have seen so far, I find this the most inoffensive. Alphamax’s was just a tragedy, and the magical missing nipples from Orchid Seed’s are just too funny to be remotely sexy. Aniplex’s Saber Zero is painted (finally!), and there are previews of figma Akagi and Nendoroid Shinobu. Check out all that and more after the jump!

We have already seen a lot from Good Smile Company this Toy Fair: Kill la Kill figures, Nintendo, Berserk, and Attack on Titan, along with in-depth galleries of the Titan statue, Tiki, the Motoko & Zombie figmas, Ryuuko, and… a car? But they had a huge booth this year jam-packed with goodies, so we have a lot more to show you!
Many of their Sword Art Online figures were on display, including the new GSC Asuna, who is totally gorgeous! I passed on her pre-orders but seeing the figure in person has me re-considering this. Some Wonder Festival announcements were there, like the Pyramid Head and Bubble Head Nurse figmas, Lucy & Natsu from the Fairy Tail line, and Ninja Storm figmas. Then there was a lovely display of some of their older figures, like the Black Rock Shooter animation line and the amazing Love Is War Miku Hatsune. Check them all out in the gallery!

Aniplex has really been ramping up their figure department (or rather… figure collaboration. Do you really think they’re making these themselves? Haha, no.) They had a bunch of Madoka goodies at WonFest, including Maiko Homura and the gorgeous sculpt of her they teased that is TO DIE FOR. If that’s not enough, we’re getting goth angel Homura, the full art of which you can see in the gallery.
Finally, their Saber Zero is painted & sculpted… and HUGE. I need all of these figures my wallet is sobbing.

Way back in the Spring of this year Penguin Parade released their first Petanko Mini! set: the gals from Puella Magi: Madoka Magica and now, they’re bringing the same treatment to the cast of Fate/Zero. The whole cast is here from Saber to Rin to Lancer and Archer and they all look adorable in their little sitting poses. There’ll be 10 designs in all and you can get a set now for pre-order for ¥6,800 and they’ll head to your door to sit cutely in your home in May of next year.

Oh Saber, I’ll never be able to quit you. Just when I’ve said to myself “that’s it, no more Saber figures! No matter what!” Companies whip out something like Pajama Saber or, in this instance, a figure based on some of my very favorite Saber art (technically Saber Zero). I’ve wanted something based on this for a long time, and we did get a kind of terrible trading figure from Kaiyodo but we all know that doesn’t count.
Sadly this is the worst possible news ever because she’s being made by Aniplex. I don’t for a second believe they are manufacturing their own figures: based on the glimpses of her sculpt, which you can see in the gallery, I assume they are using GSC’s factory. But this means that, like Maiko Madoka, she will most likely be an exclusive. And not the kind you can use a proxy for, the “you can never own this unless you sell a kidney” kind. DAMN YOU ANIPLEX. And she’s even my favorite scale, 1/6. You’re breaking my heart, Aniplex.

Since Sega just showed off all their new prizes at Wonder Festival, this season’s Prize Fair was a little more subdued than usual. In fact, we pretty much only had 2 companies representing the prize figure world: Taito and Banpresto. Taito didn’t have any new information, but we do have the sculpts for their new Persona 4 Area figures! Elizabeth in particular is looking pretty awesome.
To make up for the lack of content, Banpresto brought way more stuff than usual! We’ve got the franchises we always see, like Fate/Zero, One Piece, Precure and Macross, but they had lots of other goodies too. The ones that catch my eye are the dearth of Pokemon figures: everything from plushes (including the new Eevelution, that was fast) to the awesome Eevee in the header to N himself! Oh, and they are also working on a fantastic looking SQ prize for Soniko, making up for the crazy expensive Ichiban Kuji one!

December was (obviously) the last month of 2012, and boy was it a doozy. Even with the massive amount of delays that came late in the year it was just totally jam-packed with releases. In fact, this might actually be our biggest month of orders… ever. Well, maybe excluding July of 2010, where we had an entire wall of loot from SDCC. But in terms of imports, yeah, it’s a bit overwhelming! So hit the jump to check out all the goodies.

While most companies keep their sales numbers under wraps, Good Smile Company has never been shy about flaunting these as well as which of their figures sell best. At the end of the year they release a handy list of their top 30 best-selling figures: not just from Good Smile, but from their sister companies as well! Of course it’s usually just GSC and Max Factory that crack the top 30. Hit the jump to check out who made it and some of the surprising exclusions!
