Okay, guys. Act surprised. Are you ready for this super shocking totally unexpected announcement? Max Factory is making a figma… of Miku… in her winter outfit! I know right. Truly, an unprecedented and out of left field turn of events. Not like we’ve been waiting ages for this or anything.
Apparently this (inevitable) turn of events took so long because they wanted to use the Miku figma 2.0 body. I know most people are “Miku’d Out” but I think she’s pretty friggin adorable! They chose her original design, and she comes with all sorts of goodies like an embarrassed face, a snowman, and… a microphone for the snowman (?). As you’d expect she’s an exclusive: she’ll be available via raffle (as in, you enter to buy her, not to win her!) at Sapporo Snow Miku Event, but will be available at Winter Wonder Festival as well (including, of course, an online release). Anyone want to take bets on how long it’ll be until we see figmas of 2012, 2013 and 2014 versions? We’ve already got a pretty heavy hint that a Sakura Miku figma is in the works….

It’s been a while since we had a Nico Nico broadcast from Good Smile Company & co with anything worth writing up, mainly since they seem to be doing all their new announcements at random events, on Kahotan’s blog, or on Twitter. But there are quite a few goodies today–nothing brand new, but a whole lot of updates! Only one thing on the scaled figure front, so we’ll get that out of the way first: Racing Miku 2013 is painted, and I’m liking her a lot more now! It’s the little crown. So cute!
Then there’s a whole lot of Nendoroid news. Saber Bride is painted and… well, she was before, but here she is again! We get to see some of Winter Clothing Version Isabelle, who comes with awesome effect parts. Then there’s Akari Taiyou and her alternate hair (which might as well be its own figure) from Genei o Kakeru Taiyou, along with the adorable Akagi from Kantai Collection. The table, I need it! Oh, and figma Miho Nishizumi and Yukari Akiyama are here too *yawn*

Usually with a series or game (or manga or eroge or… whatever…), we get a deluge of figures of the female characters and then one of a male character if we’re very, very good and eat all our veggies and clean the living room. But so far, Berserk has been the exact opposite. We got one figma of Griffith, and not one, not two, but THREE of Guts. Cause… we need that many?
So when we found out we’d be getting a figma of Casca, it was kind of a surprise! I mean, a girl Berserk figma. Shocking! But it’s always nice to have less sexed-up girl figmas, and Casca has pretty serious battle armor for a girl. I mean, aside from the whole “boob indents will kill you” thing. But hey, we can’t expect guys to get it all right.

The Attack On Titan figmas just keep on coming! First Mikasa, then Eren and Levi, and now… Armin! Who, as Stephen (who actually you know, watches the show, tells me is the least popular of the main characters) is getting the tiny poseable treatment. Honestly at this point they’re kind of all blurring together for me because of the similar outfits. I can only take so much tan, red, and army green.
However, Armin comes with a twist! Rumor has it that he will be a Winter Wonder Festival exclusive. But, you know, you can buy them for retail from overseas so it’s not really a big deal. Though it is weird they’d be announcing exclusives for an event four months off, right?

Clearly two scaled figures from Alter is not enough. No, the PVC world needs more almost naked dudes. More I tell you! And what better way to present these dashing gentlemen than in… tiny action figure form. Erm… Max Factory…
Do you see the issue that’s gonna crop up here? The hips. Think of the poor hips. Joints, all out everywhere. I mean figmas in plugsuits are bad enough, now we’ve got a battalion of slimmed-down Billy Herringtons waiting in the wings. We don’t even have a listed character, so I’m just gonna assume we’re getting several. Several speedo figmas. Just what we all needed… right?

I find figures of real people a bit… creepy. There’s usually some uncanny valley stuff going on in the face usually, unless it’s priced insanely high–larger scale statues and Hot Toys seem to do it right, but on smaller scales it can be downright terrifying. Point in case: some of the Revoltechs.
So when Max Factory announced an Indiana Jones figma, I was already cringing. We’re getting promotional shots now and, well… I’m only cringing harder. The face is just so WEIRD. It’s like… if you melted a wax figure of Harrison Ford. At least he comes with his whip and other accessories? Oh, and he’s ¥4,800 with an April release. This is getting a big, fat pass from me, but do any of you Plastikitties want to add him to your collection?

In a completely unsurprising and predictable turn of events, Good Smile Company has already snatched up the license for Madoka Magica’s third movie, Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica: Hangyaku no Monogatari (Rebellion Story), and are all set to produce some figures of the new magical girl, Nagisa Momoe.
I’m a bit tired of Madoka merchandise, but that’s mainly because we keep just seeing the main 5 girls over and over again. Nagisa is not only new but painfully cute, so I’m actually excited for the flood of merchandise! She has a painted Nendoroid and a sculpted figma right now, which you can check out in the gallery, and I’m sure a scaled figure isn’t far behind.

It’s been a long time since we had a messy batch of scans. In fact I’d almost forgotten what it was like to get terrible cellphone shots with half the page bent inward instead of the usual neat, flat scans–which of course means it’s the perfect time for it to happen again! Seriously, these scans suck. Also there are like… no good figures in them. We’ve got Kotobukiya’s Leafa, who we’ve seen, Belphegor who is another sculpt we’ve seen…, and AlphaMax’s Viola. That’s pretty much it for the excitement quota.
But of course there are other figures! FREEing has their Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! line painted, and Amakuni’s Aisha is getting a repaint. There are tons of Yamato ladies from MegaHouse and they’ve added Takane as their next IDOLM@STER girl, and there’s the Charles D’Artagnan from Queen’s Gate who is so horribly tacky I want to cry. MegaHouse also showed off their Amy, and we’ve got figma Chihaya and two new Ultraseven/Ultraman figures from Plex: Metron Seijin and Zetton.
We’ve also got some pretty big news from Griffon: they’ll be working on a large chunk of the cast from Rozen Maiden! Shinku, Hina Ichigo, Suigintou, Kanaria, Suiseseki, Souseiseki, and Kirakishou will ALL be getting figures. I feel like they’ve found something to replace the Touhou line…

Just a few days ago we saw the prototypes of many of Good Smile Company & co’s Attack on Titan figures, including the figma for Eren Jaeger. It turns out that it was more than a coincidence that they’d brought a not-up-for-order item with them, because orders are opening soon… very soon! In fact both Eren’s Nendoroid and figma versions are going up for order tonight!
The figma, like Mikasa’s, comes with a ton of weaponry and fighting accessories which (sadly) will make him cost an arm and a leg. ¥4,800 to be exact, with an April release. On that note, can you believe we’re already on April pre-orders? Time flies! The Nendoroid version should be cheaper, and is a whole lot cuter… though certainly less realistic. Which one do you prefer?

We’ve already shown you a few of the more memorable pieces at Good Smile Company’s booth: Belldandy & Holly Bell, the Attack On Titan goods, 7th Dragon Miku, Bayonetta, and Nyaruko. But of course there are more than just a few figures in a booth as big as Good Smile’s! They had lots of Madoka merchandise as you’d expect, in fact it was almost their whole lineup! Nendoroids and scaled figures a plenty.
In fact there were tons of Nendoroids from a lot of different shows and series as well as figmas and scaled figures. We’ve got Vocaloids, Samus, Dangan Ronpa, and a few of their past exclusives. Check them all out in the gallery!
