  • FREEing: home of the bunny girl, land of the yukata. Guess what they had this year? So so many bunny girls, and two yukata… boys? It’s Shinji and Kaoru! Plus the FREE boys are here, so really they’re kind of boy-crazy. But don’t worry, we have like 50 announcements that are all girls all the time. In 1/4 scale we will be getting: Asmodeus & Lucifer from Seven Deadly Sins, Reimu, Lala & Nana & Haruna, Mea from To LOVEru, Purple Heart & Black Heart, Belldandy (!!), Reika from Gantz, Shiro from No Game No Life (both 1/4 and 1/12 scale because why not), Shimakaze, and Sumire Kanzaki from Sakura Wars. I’m excited to see them in 3 years when they finally get sculpted. [via amiami]

  • Ah, Alter. Every year they get me so good! And it’s always with girls (or boys, from the Altair line) from franchises that I otherwise wouldn’t care about. Am I super obsessed with their Love Live and IM@S girls? Yes. Would I willingly watch either of those shows? No. I just love frilly dresses so very much. This year they have a great lineup. Shiki Ichinose from Cinderella Girls is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in my life, but the Love Live girls are also looking strong with a gorgeous Riko Sakurauchi. We have many, many FREE! boys and some other Altair announcements: Fate/Grand Order dudes! Merlin, Arthur Pendragon, and Edmon Dantes will all be getting scales. If you like the ladies, Alter will be doing Shielder too. They seem to be getting back to Strike Witches, which is nice, and we also have a surprise Chachamaru and Asuna. Check them all out below! • Ahh, Alter. I have almost entirely sworn off buying figures, but when I am tempted it’s Alter at least 50% of the time. Something about them just really gets me in my figure-loving soul. And this event is no exception! While they only had a few goodies on hand, they were all absolutely gorgeous: from their stunning new Gwendolyn to the unbearably adorable Anzu Futaba, Alter still has it going on. Of course there were no big surprises. We have their usual go-to franchises: Fate (this time it’s a casual Lancer), IDOLM@STER, Love Live! (I never stop wanting these girls, sigh), Free!, and Tales of. Plachta from Atelier Sophie was definitely a nice surprise, as I didn’t expect her to turn out so beautifully based on the sculpt. [UPDATE] Added some lovely bonus pictures from Hobby Maniax [via Dengeki & AmiAmi]

  • We are about a week away from the two big winter events, Toy Fair & Winter Wonder Festival. But before then, a little taste of that event-reveal excitement! Yes, it’s time for ~yet another prize fair.~ I do love prize figures, but I had to cut myself off because man do those boxes add up into a wall really quickly. This time around, we have of course all the usuals: Dragon Ball Z (I need that Piccolo), Fate/Stay Night, IDOLM@STER, Sword Art Online, Bakemonogatari, Evangelion, Disney, Kantai Collection, et cetera. Everything from cute to creepy (can we stop with the big-head Disney Princesses now?). There are some newcomers on the scene too, like Touhou Project and BLAME! The star for me is that Anzu Futaba in the header: that sculpt does NOT look like a prize figure! [via Dengeki]

  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Usually Alter saves their A-game for MegaHobby. Let’s be honest, their Wonder Festival displays tend to leave one lacking. But not this year, oh no. Apparently they caught on to how much I whine about it and were like ‘HEY CHECK OUT ALL THIS AMAZING SHIT, what now???’ Now, Alter, I spend all of my money on your shit. I mean oh my god. First off, we’re getting a brand-new Gwendolyn! What a surprise. I thought the new Velvet was to go with old Gwen & Mercedes, but I guessed wrong (does this mean we get a new Mercedes too??). Then we have the gayest figure on earth from Free–they’re finally doing dual figures with boys! Speaking of Altair, there are sooo many boys: mostly from Ensemble Stars! and Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ . We’ve got tons of IDOLM@STER and Love Live!, including the Ranko to end all Rankos. The WINGS. Then we have so very many announcements. Three Fate/Grand Order girls: Lancer, Saber Alter, and Jeanne d’Arc. We”ll be getting more IM@S (of course), a new Lala, and a figure of Rem from Re:Zero, who seems quite popular this year. • A new year, a new batch of magazine scans! Sadly with 2016 we aren’t getting any good changes. AKA, it’s still almost all MegaHouse. I miss old scans so bad, guys, but I need to get over it! Just appreciate what we’ve got! Because there’s a lot of nostalgia here. I mean, there’s the usual One Piece figures (including some totally over the top anatomy as per usual), yet another figma Kirito (we totally need that), and Alpha x Omega’s Eri! Then… nostalgia train. We’ve got Digimon, Dragonball Z, and Pokemon. Lots and lots of Pokemon. Ash and Misty are here, of course, with basically no updates. But we’ve got new ones! Cynthia will be joining the line, along with Steven Stone! Talk about characters I never expected to see in figure form. And why is Metagross so freaking tiny? But whatever. More Pokemon. Not gonna complain. [via takezo1101’s Twitter]

  • Animate Girls Festival seems like it’d be an event dedicated to female figures (so, you know, basically every other event). But no, it’s an event… for girls! Who like dude figures. So today we’re bringing you some manly (and less manly) men. Including, most importantly, our header figure: based Alter finally made a dynamic guy! Thank you, figure Jesus, for this figure of Durarara’s Izaya Orihara. The rest of it was basically all the Touken Ranbu. Max Factory/Orange Rouge’s Mikazuki Munechika and Tsurumaru Kuninaga are painted, and we have the sculpt for Kotobukiya’s Hotarumaru is sculpted (and SO adorable). There was a lot of Nendo stuff going on: the announcements for Hotarumaru and Doutanuki Masakuni were out, Ichigo Hitofuri is painted, and Yagen Toushirou is sculpted. Aniplex’s amazing Ciel, Toy’s Works’ Sousuke Yamazaki from Free!, and Nendoroid Clear all showed up too. [via whitenoize & Orange Rouge]

  • Chara-Ani/Toy’s Works used to make a lot of passable but not fantastic figures, and popped them out pretty rapidly. It seems that they are finally changing their approach, as we can see in the relatively small offerings they had out for Wonder Festival: they are at least going to try to go for quality over quantity. There was, of course, Oyari Ashito’s angel girl on display, along with baker Sonico and Mikoto Kiba from Triage X. The most surprising thing is that they’ll be doing Free! figures of Sousuke Yamazaki and Rin Matsuoka! It also seems like that cute Rias is going to be Chara-Ani, not Embrace Japan. [via moeyo]

  • Some companies treat sexy male figures as a joke, but others treat it like a life calling. Alter’s Free line has definitely been pushing the boundaries for what we expect in a male figure, but once I saw the butt on Rin I knew all bets were off and Alter was throwing themselves into the sexy swimming dude genre with full force. Now Rin is painted, and just look at the booty. Look at it. Crazy that we’re seeing something like this on a male figure–and crazier that it’s taken so long for it to finally happen from a mainstream company. I mean, I’d prefer a Larry Fitzgerald-type butt, but any port in a storm right? Rin will go up for order tonight and he’s got other great features like, you know, a fantastic sculpt and an awesome face but let’s be honest we just care about the butt. [via Alter’s Blog]
