  • It seems like every year we get more and more Racing Miku figures. It used to be just the standard GSC scale/figma/Nendoroid, but now there’s Thai Miku and TeamUKYO (biking) Miku and sometimes even two figures of the main design. And it seems 2017 is shaping up to be the most prolific yet: we already know she has a scale from GSC and one from Amakuni based on slightly different art. Now Tony Taka is showing off two new designs! One of them, the TeamUKYO biking Miku, already has a prize figure from Banpresto you can check out in the gallery. Will we be getting a scale of her, or of the beautiful kimono-wearing art gracing GSC’s new cars? Neither has been announced, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed up tonight… [via Tony Taka’s Twitter]

  • There are many things I am a sucker for, but two of the biggest are Racing Miku designs and Tony Taka’s art. So when I saw that the two were finally combined? It was heaven. And while we still don’t have any pictures of the scaled figure, today we get to see both the figma and Nendoroid in action! The Nendo (which is already up for order) looks adorable of course, and I love the clear PVC they’ve used on the wings & frilly skirt. Usually I skip the RM figmas but I think this time I might have to go for it! Also, how cute is the Sonico x Racing Miku art in the gallery? Maybe we’ll get that as a figure too… [via ckom]

  • At the tail end of last year, Good Smile Company unveiled the art for Racing Miku 2017 which is designed by Tony Taka. I find myself ordering less and less every month and in fact it takes a lot for any figure to interest me now, but I am always such a sucker for the Racing Miku line… and this year looks like it will be no exception! Tony Taka, Miku, butterfly wings, soft pastel colors? Yes please. Of course we don’t just get the figure: there’s a figma and Nendoroid too! This might actually be the first time Tony’s art has been on a Nendoroid, since I can’t think of a single other. GSC was never on the Shining World hype train, after all. But oh my god does his style look adorable all chibi and fat! I hope that, unlike Snow Miku, they keep all the detail in her outfit because this could be a really spectacular Nendoroid. • I think we can all agree that 2016 sucked. But the year is almost at an end, which means a fresh start for all of us! And a fresh start for yearly figure lines, too. Usually we have to wait until Wonder Festival for the new Racing Miku, but GSC feels so bad for all of us they’re giving us a little taste of the 2017 design already. While I was quite smitten by 2016’s figure, I am even more excited for 2017’s. Because it’s Tony Taka!! Finally, dreams do come true. And it’s not just any Racing Miku, it’s a FANCY FAIRY RACING MIKU. 2017 can’t come fast enough. [via GSC Racing]

  • When we first saw Racing Miku 2016’s design, I wasn’t the biggest fan. It’s a little busier than the Racing Mikus I love, and I thought the red and blue clashed a little But I quickly changed my tune when we saw the sculpt for Good Smile Company’s figure of her, because it was so enchanting and cute! I’m just smitten with that pose and all of the detailing. She’s finally painted, and I’m even more in love. The coloring is bold and unusual, her face is adorable, and there are SO many details all over. Though some of them are a bit confusing–why is a sentient weight holding a can of Redbull? Truly a figure of many questions. She’s set for a September release and retails for ¥13,800, which is way less than I thought given her base and all the PVC her hair and umbrella need! Pre-Order At: GSC | HLJ | AmiAmi

  • Usually we see the reveal for Racing Miku’s figures around this time of year, so I was a little surprised when she didn’t end up in Good Smile’s booth. But it turns out they were just keeping her tucked away! Or rather, a figure of her–it seems like we’ll still get the standard pose one, and this is kind of a bonus. And what a bonus it is! So different from the other Racing Miku figures–an elaborate base and cute pose, plus that sculpt is to die for. [UPDATE] FREEing’s amazing new Thai Racing Miku was there as well! • While I was pretty excited for the theme of Racing Miku 2016 (flames, oh my!), I was not head over heels for her actual design reveal. It was cute, but I definitely like some of the past Racing Mikus a lot better. However, I am a sucker for the Racing theme in general and unless the figure & Nendoroid were outright terrible, I knew I was going to buy them. Well, orders are open… but it’s still kind of hard to judge, because we have the sculpt and a painted mockup… but no painted pictures. Um. GSC. How am I supposed to make this decision? I mean, the sculpt looks great. But she’s not cheap (packages range from ¥8,000 to ¥70,000) and I do like to, you know, see the figure before I purchase it. Orders are open right now and stay open until May 13th, so you do have quite a while to decide, but the sculpt really is adorable.

  • The tradition of a new yearly Racing Miku design is one of my favorites. Look through some of the past ones and you can see a great variety and creativity: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 all have something to offer. And while we all have our favorites (2014 <3) and least favorites (2013, ehhh), I’m always excited about a new one! Plus now we have all the spinoff Racing Mikus, like Thailand Miku 1 and 2, and EV Mirai. We knew that the theme this year was flames, so how did it turn out? Well, to be honest, I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this design. I do love how colorful it is, and the hair ombre is gorgeous. But I’m not really sold on the face or art style, and the pose is a little bland for my taste. Then again, the final figures are hardly ever in the art pose at this point, so hopefully GSC comes up with something a little more creative! I think this is a design that will look a lot better in 3D with some gorgeous coloring and clear PVC than it does here. [via Kahotan]

  • I am, for the most part, totally over Racing Miku. I say “for the most part” because I am decidedly not over the art they pick for their Thai racing branch, which gave us possibly my favorite Miku ever. Tan fairy Racing Miku. YES. And it even got a figure. This year we’re getting new art for her, and it’s just as friggin adorable. No wings this time, though we do get a crown, ombre twintails, tan skin and a super adorable face! I’m really hoping we get a figure of this too: I definitely prefer these to the more standard yearly Racing Mikus. [via GSC Racing]
